That's how I beat Orphan, he beat my ass multiple times, I asked for help, the guy who ran in got stomped (forgot if he landed like 3 weak hits or if he died instantly), then I pretty much went "well fuck, this run is over" and beat him that run. Maybe it drained the anxiety out of my body for a bit cuz I thought I was f'd (Cuz I knew the health thing) or whatever, idk, but I don't think I was too worried about the boss cuz I knew I had a lot of insight left, either way, was pretty hype. I remember going into the final boss of dark souls 3 base game (haven't gotten the dlc yet after years, I've beaten 2 souls-like since then (nioh and the surge) even, was expecting to just check it out not expecting much, and bam, pretty high energy but easy time of it.

@@IskandarTheWack The dark souls DLC is more than worth the price. between AoA and TRC you get a solid extra 20 hours of content, easily the coolest and most challenging boss fights across the DS series, and some of the most interesting character interactions and lore bites in the series as well. They also do a really good job of finishing off the story of Dark Souls and go beyond just the cyclical "linking the fire"

@Court Jester Yes! I can't speak for OP, but I remember hating DS1 so much I dropped it for 8 months on my first playthrough. Again, the guilt got to me and I said "it's just a fucking game, it can't be that bad." Went back to it and beat it in a week. That was about 3 years ago. Now I have played every single DS game hundreds of times and it's my favorite game series of all time. The most eye-opening moment for me was the realization that those games aren't made to break you, but for you to overcome. They aren't impossible challenges, but they don't hold your hand either. You just gotta keep at it, and never lose hope.

@@Saint.Cosmos Yeah I agree I think they both perform skill checks differently. Father Gasoline is to check your parrying and cleric beast your item use and dodging. BSB is a ramp up in difficulty compared to them both so it’s somewhat of a final skill check so you’ll really get a good idea of the speed you should be expecting from the rest of the game. So depending on what you’re bad at you’ll have more or less trouble depending on the boss

Embrace a bit of grinding when current boss is ridiculously hard (grinding to ease difficulty is like food spiciness- you adjust it according to personal taste). Test out new weapons and find your favorites; it's beneficial to have more than one style of attack. When the worlds open up, try visiting a few to find what places are most managible for you. Sorry this info came so late.

To be fair, a person playing Bloodborne as one of their first video game titles is going to trigger animal instincts. To her it feels like a truly hostile environment. It's probably more hostile than real life. It's like a window into hell. I remember struggling with Super Mario 1 on the NES back when I was a kid. That was my first game. This is hilarious! My boyfriend made me play Bloodborne as well, and that was the game that turned me into a gamer. It was so infuriating dying and having to start all over again. That was almost the same experience as making my older brother play this game, besides him being WAY more into videogames at all. He struggled pretty much with the first hours of the game, he really disliked Dark Souls 1, but Bloodborne interested him a bit more. It wasn't on the Cleric Beast, but after some hours he started to learn how to make the combat easier, and, if i remember well in the path to the Hemwick area, he said "now i'm starting to understand why people like this, it isn't insanely hard, i'm learning now". That was extremely satisfying for me, as the Souls Series is probably my favorite media of all time. Now he has already beaten Ds3, and the last time we talked about Souls he was stucked half-way through Ds2. Now i'm just hoping he doesn't find my comment here, i have send this video to him. q-p

What I mean is that when someone first starts playing the Soulsbourne games, there are those who die twice to Ornstein and Smough, and there are those who die a couple dozen times to the Asylum Demon. There are those who ragequit when they die a few times and try again a few weeks later, and there are those who keep on trudging forward no matter how much they failed. Sure, the former might be a more skilled player, might finish the game in one hour, and be the l33t k1ng 0f pvp, but to be honest, the later player deserves more admiration. The theme of the Soulsbourne games (more of the Souls, honestly) is not about being a naturally skilled player. It's about persistence, never giving up. The ideal traits of the Chosen Undead aren't necessarily present in the first example of a player, but they 100% sure are there in the second one. (and I'm not sure what playing back in the PS3 has anything to do with anything, but oh well... I won't be annoying about that xD)

I feel like she might like Sekiro. It has a sneak mechanic, jumping, a much for straight forward story and progression when it comes to stats, no real gear or weapons to worry about, and it over all is a much more streamlined experience. I personally prefer all the numbers and whatnot from Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but Sekiro is maybe a better starting game. As a side note, it is true that Bloodborne has the worst healing system in any the Soulsborne game, it combines the worst aspects of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls into one really annoying and shitty system. Running out of blood vials does force you to grind if you don't want to lose your fighting chance because you can no longer heal up, but you can't stock up on them in excess if you do choose to grind because they cap at 20. To make things worse you can't buy them early on without wasting your blood echoes because you need to save though for leveling up and upgrading your weapons.

Actually you can stock up on excess. Any excess blood vials, quicksilver bullets, or other items over the maximum get sent to the storage and are replenished when you die or go to the Hunter's Dream.

Sure you could be OP if you could hold over 20 vials, but the problem is the health system in Bloodborne is fundamentally broken and basically designed to be annoying. It should have been like Dark Souls which already perfected the healing system, where you have a set number of healing items every time you die and they always come back.

@@seinfeldx You really don’t need to kill BSB and you can kill it later. A serrated weapon with fire buff works very well. You are actually punished for killing BSB, the game adds tougher enemies, the sack guys, and you will get kidnapped by the first one to another optional area which is a part of Yahargul before you reach it in the main storyline. Actually, you don’t need to go to old city at all except maybe to pick up Hunter’s torch and some upgrade materials and charred hunter set. You can do all of that without killing a single beast, then escape back.

The best part of the soulbourne games is that rush of euphoria when you beat that hard as nails boss. The stress and frustration of all those deaths and enemies is completely worth it for when you do win because it feels like you've beaten the impossible

Honestly learning to run past enemies and on a more technical level figuring out enemy leashing is actually one of the biggest things you can learn in souls games. Killing all enemies is really only done for three things: unhindered thorough exploration, checking to see what goodies you can get, and farming. If you're just trying to progress and you're there's an area of relative safety beyond some enemies, there's little reason to not run right past them. I had some friends who were both very familiar with games give up on Bloodborne after not being able to get through Central Yharnam. I also love the troll is both literal and figurative, as he has back turned and is fixed when you approach him, but if you ignore him and continue past only then will he roam and wander into you after you convinced yourself he wasn't an active threat.

Yeah, but i find it extremely satisfying to kill every enemy. Just walking through bloodborne with every enemy dead is one of the most eerie things. Plus, you quickly build up resources. Chances are, if you’re semi good, you’ll always get your stuff back. Unlike dark souls, this game encourages that type of thing. Plus, if you get lucky, you’ll get blood stone shards or twin shards from hard enemies. It really rewards killing large amounts of enemies.

Running only works after you know where to run. Running in random direction typically punishes you with loss of souls.

@@noop9k I would partially agree with that. You don't have to have completely conquered an area to run through parts of it. What I'm specifically referring to is the tendency by a lot of first time players that I've seen to try to kill every enemy in any area before being able to move on, when really you can run through different sections of an area to get to where you left off when you died. Running around without any experience in an area will likely not end well though.

Enemies in BB are not as relentless at chasing you as most DS1 enemies but still deadly enough if you don’t expect them. *MAYBE* nightmare of mensis? Seriously??

Am so happy for you guys! First, well more like my 4th playthrough in bloodborne i gave up when i had to fight the cleric beast. For 2 years it was sitting idly. Then i decided to give it another go. every mastery of a section gave me confidence and bloodlust. Hardest boss in the game turned out to be was self defeat. Quite nostalgic feeling watching the cries of utter victory in dire situations

29:50 I remember the same thing happening to me when I fought the cleric beast. I feel like the game is actually designed to make that moment so epic at this point. you run out of blood viles but the beast is so low. You dash in and trade blow for blow like a mighty gladiator ignoring all safety as your opponent finally falls and you are the last standing. you put your controller down and raise your arms in victory, the gesture controls kicking in making your character do a victory pose as well.

Bloodborne is the cream of the crop. So good. Makes me wanna play it again. I had ds 1,2 and 3 experience and was someone who basically always two handed and never used shields, so it felt pretty comfortable at that point. I got my ass handed to me numerous times too. I'd have hated to play this as someone with no experience or someone who relies on shields.
