that is one "Salty" captain and crew. I fish braid to fluro just longer leader if they r picky and I have fished with the braid to mono to fluro too. Lot of guys just unfortunately not paying attention to how their lines are laying out. Cattle boat fun! Good job man!

I got lectured by Capt. Kley for fishing braid to fluoro haha. I didn't take it personally as I know he was ultimately looking out for my best interest. He saw that I was bit a couple times but couldn't land any, gave me some pointers, and proceeded to land the next one albeit on braid to 25# fluoro. Will I heed his advice next time? Absolutely. I think the key here is on such light tackle ( 20-25lb line, #4 thinner wire circle hooks, socal style fast action rods) the mono gives you that extra margin of error against pulling too hard. What were the pointers? 1.Reduce drag pressure and let the fish run . 2. Do not pump (obviously on a conventional), let the reel do the work. 3. Poop happens, keep on fishing. On a lighter note, I think salty captains prefer mono because they can actually see it in tangles.

@wickeditr your final comment of seeing the mono 👌. This was a really good trip , best bluefin trip for me to date. 4 -40lber's is excellent in my book. I've fished with mono and just can't stand reeling through the knots . Thank you for the awesome comments, thank you for watching and I hope to see you out there sometime . Happy Thanksgiving. 🎣🐟😎

I agree...I have fished the el ninos since 81...even when albacore fishing mono is key, you have to remember the key to braid is that its main focus is strength, line capacity, and durability under stress....but what it doesn't allow is flexibility under stress, live bait recognition, and abrasion resistance...success to you at a short leader, but you're one dimensional. EXPERIENCE AND TIME ON WATER IS THE LEGEND OF SUCCESS PERIOD. You catch 10 of these your lucky, catch 30 your figuring it out, catch 50 you have a focused on a couple different techniques, catch 70 you can define what you want to do....give mono a chance, I personally have at least 100+ ft of mono topshot. Take it how you want but Tuna under 40lbs to me is like a wide open Bonito Bite...been there...done that, more than a few times when there was no catch limit .Try fishing the tuna with a Penn Senator 3/0, 4/0, 6/0 and a e-glass/fiberglass rod or an older spinfisher reel and get back to me later. You have no idea in the technology you have today and you will never have an opportunity like this in our waters again. Never think you know it all that will be your downfall, I still ask the deckhands what's going on. Im am 63, Good Vid, Youre the future in our conservation and knowledge.👍

The reason he’s saying to use a mono topshot is mainly for when peoples lines cross and get tangled braid is cutting everyone off and the tangles are worse mono is a lot more forgiving so when u have a swell and the boat is rocking up and down 10+ft the braid to flouro has more chance of breaking or pulling the hook vs the mono with lots of stretch but if u fish on a private boat braid to flouro leader is the way to go imo if u are fishing a sport boat mono topshot is better
@ArthurPereira1974
@ArthurPereira1974 Жыл бұрын
@faced2muchog303 I think you are correct , the braid cuts through mono easily and anther reason i dont use mono . Ive been cut off in the past myself . But i would have to say in all the years ive been fishig and making these videos , i havent seen it happen very much or if at all . Ive seen the prop of the boat cause more casualtys by far . Sometimes the crew miss gafs the fish etc. Thank you for the feed back , hope to see you out there sometime . 🎣🐟

@@ArthurPereira1974 I’ve been cut off using braid multiple times from people using braid to leader. It just slices through all types of lines easily with a hard running fish on in my experience not just mono. Also for the novice angler (which sport boats get alot of) mono is a better choice then leader to braid but if u r experienced and can stay outta tangles braid to leader has its advantages. But like I said mono is alot more forgiving and I’d bet if everyone on a packed sportboat was using mono topshot they’d land more fish vs the whole boat with braid to leader the smaller the boat and less anglers is when braid to leader starts to make more sense. I’d take the captains word for it I mean he is out there everyday doing it for a living. Tight lines hope to see u out there 🤙🎣🫡

I like using braid to mono to floral because of the stretch. But i also think if you get a slow action or parabolic Rod it gives you that stretch and helps. I also think if you have been fishing for a while you know when there is to much pressure on a fish. I think it comes down to preference, how many years you have fished, and outfit that you are using if you need mono. This conversation comes up a lot. Great videos 🤙

I think that the use case needs to be clearly defined because it's rarely ever just one correct answer depending on the conditions. I personally use braid to flouro leader for flyline because I believe the bait just swims better pulling super thin braid through the water... but I use braid to a wind-on 100ft mono topshot, to a swivel & 200-300lb flourocarbon bite leader for heavy knife & flatfall jigs. That extra stretch and shock absorption seems to work best, especially when the wind and swell is up and the boat is rocking. If I get sawed off I just re-crimp or tie to a new swivel or put on a brand new 100ft mono wind-on.
@ArthurPereira1974

@TylerTanaka I feel the same as you on the fly line , the mono is to restricting specially with the memory it holds . I havent landed any Bluefin or even hooked up on anything over 70lbs and the braid to floro combo worked for me there . I actually removed the mono backer off one of my rods because i couldnt handle reelign through the splice Mono to braid . Thank you for watchign and i appreciate the feed back . Hope to see you out there sometime . 🎣🐟

I don't agree with the captain on the braid and leader. The reason he is saying that is to reduce tangles I'm sure. I have never lost a fish using braid and leader..need a softer rod and adjust the drag.
@ArthurPereira1974
@ArthurPereira1974 8 ай бұрын
@Desert8285 Yeah , same here , softer Rod as you said adds the give some guys say Mono gives you. To me less chance of failure with less knots also. Tight lines , hope to see you out there sometime. The season is just getting started . 🙌 🎣🐟

Again One dimensional...YOU CAN'T JUST RELY ON YOUR DRAG, what if all of a sudden your line starts jerking off your spool because your drag starts to fail, what is going to help you possibly to land the fish...the stretch and flexibility in the mono, back off a bit and then you have a backup in the line.@@ArthurPereira1974
