Good video, thanks for making it! Sorry you struggled so much with the Duo. They are a trash boss imo but they are free on a RL1 run even on NG+7. Also, no the dodge for Elden Stars was not patched out, it's still consistent and still by far the best way to avoid it. It's just difficult to execute. If you ever do another run like this ask around for strategies if you want that problematic sections to be less so. Edit; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by SotE. Imo if you're using blessings (which you should) it's significantly easier than the base game. I'd watch more videos like this!

In the middle of the SoTE run atm and it's about 10x harder than the base game lol, though I am doing it with no blessings and continuing with no summons or armour. Golden Hippo has been the most unpleasant and infuriating boss so far whilst Commander Gaius has been the most fun. Not looking forward to Bayle or Metyr at all...
@BBQcheese3 сағат бұрын
@@candletype1a447 Can I ask why you opted to not use blessings? I've done the base game RL1+0, no buffs/AuX/AoW/ great runes and some bosses even did no talismans. I have a lot of experience. Even I used blessings on my first run. It's ultimately up to you but don't make it so hard on yourself that it's no longer fun. Personally as a somewhat experienced challenge runner the best piece of advice I can give is that it's better to raise the challenge incrementally. Also, not sure if you're on PC or console but don't train at RL1. I generally have a second character with high health and defense but very low damage that I practice with. This allows me to get hit a lot while I'm learning. You can have a grace active for every rememberance in SotE except PCR at the same time. Bayle is going to be rough for sure. Keep in mind that at zero blessings you'll need something like Raptor of the Mists for Metyr or you won't be able to avoid the laser. You're right though, Golden Hippo is inexcusably awful. If you're going to stick to zero blessings though just skip him. The only reason to fight him is for the fragments he drops. He's not a remembrance and there's a different entrance available for Shadowkeep. If you haven't done it yet I really fear for your sanity with ancient dragon man and particularly Jori both of which are worse than Gideon at RL1 zero blessings imo. Giants hunt can get you through ADM and look up the backstab loop strat for Jori, it's a bit hard to learn to do consistently but it's by far the easiest and most consistent method.
@candletype1a4473 сағат бұрын
I was originally gonna do the run with blessings but then decided it'd be more worthwhile to go the whole hog, particularly cos I'll be doing a video about it - wanna make it that bit spicier! And yeah, Metyr's big laser attack has always baffled me so I will most likely either use RotM or just rely on my Opaline Bubble, though that'd mean I'd otherwise need to do her no-hit which probably isn't happening... I knew Golden Hippo was optional but thought I'd give him a go anyway for fun, but after spending a couple of hours on him and getting crushed, was determined to take the beast down. I did beat it but it took a long time and it was a horrendous experience; I think I hate the Golden Hippo more than the Godskin Duo now. Have also beaten Rellana, Dancing Lion, Scadutree Avatar, Putrescent Knight, and Gaius thus far and am currently on Messmer. Funny you mention Jori cos I tried and failed on that boss for a while and had to call it quits and postpone it. I've gotten them down to about 30% HP with the backstab loop but always end up missing before boss teleports away. I'll get her though!
@BBQcheese3 сағат бұрын
@@candletype1a447 Yeah, Jori is so bad lol that teleport is just awful. I was originally using mesericorde for the crit damage but I switched to star fists you can proc bleed with back stabs which was a huge help. GG on Golden Hippo, I agree it's an awful boss! Looking forward to the video, if you get stuck on anything don't hesitate to ask. The challenge run community is super wholesome and even the worlds best runners are all very down to earth people and generally willing to help in my experience.

16:43 ok i did not ask you to put me in your video 😹 Thank you for including Wormface. idk what the general opinion is but there is something about them that just creeps me out more than any other enemy. Something being a grotesque beast is whatever, nothing wrong for me there. but the noises and strange uncanny look of the wormfaces just mess me up, they dont outright scare me just give me a very uneasy feeling. Then their attacks being sort of disgusting make it worse too. ( and also they are like one of the hardest enemies for me to fight). I hate them.

i think one of my favorite things about the Scadutree Avatar is the music - how it starts grandiose with a dark edge, and gradually becomes more and more somber, quieter and quieter, completely opposite from what you'd typically expect from the music. The third phase especially, it sounds so sad and desolate, barely more than a dirge for this divine guardian to wallow in dark obscurity, forgotten by all but you. There were a lot of awesome and memorable bosses in Shadow Of the Erdtree, some even tragic, but this one sticks out to me because it's so emotional. Of all the major bosses you face in the Shadow of the Erdtree, this is the only one i think i could describe as... innocent. Most of the other major bosses - if not all of them - have committed grave atrocities, been responsible for the loss of many lives, be it through war or genocide or dabbling with apocalyptic forces. Even as an embodiment of the Scadutree, a dark and divine thing born of that which distorts and weakens Order, it hasn't committed any crime. It's no monster, no matter how monstrous it may be in appearance. It's just trying to defend itself; it just wants to live. It reminded me of Sif when I first fought it, though it's nearly as emotional as that fight was. The fight is so tragic, the music is downright haunting, and seeing the poor boy limp breaks my heart everytime. I couldn't help but tear up a little when I saw the variation of the scene where he recognizes you. Sif weakens throughout the fight too, but it's so much sadder when he does; he limps slowly instead of rushing you, his swipes are clumsier, and with one of his attacks he collapses on the ground and has to pick himself back up again to continue fighting. It affects every part of the fight.

I’m glad someone else hates memory of the old iron king as much as me. It’s a really amateurish and bizarrely designed level with one of the most frustrating run backs in the series. At one point I had killed the Alonne knights and Salamanders so many times trying to get to Sir Alonne that I despawned almost all the enemies and the area became barren. Which in itself is a weird aspect of DS2 and not really sure why it’s featured other than to mitigate the poor enemy placement and gank fests of the game

I loved this game when it came out and still do. I first played it on my friend's GameCube, he had borrowed it from one of or mutual friends but was too scared to play it by himself so he asked me to play the village section for him. It HOOKED me. From then on I became obsessed with getting it for my own PS2. Then I found the steel book edition in CEX for a steal. Not only that but it was in perfect condition complete with the mini guide for Chapter 1! From then on my friend who also owned it for the Wii and my other friend who owned the GameCube version would talk about our favourite weapons and sections of the game and eventually even started talking about the minor differences between our versions. This game was everything in High School. As a final point, you said at the start that playing through it 50 times would be absolutely mental. Adding together how many times I played through the game on each difficulty and the few times I would complete the game on the GameCube and Wii with my other friends back in the day, I definitely must be mental. 🤣🤣🤣 Excellent video dude, enjoyed from start to finish.

I was 7 when it came out, I remember the night of my 7th Birthday, I went outside at night and carved a number 7 into a tree and under the stars of the clear desert sky I may a vow to always remember that night, I don’t know why. Oddly enough I played this game when I was younger, and went my whole life sort of never understanding it, at age 30 I revisited the game and found myself absolutely baffled at how much I can relate to the characters especially Cloud. As a child I always praised him as a cool edgy badass, having never finished the game when I played it in the 90s. Uncovering Clouds true self was like uncovering my true self, it absolutely blew my mind… This story was written for me.

1:38 I was at a very good time in my life when FFX released and the soundtrack and overall aesthetic of Spira will forever be near and dear to my heart. I was 20 years old working my first ever job at a movie theater that was more like getting paid to hang out with my friends, friends that I am close with even to this day. We had planned a camping trip to middle of nowhere to these sand dunes far away from civilization out in the desert somewhat near Las Vegas. I remember I had made it all the way to Thunder Plains in FFX right before leaving on the trip. I had a wonderful time on the trip and all the while I was thinking about FFX and how being in the middle of nowhere kinda felt like being on an epic journey like in all Final Fantasy games. Any time I think of FFX or that trip I always associate them together in my mind. Some of my fondest memories. I'm rambling though. Basically I'm saying the music, art and aesthetics of Final Fantasy are always associated with great memories for me.

24:00 Umm...actually that's not a Wormface. It's a Mimic that disguised itself as a zombie in order to explore the world, but when attacked it transforms into a Wormface because they're more dangerous. There's also two Runebear versions (Limgrave, and Consecrated Snowfield), and in Liurnia there is a lobster version that becomes a Royal Revenant. In Altus there's also one that looks like a noble but becomes an Omen Lion/Divine Beast Lion when attacked. Lastly, in Caelid there's a noble that becomes a troll knight. We know they're mimics because they change form and drop larval tears. Great video btw. My theory on Wormfaces is that they're Erdtree Guardians who've become corrupted when the Erdtree roots on their backs become contaminated with Deathroot. Liked and subscribed.

Putting the Crucible Knight at the start of the game as a evergaol boss was insane lol. Especially when you go all the way past Ranni's house and the gaol there has a guy who gets stunlocked by a normal Claymore. The evergaols are so weirdly chosen tbh.

I mean you're clearly supposed to summon for those DS2 levels. They're optional gauntlets that allowed you to summon players outside the DLC, and provide you NPC summons to even the odds. Its fine to dislike them but you're misunderstanding the intended playstyle and judging them based on that. Memory of old iron king isnt great yes but you're clearly supposed to run through avoiding combat. Because it's a memory level and you likely won't have enough time to fight everything. Additionally the fire lizards are basically turrets that are highly resistant to attacks. Shouldn't really be any confusion on how to approach it. Edit: I'm sorry I'm kind of beginning to question how familiar you are with this game 😂. You absolutely do not have to fight anything to get to Ornifex. The bonfire right nearby allows you to light a torch which repels all spiders, and nothing follows you inside if you run straight to her. The casters's projectiles were deliberately designed to not reach inside either. This is second playthrough stuff.
