They already have the battery not only under the bed but also under the cab. At 180kW, it will be the biggest battery ever put in a public EV. Four hundred miles is already overkill for what most users will be using it for. It’s also very, very strong, lightweight, and capable compared to other vehicles in its class. Sure they could have given it an 800 mile range, but then it wouldn’t be of much use as an off-road capable toy-hauler.

Hummm travel for 6 hrs then take 24 off for recharge? Until electric vehicles can be totally recharged in 15 minutes like gas vehicles, their main use will be for daily in town delivery followed by over night charge. Fast charge time is the ultimate selling point.

To be fair, maybe she doesn't even realize the notional 'game' she has going on in her mind which, presents itself in her expressions. On the other hand, maybe she's quite aware of her visual cues and leverages the nauseating behavior by playing the FUDster. Maybe I'm reading way too much into this because I understand the bigger picture in terms of this phase change in the marketplace.

Pure marketing BS! This is just a concep EV, not even a pre-production vehicle. It uses a hell of a lot of battery cells, which means production cost is way higher than any other EV. It was not even available for test drive in its presentation (so it is just alledged lab performance) . The company does not have any access to any EV charging network and has no manufacturing facilities nor experience producing anything. My guess, is that they are looking to sell their design to Tesla or any other car manufacturer. A nice dreamy concept about what the future could hold, but only that. It is not even worth to purchase the design, from an EV manufacturer´s point of view.
@Monkeyseemonkey796 жыл бұрын
Why are you so skeptical? Tesla had to start somewhere too. Rivian is retooling a former Mitsubishi plant they acquired in Illinois. Perhaps they plan to source their batteries from Tesla. Thus far they have discussed a price range of $65k-100k. The US market will eat this up if they manage to stay within that price range. With 400 miles of range, I'm not concerned about the charging network - I'll just charge it when I get home. Maybe they'll fail, but the writing is on the wall for ICE vehicles. Let's hope Rivian can succeed. I'd certainly be excited to own one of these - which isn't something I can say about any of the other electric cars currently on offer.

They really should market themselves as Telsa's little brother. they should open source patents and join supercharger network. Tesla will not be able to meet demand for decades. you just come in a say, "hey we are modeled after telsa, and we will focus on this segment." They should buy their batteries from tesla. musk would be thrilled, eventually. Tesla does not need to spend time making pickups. they need to focus on transport as a service. I am aware tesla said its coming out with a pickup, but it really has to focus on 3, Y, semi, and Energy storage. pickups are just not going to be as big in the future. we are eventually going to have serious fees on them in many states. There will be fees on personally owned cars and truck will obviously be greater since it will be a function of sale price. any fees on transport as a service will just be part of the cost. as where going to DMV to register your personally owned car is going to become expensive in several regions. we cannot afford to build the infrastructure for a transportation based on personally owned cars and its not going to be safe. This might seem ludacrous now, but 5-10 years after autonomous transport as a service is rolled out, it will make perfect sense to the majority of the public. now certain rural stated will take longer, but states with huge urban centers will see the light pretty quickly. its is LIke "hmm do we want to pay 10 billion to make this freeway have one more lane, or do we want to drastically reduce traffic, air pollution, cost of living, etc by switching to transport as a service which will actually cost us nothing at all.
@yshao16 жыл бұрын
kurt lowder I think Pickup trucks should be high on Tesla’s priority list since they are big polluters and still growing faster than ever. From what i can see it looks like these prototype trucks are a scam so they can hype their brand and license the skateboard platform to OEMs. This is where the quick cash grad would be. Ask yourself. Ahh, it's called a pandemic! This has affected many companies, not just Rivian, from supply to distribution to production and so on. Ever since Rivian did their reveal back in Nov 2018, they announced product launch in the latter half of 2020. That's a two year projection! A lot can happen in that time, but they held to it In late 2019 / early 2020 they refined that target to be Dec 2020. Shortly after the pandemic hit and Rivian shut down most of the plant construction, sent employees to work from home, etc., Rivian announced I think around May 2020 they pushed the R1 EV production launch into 2021. Later in 2020 Rivian refined that general 2021 target to the current launch dates of June 2021 for the R1T and then the R1S a couple months latter in August. So there has been only one target production launch and that was understandable due to the pandemic. You also have to keep in mind that large manufacturing companies that have numerous supply partners don't just flip a switch and say we're back to being 100% open and all time lines have been adjusted and set. They have to contact and re-coordinate, and some cases renegotiate, with their supply partners, who in turn have supply partners who were also affected by plant closures due to the pandemic, and so on. You need to look at the big picture and not just what's in front of you.

Well, I’ll never get that 5 minutes back. Was hoping to hear something about charging infrastructure. That’s the main reason people are willing to go with a Tesla - no compromises with their Supercharging network. That’s why I have a Model S. Even a 400 mile range battery pack means you can only travel 200 miles from home, at MOST. A lot less if it’s below freezing out. Or going out into the wild as this company is marketing. When are reporters going to wise up to this fact and ask that key question? The cars, meh. How are EV mftr’s going to support being able to take road trips?
