If the guy in the VR headset could shake hands with his own robot his brain would experience “body swapping “. It’s been done in neuroscience labs for the last decade and the human really does think the thing it is shaking hands with to be there own body. The effect is increased substantially if an external effect like a feather rubs against the robots arm and he feels it too. It’s a Stange future

Yes! I'd like to experience that, but what a great way to train the AI in AGI....in the future we'll probably be training robots like children... That simulation engine is incredible, modeling the motions and the physics of the pieces in realtime!

the next step is to create jobs for robots. right now we have robots taking a human's job (like assembly line, picking items from a bin and placing it somewhere else) we need to think about making an environment optimized for the robot

Finally someone figured out that for a machine to learn as we do it need to use VR to simulate an imagination to interact with the world as observing through its cameras and other sensors like animals. Its got to be the body and mind connection for AI to truly understand the physical world. To merely load up a computer with a bunch of algorithms, images and sounds to answer question when prompted is a bit like teaching Helen Keller what the world is except this Helen Keller doesn’t have a body just a mainframe, with no sense of I’m exactly right here right now and these are my limitations. I’m extremely interested to see how far Sanctuary AI gets with their approach, they might surprise themselves.

Suzanne Gildert is my favorite thinker of the big-brain AGI engineers, possibly tied with Peter Voss. She gave an interview to Singularity podcast a few years ago, I think in 2007, and her answers were the smartest possible answers.

Ubiquitous, pervasive, human like robots, driven by very clever AI software, interacting with us and the world. It is truly a new industrial revolution, but it is happening in slow motion, because it is hardest of challenges. @@earthenscience the big unknown is ai. How quickly will it evolve? We are so far away from agi, despite the ridiculous 'predictions' made by people like Ray Kurzweil. Just like nature, which can, over time, produce very unpredictable results, ai has evolved in fits and starts. It is not possible to simply extrapolate our way to a reliable prediction. We are only just beginning to understand the problem, the magnitude of the challenge. We still have no understanding of the subconscious mind, and the role it plays in directing us, and solving problems. This is a huge problem. The development of human level ai may indeed be possible, but there is no reliable prediction. It could possibly happen within 100 years, but equally, it could also very easily take centuries. If we did ever create this technology, there's no doubt, it would be mankind's greatest achievement, but possibly, in fact, very likely, our most dangerous. Just like evolution, the long term consequences for humanity could be very unpredictable, they could be dire. But one thing I'm certain of, it ain't happening anytime soon.

I think it still comes down to the finger sensors, the stepper motors (realistically we are there) and the vector-algorithms to go from x^3 to y^3 in a more linear fashion using the software. We are still a couple of years away.

As a contractor who uses touch, vision and dexterity daily for assembly tasks. I find I am more precise with feel(touch) vs vision and feel..sometimes my vision guides my hand motion inaccurately with small parts in blind areas.. We as humans are really advanced and take it for granted! Love this developing technology!

One of the interesting things I have seen in all the AI/Robotics videos is that they are building an alternative to the blue collared jobs i.e workers. Interestingly no one seems to be developing an AI/Robot which can be an alternative to the white collared or gold collared jobs.

Because those jobs wouldn't be taken over by robots. They would be taken over by software on a computer. And yes people are working on that. For example ai that can write code. No need for a robot. The software in the computer just types lines of code in itself in the computer.

On the contrary, white collar jobs have been increasingly automated for decades now. A lot of things can be automated even using simple code, and AI can even do more creative things like generating art these days. How much it has advanced in the past few weeks alone is insane!

Thank you both for replying. Yes, nil biescss, I am aware of those points, and I understand that the robot is learning the intricacies of movement, and that is the important and very interesting central focus, but there is still the misleading implication that the “robot” won the game. Unless I misunderstood, it was the pilot, Eric, that won the game. He was simply using a mechanical device to move the pieces. When the reporter asked Suzanne Gildert, the CTO, about that, she diverted to the learning process of the robot and didn’t really answer the question. I was wondering if AI knowledge of chess was giving Eric suggestions, as it seems to me that it could. Were that done, we’d have an interesting amalgamation of human physiology, and robot physiology combined with AI intelligence and human intelligence. Also, calling the robot the smartest robot, gives the impression of greater general intelligence whereas its intelligence, at this time, seems limited to its impressive abilities to acquire, understand, and replicate the complexities of navigating the physical world. Those are great advancements so I'm not downplaying their accomplishments in any way. Thank you again for your responses.

Being a Tesla FSD Beta tester makes this video extremely interesting. It is great to see that others are on the same path as per the Tesla Bot that is currently in development.

@Jack Helrein I don’t see why we shouldn’t see one by the end of the decade at the latest. Tesla are going to have an AI Day later this year where they plan to show off a prototype for their Tesla Bot. Though I doubt the robot will be very capable by then, given the amount of money they’re probably putting into the project, in a few years it will likely be a lot closer to a human level of dexterity, though probably still a bit slower. As for the AI they’re going to put in it, they plan to reuse their self-driving tech, but this time trained with a bunch of data outside of driving instead. Due to the sheer number of situations it will need to be able to account for, the robot will likely be limited to warehouse use-cases for the first few years, until it can eventually be used in everyday situations, in which case things will truly become wild.

The way you want to build a robot is from the feet up. The better articulated the feet in a robot, the better the rest of the robot. Most robots I’ve seen have really bad feet.

When I heard the voice of "Eric" I was so excited because it was sooo smooth in comparison to GPT3 or Leta. Then I discovered that was an actual human talking. No, this robot is in development but right now today, it does not seem sentient nor does it seem to be the smartest robot. It's quite a feat! I'm very excited for this 🤖 but I find the gpt3 and Lamda to actually be sentient, I'm not getting that feeling from Eric, and maybe that's by design ? She's absolutely amazing and Eric is definitely her baby 🍼🐥🍼🐥 I'm very positive and optimistic about robots and AIs. I think they will bring more honesty back into humanity.

I have an inkling suspicion the Tesla Bot project will announce it collaborated with that great company on the technology. Actuators and the hardware is solved for, mostly, what's missing is real world AI. Exactly what is needed to solve a real-world bot that would finally take it out of the lab and into the factory. I never understand why these robotics guys don;t leverage existing designs for hands the vfx specialists created for movies. I forget the guys name, but he's solved the mechanical design of a hand - that's is as dexterous as the human hand [obviously his version has no robotics or ai] -- that's' where these guys come in - his design will allow these guys to code it to move far more like a human hand than their current design why reinvent the wheel, especially when your objective is to build a car - just get the wheel from someone else

Other than allowing the human pilot to control the robot, I don’t understand what advantage AI is giving the pilot in the chess game. At the face of it, it seems that two humans are playing chess, but one of them moves the pieces via his robot avatar. In essence one human beat another human in a game of chess. How was AI involved in the game?

Well, in this case from what I understood the IA is focused on learning the movement and the phisics on how to pick and move the chess pieces. This IA is not focused on learning or decided how to win the game. The part where decides which pieces of the chess are moved is already accomplished with Alphazero or other projects.
