I have a 2.7 TDVI Executive SWB here in Malaysia. Done the EGR and DPF delete (both physical and ECU remapping), myself, and initially had serious problems of triggering the restricted performance error and going into limp mode. Also car seems to have been slow on the the take off, before the turbo kicks in. Finally found out the problem: I was using two different online service to do the egr and dpf delete. Solved by sending the original ECU map to a SINGLE remapper for BOTH the EGR and DPF delete and stage 1 map upgrade. Happy days, no more restricted performance and the car is so much more perky. Second problem of car feeling sluggish off the blocks was due to me deciding to NOT remove the intake butterfly as instructed in the EGR delete kit. Without removing the butterfly, what essentially happens is the engine gets deprived of air (as the EGR system closes the butterfly at idle and low speeds, to create a vacuum to suck recycled air from the exhaust). If you do not remove the butterfly after your delete the EGR piping, basically the engine simply runs out of air until the butterfly opens at higher revs. Car now runs beautifully, and even with SDD, I have no fault codes. When the turbo comes in, definitely feel much more surge. Still getting 26-30 mpg mixed driving. And of course, no more worries of diesel engine oil dilution from too much incomplete DPF regenerations. And definitely less gunk will clog off your intake manifold (you wouldn't believe how thick the sludge is). One can only imagine where else the gunk goes after the intake manifold. Best to send to a professional to do the remap, but do both at the same time with the same remapper (or online remapper) to avoid scrambling and corrupting the map codes and getting into limp mode.

Used to have a 2006 X350 TDVi Sovereign. Amazing car. Replaced this with a 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE. Seriously considering going back to the big cat but with the X358. Interested by your consideration of a remap. Was wondering, would the remap be able to factor in the new EU10 diesel that is now common. If I remember rightly, my old X350 was tuned to accept the 7% biodiesel fuel but this is now only available as a premium fuel with the 10% bio content now the norm. Would a remap take this into account?

A remap can be made to accomodate and optimise for any fuel type. Its one of thhe reasons that they are so effective. The standard map has to be able to work with any commmon variants of fuel that may be used as our cruisers cross continents. Im more interested in it giving its best at sea level in Blighty

Interesting format, somewhat a la cinema verite with the night shots. By the way what "tear" (sic) are you under in Lincolnshire which allows such travel ?? Was that a TTG face mask, send my % to the usual account thanks, or, I could supply from down here as there must be a surplus sitting on the shelves. The seat profile certainly looks like a comfy armchair for long distances. Totally agree re the EGR, more trouble than they are worth & deleted ours in a TD5, smart idea to pair with an ECU upgrade, although we never encountered any 3 amigos with our Disco afterwards. The NOX, or should be NO2 for Nitrogen Oxide, is fast becoming outdated with modern diesels. Of course it smells of cigar smoke, surely you would not expect Wills Woodbines !!, the activated charcoal should help but you could also leave a bowl of bicarb powder in it overnight. Terraclean, sounds interesting although too many dodgy operators here so will stick to my injector additive rather like the old upper cylinder Redex shots habit I got into in the UK, you may be old enough to remember ? Keep safe

Im still undecided on the EGR. I want to do it and I think it will be very beneficial plus the Lion engine is a clean diesel without it. Its just a moral matter for me to wrestle with I think. e) I will try the Bicarb👍 f) I do remember the redeem shots. Thanks for watching. Stay safe buddy👍

EGR is not about re-burning the gas. A diesel engine at low RPM has a very high oxygen to fuel ratio (RPM in a diesel is controlled by fuel quantity) which causes a very hot burn. This increased heat leads to the generation of NOx. Adding exhaust gas via the EGR at low revs reduces the amount of burnable oxygen in the combustion chamber (the O2 is already burnt) and thus lowers the combustion temperature so less NOx.
@ToTheGarage4 жыл бұрын
Good explanation David👍. Thank you.

People dont like Diesel EGR systems or DPF systems as they can (and sometimes do) block up. Neither of these are issues in the previous jag engines as this was the first jag diesel. The Lion and particularly the 3.0 D that followed it are Brilliant Engines to drive, and actually reliable compared to many petrol engines. The only genuine gripe is that access, even by the standards of the V8's is poor. Its a really densely packed into that engine bay.

@ToTheGarage18 күн бұрын
At that price. Corrosion on rear suspension arms can cause a collapse. Check that there are no EGR DPF Oxygen level or flow rate related codes when you put a code reader on it. If so, the risk of a bad turbo, catalytic converter or blocked rebreather system is just too high on a car where any repairs would be more costly than the price of the car. Assuming auto. Check that there is no sign of slip in the transmission or loud clonks when engaging drive. On the plus side. They are essentially a good car with a good engine.🤞

But he can write one tailored to UK spec fuel. a narrower temperature and altitude range than Jag has to, and if I ask him nicely, he can educe some of Jags carefully calculated risk reduction factors that are very important on an £80,000 warrantied car. They are less critical to me and my £3000 car. Id never recommend any else remap a car that they still hope to bye able to complain about to the manufacturer. Hi John, that terraclean sounds like it's done a good job on the engine and for a very reasonable price, so I imagine that will a good remap and maybe an EGR-delete you would be good for over 50 mpg on long runs, plus a much cleaner runner. EGR systems are the bane of my life to be honest. I've had maybe 15-ish diesel Discoverys over a 20 yr period and all of them benefitted from an EGR delete; smoother tickover, snappier throttle response, cleaner inlet manifolds and curiously cleaner exhausts.
