BLUE LIGHT GLASSES (how do they work?) | Optometrist Explains
Blue light glasses, filters and blue light in general are interesting. Other topics regarding blue light include gamer glasses.
Blue light glasses work by reflecting about 8-10% of visible blue light, ultimately letting about 90-92% through.

Sound more like glasses with wrong strength or wrong focal point. If she got new lenses or glasses maybe they didn’t mess up this time.

Very high-quality video, it definitely deserves more views. I'm struggling with this decision at the moment, I kind of like the way the world looks through the blue light filter but the blue glare that comes off the lens looks very silly in my opinion. It's a matter of deciding whether the stupid look is worth the added health benefits in my case and this video helped enhance my understanding the matter greatly. Thank you.

I've heard that the amount of blue light your eye is exposed during daylight is much much more then the amount of blue light from led screens. 30 minutes walking on a summer day in Berlin would be the same like an 8 hours job in the office behind a screen. If this is true (you can measure it with a spectrometer) my question is: why is the blue light coating only referred to people working with digital devices/screens if the effect would be much greater for people working in pure daylight like builders, postman, etc.? I think it's a marketing tool from the glass industry. But as you mentioned..we need more studies.

Good point, I guess it’s catered towards those that use screens beyond the point of when ‘normal’ amounts of blue are present, such as later into the night etc. for people that spend most of their time outdoors, they probably won’t be exposed to too much blue after their normal work hours and besides, there are sunglasses that block out much more of the visible spectrum than just blue light glasses

blue light/UV camera filters existed in the 60s and they do altered effects on film photography. And good anti blue light lenses do work too-by blocking or reflecting the light source image. The UV from video screens can be reduced to delay cataracts. Anti blue light eyeglasses without grade is available at popular Asian online shopping and is cheap.

I don’t think 10% of blue light reduction is significant. But you can only verify through control testing. Good video and congrats on zero unlikes so far lol

Do you think you could do a video about what times would be great for setting up the blue light/warmer color schemes for people that have sleep disorders? I personally sleep during the day because my of one of my sleep disorders & chronic migraines. I've thought about trying this but I wasn't sure if I just keep it blue through out my day (7pm+) or will that mess with my sense of colors since I'll only be exposed to the blue light minus 2hours of sunlight?

I want to clarify I don't want to stay awake during the day because it causes me more health issues but I do love that you added how to help filter it out if your having troubles sleeping at night. I hope to try an implement that into the days I have to be up during the day. Maybe it will help the brainfog with DSPD

Sometimes it feels like people really believe that there is some special magical blue light filter, but in reality, it's just slightly red or orange glass, nothing special. It can make world better looking, but I prefer to see real colors, especially when I process photos, you can always lower your blue value on your screen, it's that simple, you don't need some special glasses. "Anti blue light glasses" are just scam. Also, when you have glasses with blue light filter, it's such a mild effect that you barely see the difference. I actually see colors slightly differently with each eye, one eye has more warm colors, so I think about asking optimetrist if I could have blue filter just in one eye to compensate that, that would be cool

Great video! I actually have a question. My vision is 20/20, i’ve checked recently to an ophthalmologist. My eye strain is really bad these days. I’m guessing its because i spend too much time working in front of my computer - i must say my upcoming college schedule will cause a significant increase in my screen time. Therefore, I’m trying to find an alternative that can help decrease the ‘workload’. For a person who does not need an eye correction, do you recommend getting blue light glasses? Or maybe a transition glasses (since my desk is literally next to huge windows). Thanks

I would probably stick to using some eye drops to lubricate the eyes while you are on the computer because blink rate diminishes. And taking time to look into the distance to relax your accommodation after hours of reading

Antonio, Do contacts have a blue light filter? I am in front of two large desk top screens all day at work, my eyes feel fatigued after about 4 hours of work. I am currently in the process of switching over to contacts - I am picking up my trail contacts tomorrow for the Multifocal and the Monovision contacts. I have tried the distance and find I really like the Acuvue Oasys (which are slightly tinted blue) 1-day. So I will most likely stick with those and either Multifocal or Mono depending on which ones I like better for work. I have a friend who LOVES the monovision and a friend (her sister) who loves the Multifocal.

Yeah there are some that swear by mono vision and some that swear by multifocals 😂 and I don’t believe CLs have a blue light filter, not the ones I’ve come across anyway

I just found out this video accidentally 😱 i got so many ads about how good blue light filter eyeglasses are. Then i wonder with blue light filter on smartphones nowadays. Is it work the same too? 🧐 i feel like my eyes not tired much than i didn't use that filter on my phones. Or it's just like a placebo effect? 😰 auto subscribe ur channel cause u upload so many informative videos

Thanks Seungho! Blue light filters can make things look more ‘yellow’ and therefore some argue that it increases contrast making it ‘easier’ on the eyes. So it could be that !

I haven't seen any change in my sleep pattern, but I do get horrible headaches. I am a teacher and I'm on my computer and cell phone from 8 am to 2pm the entire time and on and off from there after. Do you think the blue light blocking glasses help with that? What are the best?

I have no numbers to back this up but I feel like the "night shift" feature on most devices are far more effective than glasses, although they obviously won't do anything for extraneous sources.

My daughter got blue light glasses for her migraines and it has been a life saver. She has had migraines since she was about 12 and was a competitive ice skater - the light reflective off the ice is what is now believed to start the head aches - She was on the ice for 8 - 10 hours a day from the time she was 12. I had no idea at the time that it was causing her migraines - she thought is was a food allergy (blueberries). When she was 16 I took her to a Hockey game - she loved any sport that was done on the ice - was less then an hour into the game and she got a massive migraine - this should have been a clue to me . . . they say hindsight is 20/20.

From personal experience people think blue light is harmful to the eyes, and blue light blockers will help reduce the risk of having future eye problems. Good vid for those people.
