Like many cars the L400 chassis is built and used for many vehicle brands . There are specifications that need to be meet depending on which markets they will be sold . ALL the L400 chassis are wired the same from the factory to have the wiring in place for ALL possible requirements . Your wagon was either sold in or imported into a country that did not require reverse lights ....OR swapped out after the fact to keep an authentic Japanese look to it (possible due to the cut wire) . Orange wire tends to be an industry standard for reverse light circuits . Put a fresh round of tape on it , tuck it between the carpet/padding and forget about it . If your doing some back country stuff wire up a light bar and put it to use . Have fun , bye for now .

I know it is after the fact but it will be easier to use the original carpet to the template on the plywood. Nice work

Cool cool. Not sure I like vans more than sailboats, but I’ll play along. Looking forward to seeing more Canadian scenery - you guys are great ambassadors!

In Europe we have a backup light on our cars, So people behind you can see if you're backing up with your car That orange cable you found is probably for that.

That wire is for a trailer that has back up lights, wich is usually a separate plug as it is a add on to trailers. I would just leave it where you can use it if you ever need extra lights to jack up.

Excellent! It's always fun to watch your videos. Just a guess for the wire is for a back up camera. That would turn the camera on when you shift into reverse. I wire mine to always be on because it works better than the mirrors to see what's behind. Looking forward to the next installment!

The reversing wire could have been a connection to an aftermarket dashcam/reversing cam. I allows it to know when reverse is selected

The wire is for a reverse camera. That is why is only has power when you are in reverse.

A great start to your van conversion. Looking at the one view of the right tail light assembly, I didn't see a backup light, the orange wire is likely for that or could be used as such for after market LED lights. Definitely looking forward to the rest of your build.

this wire has been very likely been tapped from the reverse light to run a rear view or reversing camera.

what is your budget for this conversion. Did you look at a Pajero or any thing else why 4WD ?curious on completion do you have to have survey electrics. Road worthy etc.

We didn’t formulate a specific budget ahead of time but the lumber came in around $400 or so, mostly because of how expensive it is these days! Otherwise it was just the human-hours which we were lucky to have on hand...otherwise it would have taken several weeks working after school/work

Can I make a suggestion? When your video cut to voice over it highlighted something for me. The videos I’ve watched of yours you dedicate a lot of time to explaining things and it can be a lot of information to take in. This means less time for actually watching what you are doing. When you did the voice over it was a good combination of explaining and doing. Personally I like this style as it gives you multiple options ie: music, video content and explaining. Not saying make this the bulk of your vids but it certainly worked for me. Just offering some feedback. Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot for this SV Waka! We have noticed this ourselves in our videos and are going to try and focus on it in the future, try and cut down the bulk and stick with a good flow! We appreciate your feedback, best wishes wherever you are!

Wire might be for a reverse light... lets people know the vehicle is in reverse and the driver's view may be obscured, to watch out, get out of the way.
