What lovely blooms this month Annabelle. Everything looks so gorgeous. The sharry baby spikes are lovely, I feel like they are so easy to grow and forgiving, I love them :)) Side note, I've been adding pebbles to my semi hydro orchids to combat the top layer and it's making a big difference, roots are going down into the medium instead of drying off. Learning a lot from your experiments. Fingers crossed, they will all adapt 🤞🤞🤞Take care, and have a great Sunday!

I'm thinking to move Sprite and Kiwi into the lounge for more interaction time, but it would also mean their sleep pattern may be more disrupted by us. At the moment they get really good long nights without interruptions, which is pretty important I think? We don't need cranky parrots, that's for sure 😆 Thankyou so much for your divisions, I really can't detect any fragrance from mine so it will be super interesting to see/ sniff! Hi Debra! Lovely to hear from you 🙂 Thankyou! I find the same, it gives a bit more info about light levels and what other plants a plant is growing near in similar conditions to. But it is a little more messy. I hope that isn't off putting! I've commented on Danni's videos before on my personal account, but never chatted with her, I really respect everything she does! But as a big KZbinr I expect she has been burned by enough people to be wary of random emails, I really wouldn't want to bother her! I love watching her bird videos and posts also so will continue to support her from afar 🙂 Brexit would make it difficult now, but before I thought if I ever get an interesting seedling cross out of the flask, it would be fun to send her some. But exporting will be challenging after next year 😥

I love the gorgeous displays, I'm quite jealous, since I moved cities I am struggling with keeping my orchids happy and well adjusted, so I don't have lots in bloom at the moment. I also loved the Quaker feature, they are adorable and I want to snuggle them lots. I used to have birds, and I also had to leave them with my mum when I went off to Uni, and it hurt me to do so. They are no longer alive, sadly, they were budgies, and got old and sick quite a few years ago.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan! I'm sorry, I understand the difficulties following a move and I'm sorry yours are taking a bit longer to adjust. I hope it works out for you OK soon! It is super hard leaving pets at home when you have to move away, Sprite was extremely aggressive when I got him back but he seems to be calming down now a bit and getting used to me. I'm sorry about the budgies though, I used to keep them too and they are so much fun to have about.

Thankyou 🙂 I have Gomesa crispa and Gomesa recurva, and both take standard oncidium care really. Crispa makes very long aerial roots so it's on an orchitop so that they find their way back to the pot eventually 🙂

Thankyou! Well, not really? They grow in bogs, they don't care about acidity and don't root deeply anyway 🤷♀️ Most of mine are in synthic or Sphagnum. I've repotted them yes, but only to give bigger pots. All nutrients are absorbed through the foliage anyway, so there isn't any urgency to repot them until the grow out of the pots IMO.

My orchids are in lava rock, and I water every 2 days. I must cut feed of u schedule? U water 1 per week and me 3.so I'm must 1300 ppm /3???
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
If you're watering more often it makes no difference to the ppm, you may want to feed lower even because you're doing dry cycles with the Lava, and fertiliser burn is more likely to happen during a dry cycle. All the ppm of each nutrient is shown in the longer fertiliser video, fertiliser can't really be generalised as we are all using different fertilisers and our orchids will be growing at different rates. You want to look at percentages of each major and micro nutrient and use ppm as a guide only. When they are growing more, fertilise and water more, when growing less fertilise less, is a good rule of thumb to go by.

Thankyou! There are too many similar to put an ID on I think unfortunately 🤔 Firm IDs are pretty important only if you want to hybridise, with any uncertainty you couldn't pollinate and register the cross, so I'm happy having these as NoID phals to enjoy their flowers only.

@@TheOrchidRoom For the ones where I'm pretty convinced I will label them with that I think it is (in fact, just a number, and the excel tracks what they are), and put 'cf' as Dustin recommends (HereButNot) which is a great idea in my opinion. "I've got quite a lot of No ID orchids" Until you decide to start thinning the collection and they're the first to go (because that's often how it is as our experience and tastes change). "I'm 28 now" Lies. You're not that old. The Quakers look good. Mine never tried to nest, not once, despite them being a male/female pair (I'd give them nest materials but they would just shred it). IME, they're one of the easier birds to tame or retame, it's just the cage aggression that is hard to get past. I would open the cage door and they'd climb out and on top of the cage and they were fine being handled but, if I put my hand in the cage, it was war.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. My dendrobium NoID nobile and phalaenopsis/ phalananthe/ bigibbum / whatever they are called type hybrids will be first on the chopping block I think. I'm that old unfortunately 😂 Still don't feel like an adult. When does that kick in? These ones nested and laid eggs in a spare food bowl, but Sprite is maybe a bit too old if you know what I mean. I took the food bowl away to stop them trying again! They are such cuties. I've noticed a big difference in a few months, I'm thinking of moving them into the lounge so they get more attention as we walk past the cage, now that they are less scared and aggressive. I'd like to try taking them out at some point, but that can't happen in the conservatory really.... I hope sprite at least will come around. You can still see he is curious about people 🙂💗
