Blown Tire Shreds Side Of Camper

Sadly, this isn't all that uncommon. I had stopped to check tire pressure when I fueled up just 15 minutes before the tire came apart. Lots of bent metal, broken wiring, and destroyed fender flairs. I can't believe we traveled 8k miles just to have a tire blow only an hour and a half from home.

We blew a tire on our single axle molded fiberglass Scamp 19’ 5th wheel, on the interstate in Kansas City, KS. It blew a hole in the floor , inside a cupboard. A wonderful officer from the KS State Police pulled in behind us, engaged his emergency lights, loaned us his Jack which was better than on ours, and even insisted on changing the tire for us! What a wonderful gentleman. We finished our trip, sold the Scamp “as is”, and bought a brand new Scamp. Happy Camping!

Aww, I’m sad it’s over!! But it has been amazing for someone like me, who doesn’t live in the States, to be able to come on this journey with you guys and to see so much more of the US than I ever thought that I would be able to. So, thank you. Thank you for bringing us on this trip with the Maass family! Wow, the US sure is a beautiful place. For me, who is from a tiny country (Ireland) it really is mind blowing just how massive the US actually is. And there is so much more than what you showed us during this trip! I had that happen with a retread on my big car a long time ago. The wires from the tire came up and shredded the new sparkly paint job on my car. It was night time coming home from Sea World San Diego, CA. I am so sorry that happened to you.

Have loved following you on your travels cross country! I do have a tip for your freezer! If it still stinks, fill up a few bowels with some charcoal briquets and place them in the freezer. It may still take some time to get the smell out, but it will get rid of it!

Glad you made it safe. Get the axel alignment, wheel alignment and tire balance checked. Those are usually out of whack from the factory. And will cause such blow outs. Also a tire pressure monitoring system will catch most low pressure issues.

I thought when my tire blew on my Toyota Camry it was the end of the world. Nope I think a tire blow out on an RV would be worse. So glad Asa knows what he's doing. I'd be on the side of the road crying if I was there. Lord please make sure my future husband is mechanically inclined like Asa 🙏.

This is definitely the worst part of travel trailers. Our old fifth wheel blew 2 crossing WI and killed our fender in the last 5 miles. Just another "fun" story to laugh about later. Campers are amazing and terrible all at once. Embracing the bad makes for fun memories later. We were just freaking out this past weekend about Florida's lack of emergency lane space. Seems like everyone just ended up in the grass because it doesn't look like a car would be out of the lane if not in the grass. I would be terrified trying to do this with no room to get over. Maybe ours are bigger because of the snow getting plowed.

This happened to us once on our fifth wheel trailer. I think we were o our way to the campground and the tire blew. Tore up all the siding and might have broken that same slide out wire. That was many years ago. Now my dad has a motor home and I have a tent. Different growing up in a camper to now tent camping.

Put a dish of fresh coffee grounds in the fridge and it will absorb the smell! Trust me it works. Disclaimer do not use those grounds to brew any coffee afterwards😜🤪🤣

The moveover law only applies for stopped law enforcement, emergency, sanitation, utility service vehicles and tow trucks. It should apply for all stopped vehicles since people drive crazy here in Florida.
