I'm playing to the game the first time myself and I have to say, I did not have the issue with the knife part at all. That room is the first time you ever pick up those knives and if you look at the inventory description, It explains that it can be used as a foothold on certain walls

Can't afford to play? I got a repro disc for $20. Problem solved. It even came with an authentic looking case. The print on the disc looks a bit dusty looking though. You will need a modded PS2 to play it. I went with the soft mod method and used a memory card like device. That way I won't risk bricking my console.

I mean, its a game based on a 45 year old abandoned franchise that never got a real ending to it. Throwing a lot of marketing dollars at it wouldn't have been smart. But it's still a shame

@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 He's talking about the original 1967 manga (called Dororo, which was what this was called in its original Japanese, "Blood Will Tell" was the American release title) that Tezuka never finished. It had a black-and-white anime adaptation in 1968 as part of the famous and incredibly long-running World Masterpiece Theater series of anime that created its own ending since the manga was unfinished. It also had a live action film adaptation in 2007 (where Hyakkimaru and Dororo were both depicted as much older as they were in all the other versions), a 2019 anime (what I assume you're referring to by "the reboot"), and a 2018 manga called The Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru that's still currently running as of this writing in December 2024, and is the only installment of the franchise to not simply be titled "Dororo" (aside from the short-lived 2007 manga Dororo Bon, about a reincarnated and gender-swapped version of Hyakkimaru continuing to hunt the 48 demons in modern day). But even with all that, again, the original source material never received a proper ending, so all the other versions had to make up their own (although the 2018 manga still has yet to end, but I'm assuming it will eventually follow suit and join its brethren one day lol).

@@TheBigBlueBugofJustice I did mention that it got rebooted. The film didn't have an ending either. Dororo was definitely female in that. The reboot implied this too. I never heard of Dororo Bon. There's also a crossover of Dororo by Tezuka Osamu and Dororon Enma-kun by Go Nagai called Dororo to Enma-kun.

I actually heard about this game on some video game channel back before it came out or when it was new and I wanted to play it. It took me over a decade to remember what this damn game was when all I needed to do was look up the plot and it was on the PS2. This game definitely has aged. I was planning on watching the original series but the fact that it lacked color made me not want to watch it.

Both of them are, the original 1968 anime and the 2019 reboot. There's also three manga series: the 1967 original work by the legendary Tezuka Osamu which he unfortunately never finished; a short series (only four volumes, same as the original manga) that ran from 2007 to 2009 called Dororo Bon where Hyakkimaru died before he could kill all 48 demons and gets reincarnated hundreds of years later into modern Japan, but this time as a woman, to continue where her past life left off; and a 2018 series called the Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru that's still currently running as of this writing in December 2024 with 10 volumes and counting. Plus there's a 2007 Japanese live action film adaptation that's pretty good as well. It's a really cool little franchise and it's a shame it's not more well known in the west (though really, ALL of Tezuka's manga deserve way, WAAAAY more love in the west that they get!)

You complain about having no hints you're supposed to use the kunai to climb up the walls, but the item description flat out tells you that's what it's for, and it does come up again afterward at the last level of the game, and in Dororo mode. Otherwise, the review was great and I agree with most of the other issues you brought up, especially that terrible camera in platforming segments.

6:05 That's not poor game design, that's poor game playing. The Kunai clearly state in the menu (as you yourself showed) "Can be used as a FOOTHOLD on some indoor walls." Did you even read the menu? I checked the menu and knew exactly what to do. The ironic thing is, there are barrels in the corner of that room that you can use to get to the higher platforms anyway, so your criticism is totally useless. The game has poor, clunky platforming, yes. But your gripe is just noob impatience.

Just finished streaming this game and I was blown again from how fun it was! I wasn't a fan of the final chapter though. That boss was absolute BS and making Dororo become a sexy female character too. It was pretty...eww. Though it didn't spoil the rest of the game! I've been taking my time to spread word of this game everywhere!

I think I've played more lesser known, not perfect games than the top rated ones. A game doesn't have to be perfect for me to enjoy it. For example for some reason I played through Getaway even though it was frustrating at times. On the other hand I've only played an hour or so of grand theft auto. I prefer Maximo and Sly over Ratchet and Jak. I enjoyed Haven Call of the King and completed that. Shinobi and Nightshade are simple games but are fun games.

I sold my copy for $135 on ebay in 2018 and now it's twice as much! (I remember back when I was collecting in the PS2 era seeing another copy of it at gamestop for like $18 or less and was thinking to myself I should buy a 2nd copy because it's probably going to be worth money.) At it's current price it's only for the collectors out there. And the PS2 is one of the best systems to collect games for.

KZbin collectors who can afford going crazy once in a while. The rest of us get a ROM and install it on a PS2 hard drive or we use PCSX2 emulation. This one along with Rule of Rose have absolutely disgusting prices but thankfully we have alternatives.
