*Inside the guy on the far end's brain* Ok man, concentrate, part is coming up in 16 more measures. Ok, soon now, patience, almost there, loosen the arms, expand the chest, controlled breath and ***TRIPLE GEEEEEE!**** Ok, that was good, take a rest. Another 48 bars from now we have to do our part again, focus... *1.5 minutes later* ***TRIPLE GEEEEE!*** Phew, ok, that's the end of page 1, focus on our next contribution, 84 measures from now and... *3 minutes later* ***TRIPLE GGGGEEEEEE!!!!***

I think all the comments are good. My father is a top notch trumpet pro and I grew up listening to his Besson and colicio, my cousin too is a pro horn. These kids are frickin fantastic! Give them a break, yes they are 2x over the staff and it is unnecessary in symphonic, but they are more marching type anyhow, I played reed in march & symphonic, and I saw several pieces with the blue devils and they MARCH, and they can and should blow up that high, THIS IS SICK-WOW!!!!HIGH!!! There quality is very good overall, and all may not be pulling their weight, but that is why there is 1st chair 1st part 2nd chair and 3rd chair in band! Someone needs to keep rhythm and play harmonics too, not everyone has the lead part!

Some people feel the need to criticize I guess. Personally I've heard all sorts of players from world class to beginning class. This is a fine example of young people digging into their craft to achieve a higher standard for themselves. That's what its always been about. To compare them to yourself or anyone else is moot and out of place. I believe that since this an original piece, it was probably performed exactly the way the composer intended. Fine job gentleman. Haters just have to hate.

that "Garbage" player next to him is still playing like double. Compared to the "screamer" yes he probably cant play as high or loud but with out the 2nd guy over, the double c's and such wouldnt fit as well into the stacked chords. Every 5 needs a 1, so on and so forth. Think before you post.

I can tell you for a fact that the person playing all the altissimo notes is using a Bach 3D. And mouthpieces don't add notes, they change timbre and facilitate upper register playing. If you can play a double C on your peashooter, you should also be able to play double C on your bucket. If you can't, then it's likely that your approach to the instrument needs re-evaluation.

@kingrhun seem to have taken to heart. Not only all the aforementioned, but I never said it was bad music, i was merely pointing out what i found wrong with the video ( the list of things done right would have been too long ); Is that not what the comment section is for? Commenting on the video? I love screaming trumpet, or I wouldn't have been watching a Blue Devils video in the first place, and I gave these guys their props, as well as the video a like. Think before you type next time.

@pvtcairns Hmmm...I guess it's different for different people. I find it easier to build musicality than to build range, honestly. For musicality, I just work on stuff (i.e, intonation, tone, hard licks, etc.) over and over again until I'm satisfied. It's all about rinsing and repeating. For me anyway. Range takes a while longer for me. It takes so much more different aspects of practicing. (Lip muscles, air speed, air support, etc.) There are more musicality people than screamers out there IMO.

Why couldn't they have "screamed" like this during their show? I was more impressed with Crown's tuumpet section wailing...from their knees. Hence their 1st in brass; BD's 2nd. Guess the blame needs to lie on the corps directors. Need better section next year to highlight these guys. Congrats BD's on your 99.

@asmcriminaL I mean sometimes in here the high notes do sound a bit bad, but yet listen to Maynard Ferguson. He was really well known in the jazz world, known for his chops, still made it sound musical. And BD (by what I know, base their shows off jazz). just listen to that and make a comparrison.

I play on a Stork LX4 and I have the same range I do on my 3C. It's just easier for me to play in the upper register with the Stork. I have a bigger/fuller sound with that mouthpiece as opposed to the 3C. So no, changing mouthpieces does NOT give you a higher range. It's all about air.

i dont know vic, but i have played with bd, in 99 and 2000, was lead... played next to jeff lynn at clayton valley in 2000. i know a thing or 2 about playing trumpet, i have seen players with great range, but crappy technical skills, and crappy tone quality, in staff, and above stuff, but sound great in the double octave range. like mark van cleave says... "high notes are part of the music business, not the trumpet business" meaning the ultimate goal is to make music, not to play high
