If you ever get asked the practical benefit of ISRO's space programs - the 1999 super cyclone which hit Odisha took 10,000 lives as precise satellite modelling of the cyclone's path was not available and rescue came after it had passed. Today the cyclones hitting the east coast are precisely tracked by ISRO's satellite network in real time and evacuations done much in advance reducing fatalities to a low double digits or even lesser.

When people say that India should focus on their poor instead of spending so much on space exploration. I have an answer for you. We Indians don't do this for pleasure, tourism or for showing our grandeur. We do it on the basis on our needs. Unlike NASA, SpaceX, Blue origins we don't do it for rich people. We do it for our own national needs.

To the people who are still wondering why is it justifiable for any country to have a space program despite having 'poverty', please do us all a favor and educate yourself on the applications of remote sensing and satellite imagery, hopefully you'll get your answers..... I wonder if Bloomberg would ever do a piece on how remote sensing and the satellites launched by ISRO has progressed multiple sectors in India, about how it made weather forecasting more accurate, how its application has played out in agriculture, disaster management, forest, land and water resource managements, education, business, defense, employment 'n research opportunities..... since it's Bloomberg, how about crunching some numbers and estimating how that lifted so many Indians above the poverty indicators.....Well, it's Bloomberg...might as well think homelessness would be nil and affordable medicine 'n Healthcare is possible in USA

@@napobg6842 There would be nothing wrong with having two space launch options that would be affordable. The big space launch companies have to get a grasp on reality. Just because it works a certain way does not mean it will not work in a more economical manner. Work used plastic trays to transport tools from work station to work station. It worked great for decades. Every year new plastic trays were bought. The old, damaged, plastic trays were thrown away but stayed in a landfill for a very long time and were quite pricey. Now we use thick, corrugated cardboard trays. We throw the trays onto the cardboard recycle machine when ever they break. Every week, we get new thick cardboard trays. The shipping cardboard is thrown into the machine also, used paper, and the such. Our tool transport trays are now only the cost of the fuel to run the machine. The fuel is nothing but diesel for the DC generator. On top of that, no plastic trays on the landfill. People have to start thinking of cheaper but equal ways of doing things for everything, not just space launches and exploration.

That's impressive but for India and it is definitely not humiliating anybody. It is a great achievement for India and their capabilities because they proved they can successfully send a orbiter around Mars. Yet you can't say that it is humiliating the likes on NASA or the American space industry as a whole. India has never done anything like what NASA is doing. And yes it is much more expensive to do it in the US due to much better paid engineers yet you can't say that it is humiliating. Also a direct comparison cannot be made with any NASA mission. The orbiter send on Mars was a capability tester. Meaning proving if India can send something there or not. You can't make comparisons
