Thank you Marty!!! I am using old PS CS3 and could never get through any other tutorials to achieve this. They kept using options I couldn't find. You got me 99% of the way there. I did not have a vibrance option from the adjustment layer icon but I think I figured it out! My first attempt looks pretty good. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Brilliant. You get right to the point. Works pretty much with Elements 10 as well. I had following problems though. Firstly in Elements there is no Adjustment Layer for Vibrance (not that I can find anyway). I used Saturation instead (but not at maximum). But result doesn't seem to need this. Also, I found Foreground/Background colours have to be Black and White when working on the Brushes layer. Took my ages to figure that one out. Maybe this is just an Elements thing.

At the pencil lines stage, after inverting and desaturating it's much too light, but this may be because my image is mostly white and cream flowers. How would you recommend that I alter the measurements in order to get nice desaturation like you've achieved with your boat picture?
@BLTV_Photoshop7 жыл бұрын
If the original photo is too light, try increasing its contrast (Ctrl + L) before you invert it.

tamer ezzat and mbamaral1, I have the same problems as you do but I found the solution. When you want to paint on the 2nd brush, choose "Clear" from the "Module" which is next to the brush opacity, the rest just follow suit from the video. I don't know why we have this problem when I followed exactly the instructions, redo it over and over again but problem still persist until I experiment with the "module". Have fun! :)

Wonderful tutorial, thank you so much! I had just a couple issues, one of which I figured out on my own (and others on here have struggled with the same thing, so I thought I'd try to help), but the other is continuing to plague me. If you're using "the latest version of Photoshop", it's likely Photoshop CC. There are 2 steps where the directions are different in Photoshop CC than in this tutorial - the glowing lines step and the sandstone texture. Both of these will be found by going to Filter - Filter Gallery - and then to Stylize and Texturize, respectively. Just get into the Filter Gallery and continue to follow the instructions from there. The second problem is one I can't figure out. I've tried it repeatedly to see if I missed a step and tried multiple photos of different styles/ISOs and the same thing happens each time and very similarly in each photo - I'm only able to get about half of the color to appear when I use the dry brush and watercolor textured surface brush. On every picture, the backgrounds fail to regain any color by "painting" them in. Only about half of the rest of the picture is colored, but the background is always completely colorless. I'm at a loss. Help? I'm assuming it's caused by a variation with Photoshop CC as my picture looked exactly like yours (even the thumbnails in the Layers window looked like yours!) until this step. I'm left with a mostly white picture. I'd love some feedback on a possible solution here, if you can?

It's possible the Blend Mode is incorrect. FYI: One of the reasons I'm offering my viewers to subscribe to my Nooma.tv Photoshop Learning Community is that we'll be able to screen-share LIVE, so I can actually see your file and speak with you. It's difficult to determine a problem in PS unless I can inspect your document. www.nooma.tv/n/bluelightningtv/

You guys will need to go to Filter - Filter Gallery - Texturize, and then follow his instructions. Photoshop CC uses a filter gallery, so for this step and the Glowing Lines one, that's where it will be found. Hope this helps.
