I am an old guy and a scientist, but have always kept up with technology. When bluetooth was being developed it was featured as a “personal” networking protocol. It then took a relatively long time to roll out. Bluetooth, by the way, was King Harald of Denmark, who unified the Danish tribes and was a big fan of blueberries. His subjects nicknamed him blue tooth!

Two points to mention: a) Bluetooth needs a password when pairing the devices; b) the purpose of Wi-Fi is primarily to form a network and then, if necessary, to connect to the internet via a router.

Good overall view but lacking some of the newer features 1. Bluetooth now requests a passcode to connect (can still use a default preexisting passcode on some devices that don't support passcode entry). 2. WiFi is not only 2.4 GHz, it's also 5 GHz and 6 GHz now. There are also some non standard frequency ranges in use (I've seen 60 GHz listed). Lower the frequency the greater the range, higher the frequency the greater the speed but diminished range. 3. You can also run a network over Bluetooth, although it's slow and you would opt for WiFi instead if you had the choice

I was active in IT when Bluetooth was developed. The initial idea came from this. A salesman was in a customers office. He had just made a sale, and wanted to give the customer a receipt, but it was impractical to carry a printer around. So Bluetooth allowed the salesman to connect, wirelessly, to a printer in hte customer's office, and produce a paper receipt. One great (unknown today) advantage was that this was in the days before USB ports existed, and there were multiple cable interfaces available, which would have made hooking a laptop or simiar type device to a printer even more difficult .

Essentially, both Bluetooth and WiFi are used to connect devices to each other (WiFi Direct is also a thing), my concern was why they both exist even though WiFi is seemingly superior. And from what I understood, it's that Bluetooth is more resilient to interference, it has more channels (70 vs 12, so the channels are thinner - more devices can connect to each other in the same space, consume less power and be useful, while fewer devices need a higher broadband, to connect to the internet for example.

Thank you! I was wondering for years what it's all about. And no, I'm no beginner but did'nt feel I needed to go to trouble to find out. I used bluetooth to connect expensive ear buds to my smartphone and found out that manufacturers cheated on the public. The cheaper versions would not listen to the navigation app on my smartphone, but to phone calls only. The expensive ones would leave out the first letter of the directions of the app. So I never again purchased any bluetooth device or downloaded an app using it, let aside to buy hardware, for the last approx. 15 years. Still interesting to watching your video!

There is a password mechanic with the Bluetooth technology but these days they either opt to send the required password as a prompt to the targeted device, use a standard 1234-code mentioned in the manual or neglect the process entirely for the sake of convenience. Though, back in the early days Bluetooth was even less safe. I remember leaving Bluetooth on on my Sony Ericsson T610 and standing at a crowded station when I noticed unsolicited traffic between my phone and an unknown source trying to copy my data.
