The first time I ever listened to Blue Oyster Cult was back in the late 80's. I had gotten their Club Ninja album on cassette tape for $2 from Camelot Music store. I was barely 10 years old and I was really getting into Hard Rock/Heavy Metal music big time. I loved the Club Ninja album big time on my first listen. All these years later I still do. It has great songs like White Flags, Shadow Warrior, Spy In The House Of The Night, When The War Comes, Perfect Water, and Madness To The Method. I also still love Make Rock Not War and Beat Em Up even though they both have not aged well at all. I do know that Club Ninja is considered Blue Oyster Cult's weakest album, but I have always loved it and still do. White Flags and Shadow Warrior are some of my favorite songs ever from Blue Oyster Cult. If this show was ever released on CD I would definitely get it.

Man, "Shadow Warrior" just burns at this show!! I saw them at Santa Monica and Valencia at Magic Mountain in 86. They jammed and their "new" material was terrific live .

Club Ninja is a solid album although it wasn't a commercial success. I definitely enjoy owning it!

Not Sure why people hate on club ninja so much. It was a record of the times. Solid poppy 80's hard rock. My guess is so many BOC fans from the 70's couldn't accept the change. However that's what I love about BOC. Every record is a little different.

I still remember taping this concert off the radio as it was broadcasting live on WMMR. My favorite Live Band. This concert has the best version of Dominance and Submission I have heard them play, as well as Joan Crawford. Thanks for posting this show.

Sad with a picture from 1980 gracing the Ninja Period when they looked completely different from the late 70s Image ... and also... for that Show it was the Two Öyster Cult. Joe had left in February on returning from their European Tour of that year and was replaced by Jon Rogers.

Yeah, I saw the band live at the Monsters of Rock Festival in Kaiserslautern 1983. I remember Godzilla very well.

I have to admit I didn't take too well to Club Ninja at first, but eventually I took quite a shine to it. It's a pretty good album. White Flags really stands out as their best in the 1980s.

Club ninja had some of the best and worst songs. Perfect Water, the spy in the House of The night, as Good as it gets. Make rock not war, not so much.

Beat em Up is my favorite track. Reminds me of closing credits to an action movie.

The song Beat em up should beat itself up! The incredible songs these guys had, makes it hard to fathom that abomination

It's in their all time bottom 3 songs for sure .. that was the reality of losing Albert, some outside writers .. although to me Dancin in the Ruins is excellent & White Flags is pretty good ...

@@stevenwilkinson1265 I would guess the other two would have to be "let go" and possibly "make rock not war"!? Haha! I feel the same about Club Ninja. Perfect Water is an outstanding song as well.

@@stevenwilkinson1265 True enough, one doesn't replace a force like Al Bouchard...ever. For me though, CN really fell short (despite some great songs) due to the lack of Allen Lanier. The talented, but radically different keys on Ninja just didn't work well in the end. In many ways CN felt the loss far more keenly than TRbN. I enjoy all BÖC, but this was a difficult time. Well we got Allen back, but lost Joe Bouchard. At least we eventually had the X Bros. and Blue Coupe from the Bouchard's. On the up side, Buck was on fire in the 80s and Eric's at his peak!

I pretty like club ninja, I remember when it came out I was a little disappointed at first because it was different from the seventies albums. But there are great songs like perfect water dancing in the ruins shadow warrior and white flags.

Written by some guy band Bob or Bill Halligan. He also wrote Judas Priest's "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll". Apparently he was really into cringe metal. Lee Aaron did a much better version. I feel like she actually sold those stupid words, somehow.
