Blue Swede who made this version is the first Swedish group/artist who made it to number one on Billboards HOT100. The Singer Björn Skifs is now 71, but still going strong here in Sweden 😀

The lead singer of the Tokens was a lead singer of a big tribute band in Mesa Arizona for I don’t know how long but he passed away of a heart attack while on stage in late 2018!!

@@erkjan yeah, I think so. Beefing up the instrumental track with horns like that was a really good choice, along with turning the bass up in the mix. And on the the song, the singer is more suited to the song. Not a trace of accent.

YES! I was in high school and all of my friends watched The Midnight Special every week. None of us knew that Redbone comprised of all Native Americans until that show and we were blown away! I recently watched that segment again and it is still great.

Kimberly Caldwell the cheesy stuff from the 70s is more than 60 times better than the crap nowadays! There is good smart music out there, but the ones u hear on the radio have NO talent whatsoever and will never amount to the One hit wonders of the 70s!! Not Nicki, Not Rihanna, not Gaga or Perry or Swift!! None of it! ok maybe a few people are ok! I do like John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Fitz, and some Jason Mraz

The original version, by B.J. Thomas, came out in the '70's, when I was in high school. It was the first song I ever got up the nerve to sing in karaoke. Well, sort of. When I got up to sing, there was a mix up and the Blue Swede version started playing! I'm sure you can imagine my surprise and embarrassment! It's a wonder I ever sang again!

The first time I ever heard this I was in a car coming home from an away hockey game. It came on and we all assumed it was a joke from some crazy DJ or college radio station. Then it turned into a huge hit. One of my favorites to this day it brings me back to a car ride when I was a boy.

This was on the radio between 1974,nd I was 20,and working st a nightclub in LA where they played. It was The Starwood. I spent the night with the singer,Bjorn Skiffs. He didnt speak English,and I didnt speak Swedish. Didnt matter at all. It was one fine night,and we only had an interpreter for short while. ;}

This song was originally released by B.J. Thomas in 1968. It was then covered by Blue Suede in 1974, I think, who added the "Unga chaka", for some reason I think that "unga chaka" was sampled from another song, but I can't recall which one. Besides Guardians of the Galaxy, this song was also used in Allie McBeal, when she was being chased around by a digital dancing baby who kept dancing to the "Unga Chaka" reprise. Eventually, one of her friends said basically that it's her "inner clock" telling her to get on with life, but until then, stop running away and just dance with the baby! Which she did and it kind of brought this song back into prominence.

Yeah that does bring back some memories right back at 14 years old swimming in a really a pawn which was made into a swimming pool and that's how it always started out. Got everybody fired up around the pool. It was awesome on how it changes everybody attitude around the pool. I was looking forward to that first of the song loved it.

The reason a lot of these older songs are pretty short is because they had to be able to fit on a 45 record. The song was played in the movie but it didn't originate there.

Great song!!! The uga chuga dancing baby song from the nineties is what a lot of people should remember. Then *Guardians Of The Galaxy* had it after the *Ally McBeal* show had it featured for the *Dancing Baby* I was lucky enough to grow up on the *BJ Thomas* version as well as the *Blue Swede* version in the 70's *BJ Thomas* definitely had more hits *Rain Drops Keep Fallin' On My Head*, *Another Somebody Did Somebody Wrong Song* and *I'm So Lonesome I Cry* just to name a few. This song is very nostalgic for me. This came out when I was 11 and living in L.A. at the time. A friend, Debbie, who was 13 at the time. She was nuts at the time. She committed suicide at 13, and this song always reminded of her, and a traumatic time in my young life. Still, since I'm a nostalgic creature, I love hearing it.

Yes, yes, I know. This is a cover and was first recorded by BJ Thomas and he sang it beautifully (truly). I don't care. This version is more fun and came out when I was a teenager and it was all over the radio (that would be AM radio for you non-Baby Boomers) and everyone went crazy every time we heard it. We thought they were singing "ooga-chakka". Anyway, it still makes me smile. Blue Swede was a One Hit Wonder. Ty, you are wonderful and just so darn cute.
