I have pulled out a guy 34 minutes after he went underwater and he survived (idk if he had brain damage tho, I am just the salvage guy). It happend to other people I know too, especially in cold water. His body was cold like a dead body, and we had to warm it up using pcr. We do that with every body we find unless it has clear signs of death (if it has clearly been in the water for a few days or more). Its pretty rare after more then 30 min, but some people just start having heartbeat again and suvive the whole thing. A few years ago we got a guy with like 25 minutes who didnt even have the slightest bit of brain damage and came to thank is a few weeks later.

Few days or more? Bro you meant after 1 hour or more right? No way a person will still be alive
@myotiswii
@myotiswii 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisjlee2013 Yeah, while that would be realistic, our protocol just wants to make really really really sure. After a few hours the person still looks fresh, and then we would bring them up to normal body temperature and let a doctor check for signs of death. It slightly sucks for us, but since really dead looking drowned have gotten back before, we still do it. Honestly after the whole effort of the search, we might as well. It is also normally either you find them after maximum one hour or after a couple days anyway, because search stopps after a bit more then an hour, and they need a couple days to start floating.

the only problem is the brain needs so much engery. that means more blood flow. that leads to needing things like the liver to be awake. that leads to others needing to be awake. soon you're just awake. I love the train of thought you're on though and think with some fine tuneing it'll happen.

Fascinating. Especially the bit about the intense brain neuroplasticity. Of course reckless human testing is out of the questions, but imagine they manage to induce this one day as part of a life saving effort on somebody, and then they emerge as a genius afterwards.
