Blue Mountains in the Mist --- Experimenting with the Olympus PEN E-P3 video

Wandering the bushwalking (hiking) trails of the Blue Mountains near Katoomba outside of Sydney to clear my head of the "rat race" stress of the big-smoke, for a short walkabout in the bush. I took with me my Olympus PEN E-P3 which I was mainly shooting video, my Pentax Q for stills and my iPhone for whatever pretty stuff I wanted to share with friends on twitter while I wandered.
I spent seven hours wandering and shooting on the muddy mountains and valleys, exhausting but quite rewarding.

The Blue Mountains are named so for the blue tinge the range takes on when viewed from a distance. They say Volatile oils from the vast forests of eucalyptus trees in the Blue Mountains is cause of the light scattering effect that causes the blue haze
Consisting mainly of a sandstone plateau, the area is dissected by gorges up to 760 meters deep. The highest point of the range is Mount Werong at 1,215 meters above sea level

Lovely footage Blunty. The EP3 has done well at capturing the Blue Mountains, but it's your skill that makes it all work so wonderfully. As an aside, the best thing about Olympus' incessant EP series upgrading policy is that it makes last years' model much cheaper. I've sourced a brand new EPL3 on sale at a third of the price when new and am now going to upgrade my XZ-1!

The bagpipes in this video reminded me of the second time I went camping in the Blue Mountains. At about 9 o'clock someone just took out a bagpipe and started playing, at the end of it there was applause from everyone. It's something that I think the Blue Mountains brings out in you.

I think having fog or mist around really does make this place look better, or at least different in a good way. I was up there a while ago with some Canadian friends. When we got to Echo Point, there was fog everywhere, but fortunately it cleared later, allowing for some awesome shots of the valley.
