Blu-ray Hunt

Hi everyone, today I pop to HMV to film the latest release and then a quick stop at Costa for a morning latte. Plus a rant over vet prices. Plus some lovely subscriber mail. I hope you enjoy the video.

I have a friend who has purchased the Godzilla box set from Criterion. What he did was put the movies in normal blu ray cases and had artwork made, and placed the huge case in storage to be looked at when the movies are being viewed. That might inspire you to get that huge set. i hope your daughters tortoise gets better and the vet enjoys the vacation he can pay for with his fees!

Hi Sir Alan,, £500 on your vet bill for your tortoise, 😱that is shocking ! "Columbo" they use to show that all the on ITV when i was a kid, popular show, I don"t think i ever got around to watching "Joe versus the volcano" that must be a first time UK release ? "Darkness of man" is one i might purchase down the road if there"s a blu ray release, that"s some release but the size of that release would put me off for that Godzilla set. THat"s a result with the slipcovers that were sent to you, "Ferrari" sounds interesting, & it being directed by Michael Mann who i"m a fan of & didn"t know about this release, thanks for sharing 👍

Hi Carlos, yeah £500 was quite a shock to say the least 🤑 yeah I used to watch Columbo when it aired in the 70’s it was something we all sat around to watch (sadly that’s something most family don’t do anymore) it is the first time on blu-ray in the UK for Joe Versus The Volcano, I already had the German release so no need for me to grab it 🧐 it’s the same for me regarding the Godzilla set….its a stupid design 🤦 Ferrari was a pretty good story and despite being based on actual events it didn’t hold back on the graphic road accident 😬 Micheal Mann is a very good director (I had the privilege of meeting him once) enjoy the rest of your week mate, take care👍😃👍

Great video Alan. Definitely good to see Jamie back. Wow that’s alot of money for the vets but always all is ok. I almost went to watch Ferrari but didn’t, so will definitely pick this one up. Very nice to receive all those slip covers, nice to see your getting them back, although still along way to go yet!😃 Really well explained on the story’s of the other pick ups as well, not sure how you remember it all. Hi Alan, The Devils brigade looks a good one, will put that on my list, just checked and its a great price. Just put Passage to Marseille on my list also, don't think i have seen that one. Gerard Butler is doing Two more Has Fallen films mate, both are listed on IMDB as well as Den of thieves 2 and a sequel to Greenland so lucky us, I still need to get Greenland, just reminded myself lol.

Another brilliantly entertaining and informative video Mr Ghost. I’ve been enjoying going through some Mubi titles of late, tempted to pick up perfect days. I know how expensive vets can be, my mums cat spent 1 night with them and for that, an X-Ray and medication it came to a cool £1000 bargain 😂.

Hi Alan. I hope the tortoise is ok. Our family had one when I was young. It loved eating tomatoes and was pretty active. No vets around though for when we had some problems….Nice you got sent all those slipcovers….I have Passage to Marseille but it’s one of about a dozen Bogart films I still need to catch up on. Hi Alan. I have the criterion Godzilla collection I agree it is far to big. I keep mine in my book collection. You are so right about Vet Bills. My Dog had to have a tumour removed from his eyelid.. £720 + £100 to check if the tumour was cancerous. 🤬🤬🤬

Hi Shaun, cool you have the Godzilla box set, I’m very jealous mate, good idea keeping it in with the books 👌 ouch, sorry to hear about your dog’s surgery but glad he/she is cancer free 👍 my dog (that recently passed away) had his eye removed years previously and that was so expensive but you will do anything for a pet, they are a part of the family. Hi Lisa, it’s been an awful summer so far, I thought we had global warming (someone should tell Brighton that 🤣) the Vet bills are extortionate, I’m not sure how they justify their prices and yeah why is it always on a Sunday out of hours or a bank holiday 🤑 he must have been given a five star stay for that price….take care Lisa 👍😃👍

Glad the tortoise is OK, I always _try_ to think of vet's bills as what humans would be paying without the NHS so just look to the US; that said our cat had to go for a *check up* each year because of a heart defect; lucky we had insurance from birth so he was covered (apart from the ludicrous excess) becase just for the ultrasound to check what was happening it was upwards of £1300 each time... then I look to the US where if a human gives birth I think the charge is about £50 just to be handed your own baby to hold! Medical prices are insane when purely private enterprise without insurance. Anyway; on with the video and yep, great to see the return of _Jamie Powell_ Look out for items to put on my Birthday List (that friends have asked for... I don't send it out like a begging letter but, like you, I have a lot of stuff and it helps minimise duplication). *Colombo* looks nice but a little pricey to get new... *Assasins Pride* looks good for my anime collection, but nobody I know 'gets' anime, plus it's insanely expensive compared to other series, so they tendnot to buy it for me... especially my wife who obviously tries to pick thngs she'll enjoy too! The *Shrek 1-4* 4K set would be great but I've collected all the Limited Edition steelbooks on release... you'd never have guessed would you! 🤣 ... and as a huge _Doctor Who_ fan the *Celestial Toymaker* steelbook has already arrived. I have the 2011 Blu-ray set of the complete *Farscape* (though with that one I think you had to get _Peacekeeper Wars_ separately... I got ot for £32 so it's gone up! *Ferrari* would have been great for the list but, being an Italian icon Italy released a 4K steelbook a while ago that I imported (they did the same with *House of Gucci* ); I *may* geat the UK 4K when I see it really cheap and put it in the steelbook case though because the Italian disc only has Italian subs and, more impotrantly, Italian Atmos but English DTS-HD MA audio whereas the UK one has English Atmos. Since I'm not Atmos capable yet though that's a long off luxury! *Darkness of Man* has a German Blu-ray release so I'll probably import that... I may even splash out on the 4K; yep UK shafted again with only a DVD. Sooooo... not a great success for the list but some I'll pick up and I got three for the list from last week's video 😀 Shame about *Tomb Raider* not getting a sequel; actually I didn't think the reboot was great as it didn't match my impression of the games _BUT_ the end seemed to indicate the sequel they were setting up would go down the route I wanted. Judging by Ben Collins' book _How To Drive: The Ultimate Guide, from the Man Who Was the Stig_ he certainly seems to claim that was the case! I'll be importing the *Devil's Brigade* from that description; again though friends tend not to be sure about importing so not for the List. *Passage to Marseille* though looks perfect! Great video and enjoy anything you're watching; we've just started the final season of *Killjoys* from my set...

Hi Justin, yes, I’ve been stung by vet bills for decades, despite having insurance they always seem to wiggle out of paying the bill 🤬 I read that they charge the mother for holding her new born child…that’s a bloody disgrace. 😮 I have a feeling my children have clubbed together to get me the Columbo set for Father’s Day 🧐 I’m sure I also read that Top Gear refuses to confirm Ben was in fact a Stig but if he has a book out claiming to be one, there’s no disputing to fact 😆 The Devils Brigade is only around £6 from Amazon Germany so worth checking. Passage To Marseille was very entertaining and what a cast 👌 I lived the rebooted Tomb-raider movie (I think the villain Walton Goggin is very underrated as an actor, hopefully his new role in Fallout bring him to the forefront) cheers mate, take care👍😃👍

I'd really like to get that Godzilla boxset by Criterion, but it's always very expensive. I would definitely like to get it one day though. Good video as usual. Picked up Doctor Who The Celestial Toymaker (surreal animation, liked it) and Mute Witness (great horror/thriller) from Brighton HMV this week as well as an import, Riddle of Fire from Vinegar Syndrome (great independent movie, highly Influenced by 80’s children’s fantasy movies that will be getting a a UK Blu Ray release in July and played at the Cannes film festival), recommended if you like something a bit different from mainstream Hollywood and filmed on 16mm film rather than digital. Film looks so much better than digital. Would like that Godzilla set, but it’s far too expensive. Much prefer the original Japanese Godzilla movies to the American modern versions. Would also like to get Farscape, but it too pricey at the moment.

Hah, good old Dr Venkman, he had a way with words. I have the original Nightmare On Elm Street and the reimagined 2010 version. Vets are not cheap unless you get insurance for the pet when you first get them . The vets will rip you off just depends on where you go

Oh, I completely understand . The vet told me that even if I had insurance for my dog, the insulin wouldn’t have been covered anyway. So I kinda dodged a bullet there.
