Today Trevor talks to our newest and most favorite customer Mr.Knowitall. Mr.Knowitall is on the search for a new fireplace . Trevor explains why a blower is not the most important part to a warm fireplace.
We took a look at two different fireplaces and discussed the differences. We distinguished that there are generally two different types of fireplaces. The first kind is decorative and the second is a furnace rated heater. The glass used is the biggest difference between these two types of fireplaces. The glass installed makes a huge difference in the heat gas fireplaces provide. Watch our video and learn why radiant heat is the most superior form of warmth.
What do you think Mr.Knowitall will go with??
Don’t forget if you’re in the Denver, Colorado Area visit our showroom today.

... to add, with the limited experience of the Mr KIA, he knows that a blower is needed due to the lack of heat the unit he has is not sufficient. As stated above, educating the customer would be the plus not to berate him for limited knowledge/experience. Educate and you may get a sale of proper units vs 'showcase' fireplaces where their purpose is simply ambiance vs function.

My dad used to build real fireplaces and inserts and having a blower distributed more heat throughout the living area and home. Today I have a home with a gas fireplace insert and it heats up the mantle that I have to set a fan to blow across the front of the fireplace to distribute and dissipate the heat. ..with this fan blowing across the front and my ceiling fan on the whole room is heated…so yes you do need a blower to distribute the heat .. and if you lose power you will still have a heat source and something is better than nothing in this case but the facts are, a blower will distribute the heat making heat a more effective heat source and that is obvious.

I just had to write again: Thank you so much! I am new to my heating situation: baseboard heat and a fireplace - the baseboard heat is crazy expensive - found that out the hard way! So I had to turn them off and rely only on the fireplace - I assumed the fan had to be on and...it was really getting annoying! After watching your video I found the switch to the fan - wow! what a relief AND the rooms actually feel more evenly heated now than when the fan was going all the time - this too will save on the electricity bill - yay! So, you saved a Canadian neighbor to the North from going bonkers! Aren't you glad you listened to Trevor Mr. Knowitall? I am! 😃

We just added a blower to the Heatalator in our townhouse. I should have known better. It draws air along the bottom, under the box and blows it out the top. As the rest of the house cools it just pulls that cool air into the room. We had much better heating from the fireplace with no blower and the ceiling fan in reverse.

All of these suffer because the heat clusters around the fireplace. If you want heat moved around the home, bring fresh air in from outside and run the air past the exterior of the fire box. Then crack a window in the furthest rooms. This allows heated air to move into all of the rooms and not just in the area of the fireplace furnace. For this to work well, you will probably need a blower. During the 80s, it was called an Alpine fireplace furnace. This brings fresh air in and any airborn viruses to be pushed out either thru the fire to get burnt or to be pushed out of the home thru a very small exit at remote windows. This makes for superior heat distribution rather than a purely decorative item only

Hello we have a Valor G30 and for sure it gives out a lot of heat , we did ask to have a blower with it the extra cost was apron $300.00 but they talked us out of it . I really wish I had the blower as we sit about 10 ft away and its hard to get the room above 21c we have to almost sit on top of the fireplace . I call to have a blower installed and they still say we don't need it, in the end if they do come they almost $900.00 to install a fan from Valor . I look online and there are lots of after market fans from $40 up to $120.00 . Cam you recommend a good after market fan that I could get installed . I am told they take 1 to 2 hours tops to install so the total job could be done under $300.00 . Thank you very much .

Okay. Thermodynamics insists that the more modes of heat transfer that exist the more efficient the heat transfer will be. Convection + radiant heating is significantly more efficient. Also, radiation requires thermal mass on the inside of the house to store the radiant heat. Stack some bricks or clay pots of water in front of the fireplace if you want to sell radiation as a sole heat transfer mechanism.

Burning your arm! Not safe! I have a Heatilator in a condo we bought. It was installed in 2004, we bought it in 2022. With the flame adjusted at half or lower, a probe from a cooking thermometer placed on top of the fire box, reaches over 300 degrees. Thats between the fire box and the outer shell. An Airblaze blower by A C Infinity, that installs under the box, with a dc. motor, temp. probe, and adjustible temp on-off blower speed settings, will flat run us out of a 16x30 rm. with a vaulted ceiling to the second floor with a loft above. I have more but thats enough! I think the wrong guy's wearing the clown mask

Blowers will not help with vaulted ceilings. No blower on, convection will almost stick to the wall, blower on low...comes out maybe a foot before rising, blower on high..comes out maybe two feet before rising. You're certainly not gonna feel the hot air on you more than several feet away, that would always be the radiant heat. Also, saying blowers don't give more heat is technically false, as you an measurably demonstrate a cooler wall surface with the blower on vs off, meaning you ARE transferring more heat energy into the room.

Wait so you're suggesting a $2000 unit for example without a blower, and the customer says he "needs" a blower and points to the $3000 unit that does have one and you're complaining? I would be like "sure Mr. Know-it-all, let's get you into the more expensive unit with a blower" and enjoy the higher commission without having to do any extra work.

The tempered glass is stopping efficient heat transfer but replacing the tempered with ceramic glass won't allow for more efficient heat transfer? Ahhhh. That makes zero sense.
@embersliving
@embersliving Жыл бұрын
your forgetting the key component Adam, first the tempered glass will not allow more heat without the glass breaking, so the unit is designed with a low heat out put burner. So even if you put a ceramic glass on there it won't heat more because your not getting any extra heat out of the burner, if that makes sense

I’m wondering the same thing as the guy above. What units are efficient without tempered glass that have the correct kind of burner? I need gas direct vent
@yepyep6916
@yepyep6916 Жыл бұрын
@@belindavanowen1990 This is a mechanical engineering/thermodynamics question....in a nutshell it's all about BTUs (British Thermo Units). This is a measurement of heat/energy. A burner's BTUs don't necessarily equal the fireplace appliance total BTU output (burner, ceramic logs, glass, etc), usually the burner is sized account for heat/energy losses of the total system/appliance. The more efficient the insert/appliance as a system, the more heat is transferred into the room. If you have two equal fireplaces with the same burners, logs, one with ceramic glass and the other with tempered, the insert with the tempered glass would transfer more heat/energy (or perhaps have a higher BTU rating). Or, if you have a 50,000 BTU rated burner in a system/appliance that loses 10,000 BTUs (due to heat loses) the total system would be rated 40,000 BTUs. If you have a 50,000 BTU rated burner and a system that loses 2,000 BTUs, the insert/appliance would be rated 48,000 BTUs....any mechanical engineers, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't buy anything from you all. First off most self proclaimed experts like you don't listen to what the customer wants. He told you plainly what he wanted. Plus calling him Mr. Know it all was uncalled for and you called all your customers who didn't agree with you. Sell the customer what he wants is what we've been taught in the sales and service business
