I lived there from the 2nd grade to the 10th grade in the 60s. Had a lot of fun growing up there. We moved to Huntington in 1970. Kinda sad to see the population drop so much since then.

My twins are were the last babies to be born at the old hospital. they had to bring equipment back over from the new hospital because I had to have a C-section. They laughed because they said if I could have held off a week my sons would have been the first to born at the new hospital… I said no thanks I want this over! Lol it’s a good memory.

Leo, Thanks for the tour. I am surprised at how they changed Death Rock from a rustic stop to a mini park. Also that building across from the old Memorial Hospital was the Williamson Water Works. They would take water from Tug River and pump it to that building for treatment and purification. You forgot to mention that business was so good that Claudia McCoy not only ran the Alvon Hotel, she also had the Mingo Hotel and Restaurant on Third Ave.

Seems like my kind of town. Very laid back and peaceful. Had the opportunity to drive thru W.V. about to years ago in semi. Didn’t go through your town but seen a lot of purty countryside out there.

My mother was from Clarksburg and alas married a handsome Texan. She was forever a West Virginian and missed WVA her whole life. We kids learned " The West Virginia Hills". right along with " Texas Our Texas". The Stealeys built a summer cabin up on the Little Kanawa River near Wildcat,WVA. I got to visit and the swinging bridge scared me to death. I so appreciate you and Heather's videos . It's like hearing Mother's WVA tales and stories. Thank you.

Many memories good and not so good in Williamson. We would travel from Lovely, KY to Williamson for shopping at Sears, the record store, clothing and shoe stores. The 5 and dime store and for fabric. Is the old Cinderella Theater still there? In 1977 the entire area had a devastating flood 😢. I remember Stewart's on US 52. The BEST ROOT BEER ❤❤❤ and the hotdogs were good. Had several relatives die at the Miner's hospital on the KY side. 292 was always full of pot holes😂. Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Keep up the awsome work.❤❤❤

Do what i did . Organize some folk whom are like minded and Clean it up Yourself . I cleaned up My neighborhood , im Rural and it was terrible here . Now its really clean and all throughout the spring/summer i carry garbage bags and recycling bags with me on my rides and ifi see crap ill bag it up and leave it at the side, intersection usually and call the county and they remove it . Talk to your city/township and i bet they would be willing to help in some manner . Hell you may even be able to get Them to do it if you raise a big enough fuss :) My Motto is "Dont wait for others to do what You can Do Now" . BTW . I am a Disabled individual. If I can do it Anyone can . I fucking HATE litter and those who litter with a passion . Ive even shamed half the towns businesses that had garbage everywhere .. its clean now . Cheers.

@@fetus2280 OH believe me I do get out and pick it up. Not found any others willing to help. Have talked to officials they just say Noone wants to work. Not enough man power. Lol. So yeah for the most part I do what I can in my area. I'm like you, always hate to see litter and try to teach my family to pick it up when you see trash! Just as soon as it's all picked up and clean- seems we've got some spitefuls that throw down even more! It is what it is...guess it's just the sign of the times full of disrespectful humans!

Leo with your hometown experience knows those mountains like you know your restroom at the house I am sure you head up the mountain rescue team there in your area to find lost people up in the mountain, s. That little town could become a year around tourist destination with a minimum investment of money, get a couple of heavy-duty snow-making machines and create a couple of ski hills and Leo you could create a company of guided hunts back in the mountains for deer and Bear and set up a large primitive wilderness camping area, it would just be a matter of you doing it because you have the local knowledge and the expertise, and along with the proper scheduling this area could easily be turned into a year tourist destination, good luck ❤

Stopped there about a month ago and just about got robbed twice lol. I thought it was funny the two gentlemen tried to rob me lol. I ain’t no little feller and when they seen me, they turned away quick. It was pretty obvious they were up to no good. I’m from Southeastern Kentucky born and raised so we all are about the same. I’ve worked twenty years underground for Bluediamond and BlackHawk. “Roof Bolter.” As I said, I just laughed and shook it off. I guess they thought I was a tourist. With that being said. We absolutely love West Virginia and it’s our second home. We’ve been over here for the past year working and you can’t find better folks besides the ones that tried to rob us lol
