Fun fact for those who don't know: the reason why there are two hills on the ride that are abnormally tall is because the ride was constructed over the park's short-lived Monorail. You can see a small open pathway built under the two hills that is no longer in use, as the Monorail was demolished only a few years after Blue Streak opened.

Good to know the wood has held up over the years. I'm always curious how much of the wood is original on older woodies, with the obvious understanding that most of the track is not. If the bents weren't majority original the path wouldn't be there.

I love Blue Streak. It's a great looking coaster, and it's a fun throwback of what roller coasters used to be. It's also a good staple to have in the park - something constant, as so much changes over the years. I would like to see them make some modifications to the cars. Some have suggested getting some GCI-type trains for the ride, but I wouldn't want to run non-PTC trains on a historic PTC roller coaster. I would like to see Cedar Point commission a pair of trains that keep the seatbelts, eliminate the individual lap bars, restore the buzz bar, and eliminate that pesky individual seat divider. I think dispatch times would greatly improve, and the individual seat belts would maintain that additional layer of safety modern coaster rides like. The ride does have enough pop to potentially launch a kid big enough to ride the ride, but on the smaller end, dangerously out of their seat, so I wouldn't feel comfortable getting rid of seatbelts.

Great interview on the Blue Streak, but in one area I have to diagree on, and that is the speed of the Trains. Here's why. I've been riding Blue Streak since 1968, which also was my 1st Rollercoaster experience at age 9. Now Cedar Point advertieses Blue Streak with a max speed of 40mph. But with all of the changes done starting in 1994 from the operating systems to the Trains espically, a lot of additional weight was added. The Steel Brake Fins under each car of the Trains, The Rubber Seatbacks, and the Racheting Lap Bars that are heavier than the Buzz Lap Bars once used. The weight of the Trains increased so much, the Trains would bounce excessivly from the track bending too much. Park Carpenter and Mainteance crews had to anchor additional wood between the main Track Ledgers to add more strengh from the added weight to the Trains. By adding the extra wood, this actually made for a smoother ride experience, but made the Airtime more ejector like. This is why some people claim that the Blue Streak is rough. Bottom line, with the added wood between the Track Ledgers to reduce Train bouncing, and increased Train weight will allow the Trains to travel faster than 40mph, and the Seat Dividers serves two porposes. One, is to prevent riders from switching sides of the seats while the Trains are in motion, and Two, to keep riders from sliding into each other as the Trains travel the Turn Around. Like I've said, I've been riding the Blue Streak since 1968, and have never felt that much speed generated through the Turn Around. Before retiring, I knew someone who worked as Vice President of Ride Mainteance and did tell me that the Blue Streak Trains are now traveling faster than 40mph. Have you ever seen an empty Millennium Force Train cycle, without the Water Dummies? When a completly empty Train travels through the Magnetic Brakes at the end of the circut, By the time the Trains return to the Unloading Station, Santa Claus would have came and went. But when the Train is fully loaded with riders, it travels through the Magnetic Brakes in nothing flat before slowing down to a stop. Just like in Physics, more weight on a Coaster Train means more speed. This means the Blue Streak Trains are traveling faster with the added weight, and add the riders also.🎢

Thanks for the info! That's interesting the ride sped up with the heavier trains and weight.
