That little monster of a reel is rank one of the best spinners here in new Zealand in all aspects. From price, good looking, performance, durability, rigidity, and the drags on the are freaken crazy. Don't know if penn will top the slammer3 for a while. Nice to see the slammer3 in action and a great footage brother. I bought all sizes of slammer3 for the price of one of my high end shimano stella, and the stella has not been used since. I think I'm gonna sell the stella to get me some Penn slammer3 red high speed and that's my spinner gears for life. CHEERS From new Zealand. Nice one bro.

@RH4219394 жыл бұрын

I don't get why u don't tighten the drag down but instead u hold on to the spool, 5500 has 40 lbs max drags, the drag doesn't need to be tighten at max, but it need to set at the level where the fish doesn't spool out your line so easily. anyway, great video.
@RH4219396 жыл бұрын
that canal has strong current and if it is a decent fish on and it starts running there is no stopping it, holding the spool is easier than playing with drag knob adjusting loose and tight I had fish there straighten heavy hooks and rings and that was just a sp minnow with all factory gear on It have to keep the pressure right or that fish would be gone and the hook would be straight

@robthorpe15916 жыл бұрын
Tighten down that drag. Especially in that current. You gotta turn that fish quick. The Slammer can handle it.
@RH4219396 жыл бұрын
the slammer can but factory sp minnow hooks cant
@robthorpe15916 жыл бұрын
You know you should always switch out the factory hooks and split rings on an SP minnow - that's a rookie move of which you are not.
@RH4219396 жыл бұрын
yeah I know I have over 40 sp minnows that will get a little pricy , I just started using the new yo zuri hydro minnow those are really nice and cast way better than a sp and hooks and rings are much stronger
@robthorpe15916 жыл бұрын
That's a good lure - I try to carry max of 5 SP minnows in my bag - just switch them out and rotate to keep cost down. You probably only have a handful that you fish regularly and consider your favorites. I used to be the carrier of way too much in my bag.
@RH4219396 жыл бұрын
I don't carry all them I have my favorites and try to carry 2 of those colors you know how that goes certain times of the day fish are only interested in 1 color and you lose that one you can be out of business , those factory hooks anyway 1 decent size fish the hooks have to be changed anyway
@wa72936 жыл бұрын
Do you need a strong rod for bluefish, i have an 8'6" rod that cast up to 1.25oz, would this work?
@RH4219396 жыл бұрын
that Is fine the rod in this video is a 8' with a lure weight 3/8 oz to 2oz ,I mainly use this rod for blues and stripers on the beach or when I go to this canal , also my other main bluefish rod is 7' 1/2 oz to 2oz lure weight that I mostly use on my boat, it also depends on how your fishing to with bait or lures you want to mke sure your rod isn't stiff as a board if your throwing plugs or metal lures

you also don't get bluefish in florida like we get in new jersey , was probably a 30-32 inch blue in a canal with a strong current and they use that current to their advantage very well and drag wasn't set to tight because factory hooks and rings on sp minnow

have had the reel for 2 years now and has had heavy use and no issues , the ipx 6 sealing keeps this reel pretty much water proof they say your not supposed to submerge but I had it submerged in mexico for 20 minutes fighting a big jack crevalle and it performed flawless and opened it up afterwards and was completely dry inside, I will be getting my 3rd slammer soon you cant beat what you get for the money with the slammer 3

the slammer 3 is holding up excellent , its a great surf fishing reel especially because its sealed I had that reel with me in cancun last march and landed a 25-30 pound jack crevalle I had to go in the water to maneuver it out of the jetty I was on which was pretty stupid seeing how the water was over my head but the reel was completely under water for a good 10-15 minutes and worked flawless I got back to my room at the resort and opened it up and 100% dry the only issue I have had was a problem with the drag 2 weeks ago but that ended up being ice under the drag knob , that's what happens when you fish the beach in new jersey this time of year
@robthorpe15916 жыл бұрын
Jack Crevalle are a good fight. I caught a nice Jack on light travel rod in West Palm Beach last year. He went on a crazy first run and then it was a fight to get line back. Only got him in with the help of the waves.

apparently you never caught a decent bluefish in a strong current because they run 10 times harder when they get in the rip ,and there was factory hooks and rings on that plug that are weak so its all about working the drag , but you probably don't know what I'm talking about just stick to sunnys on a pond somewhere
