My partner recently accidentally let both of my cockatiels out while we were on vacation.I was instantly able to recall my male mid flight and put him back into the carrier. My female was so spooked she flew extremely high, I followed her from tree to tree for 3 days from sun up to sun down. She is recall trained and made multiple attempts to get back to me but unfortunately she got out during an extremely windy week. My poor baby is still gone, the group of free flyers I work with tell me to keep up hope and that birds are discovered to be found months after being lost but it’s pretty hard to keep hope. It’s been heartbreaking.

OMG 50 years ago I a Blueberry twin, I did not know about recall but I was doing it. I could call him from different rooms in the house, he had a way to call me back, something looking like my name which my dad did hate at 5 a.m. :( One day IT happened, in a big city, I was sure to have lost him there were many trees around. After many attempts, I kind of gave up, then, my neighbor came to tell me that my bird was in her backward calling me!!! If you have a budgie practice recall. Nice job Jamie, I am so glad you have Blue back.

I got home from work one day and couldn’t find my budgie anywhere. Someone had come in and left his cage open and my bedroom door open. I didn’t know where he’d be or how long he was gone for I just saw a window open in the kitchen facing a thick forest/bush area and started looking there. For the next 2 days I went out there morning till dark looking for him with a speaker blaring budgie contact call noises. On the second evening I started hearing him replying to the speakers and managed to spot him 2 stories up a tree. We had a great bond (he was probably starving too) so when he spotted me he instantly tried to fly down and got swept to the neighbours yard. This happened 3 times till eventually he landed in a tree I could actually climb. Im terrified of heights but I did it to get my little guy. Every single day from the next day I’ve done at least a couple minutes of recall and upping the difficulty of flight training (descending, ascending, turning corners, boomerangs, everything I can think of) also have built an aviary so he can get some wind practice. This all should of happened long ago before the accident, I’m ALWAYS so incredibly careful but I have learnt when you live with other people it doesn’t matter how careful you are anything can happen. Glad your little blue is safe. It’s so scary, I was literally balling my eyes out searching for him in the bush.

I was gutted when I lost my young budgie bertie, he managed like blueberry to squeeze through a small cracked window, sadly I had only had him a month and I've never seen him again. I still have two budgies, and have never let anything happen to them from the lesson learned. I'll never stop hoping bertie somehow landed somewhere safe, despite all my efforts to find him- and that someone else had the joy of his company

My green cheek was the best thing that could have ever happened. Such a perfect bird. We are still working on recall. He doesn't fly as much as I'd like him to and tends to walk everywhere. He was clipped when I got him almost 2 years ago. And he still is nervous to fly as much.

@@FeatheredFlock so I live in an apartment so he can't really fly outside directly. He has charged the door but he would have to make it through 3 doors (our house door, the staircase door and the door to outside) to make it outside flying. He cannot be on the floor because I have cats and a crawling baby. So he needs to fly from perch to perch instead of walk. He's making really good progress through. He's a bit stubborn and set in his ways.

If it wasnt for you guys and stressing recall I'd never have gotten my bird back the first time, he stayed in a tree for litterally 24 hours we couldn't find him until I heard his flock call and used it to to flow him he did what Blueberry did by flying by me. I wanted to cry! But then he was starved and decided mommy's hand and millet was a lot better. The second time was all my fault I walked out the door and didnt know he was on my shoulder but I got him within 20 minutes that time, it was dusk and he got scared by our barn cat so he flew right to me. Now we call SCUTTLE IS OUT! before we open the door, my mom makes sure I got eyes on him or hes with me before she opens the door and I always cage him before I go out the door just to be sure. And I agree it's the worst minutes of your life! I wasnt even that worried when my dogs get out of the yard haha

Firstly most importantly I am glad your Budgie Blueberry is safe again . The videos with Blueberry have made me think I can have a pet in my first floor one bedroom flat. Thank you for showing this video because it now has made something to consider with making my first floor one bed flat, bird friendly. My flat when I bought it had the doors between living room, front door and kitchen taken out to create more space by the previous owners and I never replaced them I am going to have to find a solution to create a quick but solid barrier so my pet bird. If get one does not fly out when I answer the door. I really would like a pet and I don't think it is fair to keep a cat or a dog cooped up in a flat for 10-11 hours in a day while I go to work I also don't want a fish tank I want a pet I can interact with too. But then I saw your videos and a few of other peoples and saw Budgies are really cool fun and interactive little pets and I thought. That might be the perfect pet for me. So I am doing my research first. While doing it I am going to implement as much as I can into my flat to make it not only space saving still but bird friendly. This might take years. But at least if you plan to have a pet companion you can spend years enjoying researching how to care for them and what safe environment they need first. I won't rush into this but thank you again for all your videos I love them :)

@juliusroman8616
@juliusroman8616 3 жыл бұрын
@@VietCakes It's much better to teach a bird to fly because it has the skills to come back. If you clip a bird and it gets outside, it can still fly with a gust of wind. If you don't clip your bird, you teach it to fly to your hand, on command, on the first call of its name, which is recall, if you desensitize it to the outdoors by harness training them, if you teach it to descend and ascend from great heights, and to curve, it would be so much easier, less stressful, and more likely for you to get your bird back.

I love Blueberry the most too! You love her like I loved my Char Char, can't believe how people sleep on budgies. Truly the cutest little peepers and most awesome pet of all. When they love you they exude love and happiness the moment you enter the room. Thank God she's ok. We found Char Char at a golf course so she had escaped someone in Florida. When you have a close call with a budgie everything flashes before your eyes because they are so tiny and somewhat delicate that you are always fearing the worst will happen to them, because they are little stinkers who get up to trouble due to how playful and curious they are.

Jocke looked just like Blueberrie. When I adopted him, he was just a scared little bird, but with just a little human contact he became the funniest little bird. He became a part of the family and just flew freely in our home. His favorite thing was hide and seek and walking around on the floor like that is what birds are normally doing.. Always on the shoulder of someone. One day. heavy winds, really a big storm, my mom had him on the shoulder and he could not hold on. She was devastated and we could not find him. A couple of years later, we learned that a budgie was found outside the window of the chidrens hospital in our city. They took him in and that is where he stayed for the rest of huis life. The stories from the hospital about him are heartwarming. He was a joy for many kids. This is a story from Sweden and 60 years ago. I love those little birds. Jocke was really unique.

That happened to me last week, my 8 month old Quaker parrot got out, we live on a lake in Florida with some huge cypress trees, well Poncho decided to fly to the tallest tree about 80 foot up. I was amazed at how fast that little shit could fly but also scared, the lake we live on is a bird sanctuary and is inhabited by Osprey Hawks, Kite Hawks, Red Tail Hawks, and Bald Eagles. All I could think about is one of those Hawks seeing this little parrot as a quick meal. Thank god we have been working on recall training, he's not very responsive to verbal commands but does respond to a police whistle, I blew the whistle and he flew towards me but landed on our house roof about 10 feet away, and then he said "I'm a pretty boy" and starts laughing. My girlfriend grab some millet from the house and when Poncho saw that he flew right to her arm. That was scary but a good learning curve of how important it is to train your birds in recalling them. These Quaker parrots are incredibly smart, Poncho followed our Border Collie through the doggy door to stretch his wings....

Years ago I had the coolest aviary outside that I had 2 budgies in. 2 budgies became 10. I had no intention of breeding them. Didn't even do anything special to make that possible. It just happened. There was a separate enclosure for my finches. I can attest to how quickly they move. We had 2 doors in n out. Thank goodness because there were a couple times that they got into the entry/exit. I know that panic that washes over you. 😲 I hope to one day recreate that aviary. It was during the time that my chronic health issues started. I had a chair in there and I have such fond memories of just hanging out with them. It was definitely my happy place. I'm so glad you had a positive outcome Jami. 💙 Budgies are such quick little buggers.

Had parakeets most of my life. Never had one make it outside but this is so true on training your birds like this. My current bird is a rescued ringneck dove. I discovered her in a hotel parking lot. I wasn't familiar with doves but she seemed like a pet rather then a wild bird. We had parakeets that would come when called so I thought why not try. I snapped my finger and heald them out and she came straight to me out of a tree. We had a parakeet we were traveling with so my mom went and got his food to give her as she was attacking my mouth for food. After eatting she flew away and disappeared. Next day I decided if I saw her again I would take her. She was with a flock of sparrows when I came out and they flew away but she went to a brick wall. She saw me walking to her and I heald out my hand and she came straight to me again. She happily went inside with me. No one reported her missing so ten years later she is happy and healthy after traveling back and forth from AL to NY countless times and has done a bit of camping in a tent. I don't know who taught her to come when called but it saved her life.

My cockatiel got out a month ago. I kept so calm it seemed like I wanted it to happen. Everyone thought I didn't wanna get him back because of how I was acting. It's because I have bad anxiety and I have panic attacks If I started crying or freaking out I would literally have a bad Panic attack. Then I wouldn't be able to help look for him. He was gone 3-4 days. The day after he got out someone found him a few blocks down hiding in a tree. Then On the 3rd day we found a Facebook post of him someone found him! So we went and got him the next morning

Last year our budgie got loose on our street. We had him in our sights for awhile but he took one more flight and disappeared. We posted his picture on a few lost pets sites as a last effort. 4 days later, we got a call that he had been found 35 km away in another city and was brought in to a shelter. In those 4 days there was a major thunderstorm as well. I drove out to the shelter and got him home safely. Nobody thought we would ever get him back and I know he had been through a lot because he was very quiet for days after. But to add to this woman's point, we did teach him how to forage for food in the house and we believe that skill helped him to survive in that time. He knew how to look for food. As such, I highly recommend that you teach your bird the same thing just in case he ever gets out.

Wow, we haven’t recalled trained our Budgie, we get her excited to come to us but it’s 50/50. Her wings aren’t clipped because honestly if god forbid something happened she would be able to fly away during an emergency. But we definitely need to start training her with this!!

A few months ago my lutino tiel flew out of the garage! We chased him down the street and he flew into the neighbors yard. Fortunately the neighbors let us in their backyard as soon as we told them what was happening! I am so thankful that we found him and that my little baby is safe.

That must of been frightening. It happened to me and I never told anyone. My Lovebird Sprinkles got out. It was terrifying. I always here that you should stay calm, not me as I was hysterical, I couldn't help it. He flew out the door and I ran out and was calling him and hoping he did not go far. I ran back in to get millet spray. I called him and he came back and landed on my head and then I had a meltdown. So many things went through my head in the few minutes that he was out. So yes it can happen to anyone and I am extra cautious and it still happened. Glad I could share my story, I feel better now.

This is exactly why all pet birds regardless of everything a bit if recall and desensitisation training can take the place of clipping, ..it's vip it's what I keep telling the members of my free flight fb group ..Irish flyers (Parrot) ..if anyone is intrested in free flight in Ireland. .but you don't have to be from Ireland your welcome to join its a little group ...exactly what I keep saying ..over n over and will keep saying till there's no more clipped birds left in the world..OK that might be a distant dream but a girl can hope..

youre right! i made the choice to clip my first bird’s wings because she was a baby cockatiel and hurt herself by flying into the wall repeatedly. i got her a couple months ago, and since she wasn’t tame, it also helped that she couldn’t fly away from me whenever i walked over. that being said, her wings will never be trimmed again. i got a one year old (fully tame) cockatiel w/o clipped wings a few weeks ago and im so excited for my first baby to grow her feathers back (:

After having an incident where my Goffin flew off and was lost for 40 minutes- I definitely understand that it felt like eternity! 🤯I'm so grateful for all my family and friends that were willing to help, but thankfully my mom heard Cheeky's blender noises. She somehow got to the middle of a bush and was so terrified she just hid. I got a lot of nasty fear bites digging her out of the bush. Working on recall and desensitization training, but man does Cheeky bite first and ask questions later during hormone season. 😬😭 The comment of when vs if your bird gets out terrifys me. I'm the worst trainer, both my birds won't listen. 😫💔

One of our Budgies got out and was out for two super windy days before we got a report on a Facebook post from the neighbouring village that she was in someone’s garden (apparently she had been hanging out with the finches in the trees and bushes)! We went and had a stake-out to try and coax her down (she is not recall trained and lives in an aviary). To do this we took her partner and recently fledged chick to call her down - they were in a small travel cage inside of a larger cage and she came down to them after about 3-4 hours of us being there and we put the lid on the cage with her inside (well, it did take 2 failed attempts before we captured her) but we got her home safely thank god!

We had a similar (but no where near extreme) situation a few months back, my blue budgie Sydney escaped her cage and flew to an open window, (it was one of the ones that opens horizontally) and she hung upside down off the window frame, frozen, after around 30 seconds she flew back into our house, because of a sudden gust.

In 1953, when I was 8 years old, I was staying with my grandparents. My grandmother had a green Budgie. We didn't call it a Budgie then it was just a parakeet. A very important parakeet. It was a beautiful spring afternoon and somehow that bird flew out the back kitchen door. My grandmother opened the door just a little bit and off it went. It flew into a big tree on the edge of the property. We could see it there just about the same as you could see it in this video. It flitted around a bit then off it went; never to be seen again. It was family. My grandma looked and looked for that bird for days and she never forgot it. It has been about 68 years and I have never forgotten it either. I can still see that little parakeet up in the tree...and then gone. I still get a bad feeling about it. It is probably one reason I watch these "Budgie" videos :-)

Yikes. Sadly I've experienced an escaped bird who also was budgie. I live in an apartment block on 12th storey so when I got down there was no trace of the bird =( and yeah when you get panicked you get so much adrenaline everything seems like in slow-motion. Stress affects your time prespective greatly.

My evening routine is simple, bird in cage, close cage, open kitchen window for some fresh air during the night. The morning after when I walked into the kitchen I realized I forgot on critical step of my evening routine because both of my Kakarikis where sitting on the window frame looking outside... Ooh crap indeed... Luckily they knew that when they see me in the morning it means breakfast so they lost interest for the evil outside. Close call, just imagine when I'd stepped out of bed half an hour later 😰
