@@TheAnnoyingBoss like a battlefield type of game with graphics and destruction but on a massive scale
@DerSchleier
@DerSchleier Жыл бұрын
@@TheAnnoyingBoss For its first two or three years, World War II Online had tens of thousands fighting it out along the length of the frontline. By land, air, and sea... organized squads battle. German faction was so organized... CRS had to code the game to counter their large scale organization. This killed off the German player population and likely the game itself. Par exemplar, German squads alone fielded 300+ players on organized operations. German faction had several large 300+ squads back then. Windhund, 31st Wrecking Crew, Sturmgrenadier, and more. Good times were had.

I think the reason it worked was it was built in a very simple way even with it being so big. Look at the graphics, very minimal detail on the environment and guns and everything. If they migrate the game to UE5. I have a feeling optimization will be a problem. You're going to need a really beefy set up to play this at 60-120 fps consistently.

@@kivic8661 Nanite has nothing to do with the server's performance. All the server needs to worry about is collision data, and where each player, and the end of their respective weapon is. UE5's world tiling will sort out your client's FPS issues though, only loading bits it needs, think Minecraft's chunks. And Nanite would definitely help if they want ultra realistic models. You can go buckwild with that thing and take a 3m poly model and drop it to 4 if you really want; gonna look like shit, but it'll run at 1000s of FPS. Overall, this challenge is far from insurmountable. It should actually be pretty straight forward and somewhat trivial for a group of people familiar with UE.

I played this for years. Some of the my best gaming moments. At its peak, you would have 12 AO's per side up and down the front, 24 battles with hundreds of players. You could have grinding campaigns, Schilde was fought over for three weeks straight in one campaign, without pause. With each passing day both sides kept throwing more units into the inferno, players were blown away by how similar to WW1 it became. No one wanted to yield the town. You'd also see lightning breakthroughs and pushes, some being very successful, others being stopped or worse cut off. Took part in air raids with 120 fighters and 150 bombers. Para drops with 200 plus paras and 100 fighter/bomber escort. Armor columns with full divisions, 100+ tanks. Coordinated offensives, nail biting hold the last CP and recapture slugfests. FB fights that were just as if not more important then the fight over the town. On and on. Nothing has come close to this game. Sadly, it's a shell of its former glory. Seems they are reducing the scale, I'd love to see titanic battles like those again.

I would love to see them implement more than just the shooter aspect. Including aspects like: - Supply chains (teams could need to setup and protect supply chains) - Conquest points (Oil refineries, towns, docks, factories, cities) all giving each team more of a budget for things like resources and manpower - Destruction (I know this is a lot to ask for, but I wish a game developer implemented a 'Teardown' destruction system so that walls would break apart like individual block components). - Morale (I feel like this could be a system that takes into account how well supplied your troops are and the current death rate, if you get hit hard in a region then this could affect morale and ultimately change soldiers abilities to run, reload, throw grenades and aim) - Information I would love to see some kind of recon relaying system, scouts can record details about enemy movements, plans and supply chains, bringing their findings back to HQ and hopefully help orchestrate the teams next move

WWIIOL already has most of the stuff you are asking... There are factories that produce RP (research points - after one side complete it's research cycle, new equipment will be available for the players) and supply points. It's up to the HC (High Command) to distribute those points along the front line in form of small arms, tanks, ATGs, AAs, fighters, bombers, destroyers, etc. For a front line town be able to receive any supply, it must be linked to the supply chain, so "cutting off" a chunk of enemy towns is a risky but highly effective tactic. And those factories can be destroyed by bombing runs. Morale has a HUGE effect in the game. And it's not artificial, it's real... after losing important towns, one side may lose momentum, and it's a steam roller from that point on and takes a huge effort to revert that trend, but I saw campaigns that was almost over, with only few towns left to capture, and suddenly a shift in morale reverted the whole situation and the losing side actually won. As for information, well, it kinda was like that in the past, players had to defend the whole front, scan the horizon for hours and hours and report any possible enemy attack. This made fake attacks a viable tactic, as few players attacking a secondary objective mobilized hundred of enemy players to that objective, drawing defenders from the main attack. As for conquering points, the whole campaign is based EXACTLY on that principle... A town generally has an AB (army base), the main base where you can spawn tanks, ATGs, AA, vehicles, infantry, etc, and CPs (choke points) spread around the town where you can spawn infantry and few ATGs and has a smaller pool of resources. Those points has to be captured one by one to capture the entire town. And there are few huge towns that may take days to capture it. The game is HUGE, not only in the map size, but content wise... you need actually learn how to effectively use your equipment, where to shoot tanks, where are the weak points are on every vehicle model, how to properly aim with a tank, how to estimate distances, how to use mortars... and then there's the air war... omg I'm gonna download it again lol

0:54 "literally all of Europe" still doesn't do the map justice because of scaling. For example, European Truck Simulator is also "literally all of Europe" - but it's a 1:19 scale map of "all of Europe"; if you drive on a straight road at 60 mph for 1 minute, you will have covered 19 miles. WWIIOL is a **1:2** scale map of Europe. If you drive on a straight road at 60 mph for 1 minute in WWIIOL, you will have covered TWO miles, not NINETEEN. I've been playing on and off since launch, and the scale of the map is truly impressive.

@@RaysNewLife What makes Playnet/CRS so unique is their commitment to be inclusive for all gamers as the game is developed. By focusing on community growth in a singular gaming world there is no desire to fragment it with standalone geographic settings. Iconic battlefields ALREADY exist in the gaming world. Realize you can fight all the way across France to the English Channel and attempt an amphibious operation to England OR you can hold the line with the French and British Armies and push back across the Meuse, through the Low Countries or go overland and thrust into Germany. There are hundreds and hundreds of towns to liberate or capture, thousands of forward base staging areas to defend, bomb, or demolish. All aided and sometimes directly orchestrated by a player-run high command function of fellow interested gamers. The complexity and intricacies at the tactical and strategic levels remain decades ahead of other games. When you get with a group really trying to take territory it becomes a fascinating game that requires you to play a large number of unique roles. Nothing like getting stuck in a house, with a tank outside, desperately trying to call in support with nothing that could hurt them, hoping they don't know your in the house. (stealth truly is the ultimate weapon in this game) Tons of similar unique experiences in this game. Glad to see it getting a facelift and modernization. If they can combine some modern game design to capture more traditional FPS play alongside the unique elements it will gain a very large player base. I was heartbroken when the team talked about ending development back then. Despite putting in development time and working on the project, I was a fan above-all. The difficulty in development specifically for the map would definitely be a challenge. For more modern games in order for ground maps to be enjoyable and meet today’s standards, they must be crafted by hand, which takes a very long time. Games like flight simulator and other simulators can get away with doing large general scans of real world places because the player doesnt need to see all the fine details on ground level. In order to make a map of this size and not have it be negatively effected by scanning errors you would need some sort of system to auto places smaller map details like chairs, doors, tables, barrels etc. Older games could probably get away with it because their standards for detail were lower so people really didnt care that a kitchen in a house wasn’t fully modeled. Just some thoughts :)

You can enter most buildings in small towns right now in game, and in cities it does city blocks which are unenterable to save on space. Hell Let Loose has a good balance of enterable buildings, would be good to emulate that.

This new games needs to be like foxhole, you'd have people producing weapons in factories that would have to be shipped to the front. Basically every uniform, every bullet is made in a factory and players would have to make it and ship it. Having wars lasting over months would be insane. Real world generals participating and deciding would be insane. Although I believe a 1:2 scale is a bit too much for only 1000 players. It should be more around 10-15 thousand servers but make use a map sections for servers. This would actually allow both navys for something todo, the germans sinking cargo boats and the allied forces trying to find and locate these ships. Although one issue is once again the scale, who would want to drive for up to 5 hours just to drop off supplies to the front. Its like a full time job. 1:20 scale would make more sense

The #1 reason we are here after 21 years of continued live game operations, with no interruption, is because of subscriptions. We know it's a little different than other places, but please consider the upside as demonstrated over these years, that awesome games like ours can continue on and survive a lot longer. Now, we're reaching the point of being able to go into Unreal. That represents a really exciting possibility and we couldn't have done it without our fans continually investing us, for which we are eternally grateful for. Salute!

Chokepoint is not made by Cornered Rats, it's made by a small dev team that was working on the standalone release for a Half-Life 2 mod called Resistance and Liberation. CR bought out the team and renamed the project due to some copyright shenanigans, but it was originally meant to be a completely different game unrelated to WWII Online.

Honestly with combat zones in 100 player games like HLL and Squad, even that feels a little too much at times. 1000 players sounds genuinely impossible and I would doubt how fun it is. Of course we have games like Planetside though and they have done well with massive player counts. I am just worried that the format of WW2 weapons would be a little much. 5 MGs on a point in HLL is a good example of how lame it can get. Not even smoke can save you from thousands of bullets flying in every direction.

But that's how war is bro. The number of players is only too much if they're not spread out on a huge map. Look at elder scrolls online. It had a huge map but with loading screens but the pvp area battles were massive. And it wasn't even a normal first person shooter. There would be tons of people and even just a small amount in one area would create a front in the war because it was still a very large amount
@Bruh-d

Nah it's decently spread out with people and it's huge towns with multiple objectives and alot of cover, Plus you got Vehicles and everything and planes as well that can dive bomb and tanks can shell people out so it's not encouraged to hold in place. I've been playing Planetside 2 since Nov 2012, almost 10 years. Context: I have never, ever played a fps, mmo game as much as I had with PS2. Call of Duty's, Battlefield/fronts came and went yet Planetside 2 still remains king in my opinion. Why? Ease of getting into a squad (especially your own outfit), no one is tied to 4 man squads, it's 1-48 of your buddies. The crazy numbers and action with ground, armor and air. It's bananas. The downside is shooting has some lag, so you REALLY have to aim ahead of your target. If this game can pull in large numbers and run smooth, it might be worth checking out.

The only problem is that on their steam-page, there is no mention of 1000 players on line. The old game had it yes, but new one, i don't think will. Quote": Strap on your U.S. paratrooper or German Wehrmacht battle dress and get pumped for the adrenaline rush of 36-player PvP action in shell-torn towns and the ravaged battlegrounds of Europe. " this would be the greatest project if they can manage 1000 players, and best revive in history of gaming, if they succed! WW2 community players badly need a FPS+campaign RTS/TBS interface to wage the ww2. All we have is a tons of ww2 shooters with nice graphics, but with no outcome (after each battle you start forever another one, with no impact whatsoever). AND MOST IMPORTANT - this game has Kills/Deaths board display, while the bs HLL erase it and it's confusing and so frustrating even after 6 months of playing it!
