Blue Oyster Crank It Up! Other BOC songs to check out? "Godzilla", "Burnin' For You", "Astronomy", "Subhuman", "Joan Crawford", "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" and more. If you've never heard "Don't Fear The Reaper" before then maybe you also haven't seen John Carpenter's "Halloween" from 1978 -- the slasher film so good for its time that it spawned a franchise that lasts to this day. This song features in that film, so check out that too when you can. And if you're down for getting to the bottom of the cult and its wicked sense of humor, check out "Flaming Telepaths" off their "Secret Treaties" album.

"Is that it?" You ain't heard nothing yet! Brilliant song (even without cowbell). New Zealand band The Mutton Birds did a good cover of it, too. Sadly, Blue Oyster Cult is too little know these days - but their mix of heavy rock, strong melody, and lovely harmonies is excellent. If you want to hear more, try "Veteran of the Psychic Wars", "Vera Gemini", "Great Sun Jester", or "In Thee".

Back when there were stereo systems people owned, there was sometimes a volume level meter, either an analog needle or LED lights. The normal top end volume before distortion would have a ZERO on the needle, or all green lights for the LEDs. Above that point, the needle could go farther, and there were a few red LEDs to indicate over loaded volume. This song is the only one I ever saw that would either PEG the needle all the way or light all the RED LEDs. And it never got distorted.
