When a full moon arrives and extremely skilled waterbenders are granted an immeasurable boost in power, they’re able to use their darkest, forbidden technique: bloodbending! Despite being used by plenty of characters; Katara, Hama, Yakone, Amon and Tarrlok, I feel like we’ve barely scratched the surface of what Bloodbending can do! And with a new Avatar series and movie on the rise, hopefully aging up alongside the audience, it's time to push the envelope and show us the more lethal uses of this dark art! Here's everything we know about Bloodbending alongside some overlooked bits of lore explained and our thoughts on what we'd like to see from bloodbending in the future!

I think we need to delve a bit more into subtypes for Air bending. Firebending has both Lightning and Combustion Bending as subtypes, Waterbending has Blood and Plant Bending, and Earthbending has Lava and Metal Bending but Airbending has not gotten something like that. Flight felt more like just an incredibly advanced Technique rather than a subtype of Airbending. Now with more Airbenders around, there can be more people to discover such a subskill.

This is what I love the most about sub-elemental bending such as metal, sand, lava, lightning and blood. With a bit of knowledge of chemistry in mind, Blood bending can have horrific potential. Some thoughts I had was extracting all the blood from a person's body through nothing but a paper cut, force physical illnesses unto people such as inflammation with blood clots, utilizing blood thinners to use more blood, manipulate blood in a person's body to make them "undetected" in a janky sort of way(stop blood flow for a split second so the brain doesn't read details correctly, so yeah: jank mind control lol), and essentially make them Avatar's version of vampires. The internal organ crushing is just the beginning, but yeah the peak is the studio's mind of what they can get away with.

Bloodbending is genuinely one of the most horrifying things ever on a concpetual level. Not only is it a complete loss of free will and self-control for the victim, but it's actively interfering with their blood circulation system and is most definitely beyond agonizing. Pretty sure after a certain time of somebody having bloodbending performed on them, they'd suffer a stroke because of the lack of blood flowing to their brain, or a miryad of other horrific ways to die whilst literally being used as a puppet. And that is just what the canon in-show bloodbending is able to do! Imagine what else you could potentially do with such a horrific force. A bloodbender could kill someone by targeting a certain organ of theirs and concentrating all the blood in there, they could burst their blood vessels and kill them from the slow agony of internal bleeding... Why do I even think of deranged things like that... Yeah I am kind of glad that Avatar is PG.

A last ditch effort with the waterbender’s own blood could also work if they’re getting closed in on for a final blow by bbeg and they just erupt a razor sharp spike of frozen blood from a cut. If it’s fast enough, they can strike down bbeg first.

As much as I am a fan of waterbending, I wanna bet Nickelodeon wanted Avatar to not be too dark with the use of bloodbending but more as a fun adventurous action type of way to how it’s used rather than being horrified like what invader Zim did with Organ harvest episode😨. 5:22 I've been working on a fanfic about the Earth Avatars called the Legend of Jasmine I haven't gotten to it yet but the Waterbender of Team Avatar 3.0 actually has Hemophobia because she bloodbent her dead parents blood when their killer was about to kill her. She specializes in "Steam Bending" which is basically the reverse of Ice Bending- turning water into steam and bending it.

Water benders could in theory use high-humidity locations to their advantage with their very own version of Tophs vibration-vision by sensing the disturbances in water molecules. I think this combined with being able to sense one's own blood would be a new look into water bending. I'm more interested in seeing a modern take on the Avatar series. Maybe Avatar Korra passes and an Avatar Festival is held once the next avatars identity has been confirmed. It would be cool to see a kids animated series be turned into an adult spinoff/sequel where more of the blood bending-horrors of war-or even hardships of dating and finding true love can be fully explored. ATLA has some diverse, scary, yet super cool spirits and creatures that I would love to just explore and learn more and more about it. An adult series that has its slow-burn times (even if it's filler episodes) and allows itself to grow and show us (not tell us) would be awesome

She invented these Webshooters made from a Blood Transfusion Apparatus that would be punctured to one of her veins & connected to these tubes & she was able to both suck her enemies' blood or sling bloody webs.

This is a really cool video! I think psychic blood bending and combustion bending totally open the door for all types of psychic bending. I've thought that air bending was the most powerful and deadly form of bending ever since seeing the anime "Kaze no Stigma." The way the main character uses his air powers in that show is wild. Unfortunately, I think the writer of the manga died before it was complete and the anime only ever got one season. Definitely worth checking out though.

I want an underground doctor who uses blood bending for procedures. Someone who knows the dangers but is so FOCUSED on their craft as a healer they just 'can not' not use it when say a patient goes into a cardiac arrest! They use it for everything from feeling for blood clots, internal leaks and bursts, unusual pressure- and maybe they hold themselves to the doctors Oath of 'Doing no Harm' so passionately that it's the ONLY way they use their water bending at all! Healing and defense. They don't even fight if someone attacks them. 'Cause they are bound by that oath, BECAUSE they are a blood bender, they won't fight back offensively even to their own detriment- so they don't go mad. Like old school Batman and his no kill oath. Because they KNOW it's a slippery slope. yes I made an Oc like this. It was fun!

Its probably already used as an aspect of healing, just opposed. Heres some equations I felt like doing based on Wuxing. Water += Prana/Yin-Yang Energy = Healing -> Movement/Internal Balance; Prana/Yin Energy(Or alternatively Fire) + Metal/Earth + Water ≈ Blood Moon -> (Ying-Yang Energy/Water Bender) > Blood(Water/Prana) -> Internal Imbalance

Blowing people up with their own blood water content is uh... Exactly how the BFG9000 works in DOOM 2016. The heat energy from the tether connected to the central orb the BFG shoots, flash boils the water content in the blood and fatty tissue of the target, which causes rapid gas expansion, and like an egg in a microwave, internal pressure from gas expansion reaches a point where your meat and skin can't contain it, and you pop. Seeing as Water benders can increase or reduce water's molecular activity into separate states such as ice, it's not a stretch to assume a good enough water bender could make water just move faster molecularly to gasify it.

Why these likely won't happen is because you need balance. So if you ever made exploding someone's organs possible, then you would need earthbenders to have the ability to bonebend and crush bones, airbenders to mass suffocate, and firebenders to...(honestly not sure what illegal technique firebenders can do maybe freeze their opponent like when Sozin took the heat out of the volcano to harden the rock that one time?). Another aspect aside from balancing it across elements is that I want eyecandy. Book 1 wasn't even a fight, it was just a horror movie and they didn't really have a fighting chance against amon aside from massive amounts of plot armor. But look at season 3 it was AWESOME. The fight scenes were well choreographed, and the suffocation technique had limits(target has to be immobilized). If you have a villain you need to SHOW me that they are powerful by letting them outskill the characters in fights and make the audience argue how the heroes could've one. In bloodbending you can't argue how anyone could survive it. If they were ever to use bloodbending again, then a good counter is like what Amon did: if a bloodbender is bloodbending you, you bloodbend yourself to cancel it out.

I feel like the other elements could do things like Bloodbending. For example, Airbending can be used to take the oxygen out of someone's lungs. So for firebending, they could change the body temperature of someone, making them overheat, and for Earthbending, since bones contain calcium, a naturally occuring metal, they could move someone's bones around to control them (basically a more precise bloodbending), or just break all the bones in their body.

Bloodbending is the best combat skill for a Waterbender to have and the only thing I could compare it to is maybe Zaheer's ability to bend oxygen out of people's lungs. I really want to see an Avatar who can bloodbend and I was hoping Korra would have mastered it being form the Water Tribe but her only sub bending combat skill was Metalbending. Bloodbenders like Katara and Amon are basically genius level benders.

Just give enemies a heart attack or stroke, no need for something as dramatic as freezing a person or destroying their body with internal blood spikes or anything like that. To tell you the truth, despite bloodbending almost exclusively being used by villanous characters, it could be a very powerful pacifying technique, used by (a) character(s) who want to subdue a dangerous bender in order to either escape or apprehend them. Hot take. Benders of the same element can in fact do multiple bending styles. While it is an offshoot of their original bending style it is a unique form that they can master. Such as fire and lightning, earth has metal, lava and sand bending. Water of course can use healing and blood bending under the right circumstances. And air bending has spirit bending.

I could see bloodbending in none violent ways helping others -Mainly for medical purposes(preventing blood loss) -Blocking the bending of dangerous criminals -manipulating the chi paths in non benders to allow people to finally bend an element of their own - closing an element and instead open up another one - As therapy for traumatized people by manipulating a persons chi paths instead of using needles like they did in book 3 of LoK

Bloodbending doesn't allow non benders to bend. Bending is more than physical, it's also a spiritual ability which bloodbending can not really affect. It can only Block chi points permanently (like chi blocking from ty lee) but it doesn't actually remove someone's bending from their body like some people think.

I think you didn't go dark enought! Imagine a show where the villian was the avatar all the way through, because now that the conection with previous avatars Is lost, wouldn't have any guidence. So imagine, the avatar Is evil, and Is in the avatar state, then an army goes against the avatar to try to take It down, then the avatar bends the air out of their lungs, killing everybody and uses bloodbending to raise all the bodies again and there! An instant zombie army under the avatar's complete control.

We gotta remember tho that bloodbending is the second most rare bending in both avatar and korra on behind lava bending with only 2 known users. Waterbending is powerful but it can’t be considered the most powerful element as if the average bender( I.e. just someone who can throw water and ice around) went up against other elements they’d be considered weak.

All the base elements are equal. If we’re considering 4 benders who are the best at every sub element, it’s 4:fire 3:earth 2:air 1:water. Even if blood bending could only be used on a full moon, (which in this hypothetical fight isn’t the case) a guarantee win once a month is still a crazy ratio

Getting the strongest representatives of the element isn’t proving anything. The normal person in avatar and korra can’t even blood bend. Lightning bending was rare in avatar but became common place in korra metal bending is the most used subelement. Air bending is versatile to the point to where they don’t need subelements also there’s only a handful of them left. Bloodbending isn’t something most benders can do and even if you get the strongest benders for each element (katara, toph, Aang, and zuko,azula, or iroh) katara is normal until the full moon. The others people are the worlds greatest earth bender the avatar and a potential or literal firelord. You could argue that Amon was the strongest waterbender cause he could blood bend without a full moon but his father got washed by Aang who had the same abilities he did. Also bloodbending isn’t just a insta win like the community says it is. There’s a known flaw with blood bending that shows this video is outdated. The fact that in both avatar series if the person that is being blood bended is a stronger bender than the blood bender they can just break out. Amon is no where near the other 3 and without a full moon neither is katara (Sorry about the paragraphs)

I think the entire point of the show is to show that all the base elements are equal. No subending, it’s pretty much the same. And no, the ratio isn’t losing every time except once a month, it’s they have a chance of winning, but blood bending makes it guaranteed. Also using avatars to prove points about benders is kinda unfair. Like the avatar will win against any bender if they’re fully realized. So saying that because aang beat a blood bender proves it’s bad just doesn’t make any sense. Like just go into the avatar state and you’re untouchable. And you also made the point that the flaw is that if somones better at blood bending than you you’d lose. But that’s still another water bender, fire, air, and earth are completely powerless against a blood bender. So saying that if someone else is a water bender and that’s how you beat it, that’s just reinforcing my point that water is the best. And without a full moon Amon solos everyone you listed(besides Aang because you know, avatar).

@@rami3164 well if you remember blood bending isn’t just straight up winning and instant death it’s a restriction tool. And in amons case a restriction tool to let him get close enough so he can temporarily take someone’s bending away like a chi blocker. But we’ve seen in the legend of korra that while being blood bent you are still able to bend like when mako was fighting Amon and was still able to get off a lightning attack while being blood bended. So blood bending isn’t entirely all powerful. It also depends on the clothes worn by the target. If someone is wearing armor like metal armor like police force wear it takes longer to bend them. Also if we are going strongest possible it makes sense to use the strongest person possible for that subelement we could replace Aang with zaheer as he was a genuinely better air bender than Aang but in a fight bloodbending just makes it harder to bend not impossible it wouldn’t take zaheer much to just fly. For earth benders I would have to change toph to kyoshi because she’s stronger but we restrict her to earth bending and no avatar powers. In the comics earth benders have as much control over the body as water benders being able to bend bones and bend the material in their body to remain immortal like kyoshi did. They also have crazy offensive ways to use earth as earth metal and lava is just about everywhere while most waterbenders have to carry their own water or be close to itself. Potentially if Amon bloodbended kyoshi she would still be able to bend just not get off a fatal attack on Amon but she would be able to bend her own bones to sort of dispel the blood bending. A fire bender probably gets beaten though unless they connect with lightning as mako could still bend lightning while being blood bended so if they get a lucky hit Amon can’t really defend it if he doesn’t entirely miss

@@OtakuB.Jordan t his ass whooped by Tenzin, who was taught by Aang. And no non Avatar could be a better bender than a realized Avatar. And how would Zaheer possibly fly if a blood bender just simply freezes him in place. Only bending technique that could be done without any physical motion is blood bending. Even Bumi moved the muscles in his face to bend. And no I don’t count combustion bending because you need to take a breath for that. Mako only hit Amon with lightning because Amon forgot to blood bend his fingers. No way Zaheer would do anything to Amon. And bone bending was a fan creation that has been disproven multiple times. Bone bending is not possible. And even if it was, the argument that a bone bender could counter a blood bender isn’t possible because there is 3 times as much water in your body as bones. If you completely freeze someone in place controlling every muscle in their body, they can’t bend, as bending is a martial art. This is also proven when Toph tries to stop Yakone and once she’s blood bent her metal whip falls and she can’t bend. So unless your a better blood bender. While you’re being blood bent you can’t bend, and after it you also can’t bend, because they took it. No hate to you but it pisses me off so much when people bring up bone bending. People make up history and people who’ve used it and don’t mention it’s not canon so it misleads a lot of people. Bone bending is physically impossible and has been disproved as the calcium in your bones is different than the calcium in the earth, and if earth benders can’t bend wood because it’s organic they 100% couldn’t bend bones
