Toyota 4Runner front door panel removal/installation video for the 5th gen 4runner sound system upgrade. This is a DIY audio upgrade with hardware and speakers purchases though crutchfield.com. It was over all a very easy process. I went with rockford fosgate speakers and they really sound great for being with the stock head unit. The Toyota 4runner sound system upgrade is very simple, yes there are kits out there, but this DIY is for a eighth of the price.

Being an auto glass installer for over 30 years. I recommend rolling down the window it won't be such a pain in the butt put it back on and you will not scratch the tint if you have that on the glass. Great video love your Channel.

A much easier way to to pull this panel off is to NOT lift up when you pull the panel off. The part that hangs over the Door sill is actually also clipped into the door panel. Just pull straight back and it will release, then you just have to push the door Straight back with out all the frustration of setting the sill before you can push it in.

So the part thats hanging over the sill is able to separate from the door card once you pull back on the door card?

Really wish I'd known this ahead of time, but can confirm this is *THE* reason you're so frustrated trying to put your door panel back on I'd been screwing with it for like 45 minutes getting so frustrated once I realized this it took me 30 seconds to finish

Great video, very helpful, I’m a mom with no experience on this stuff and I was able to remove my door panel and put it back on, WITHOUT BREAKING ANYTHING!

You DO NOT lift up as you remove the panel. You pull straight out leaving the felt window trim attached to the door. It is damn near impossible to try to re-attach the door the way shown here and you will damage your clips and plugs. Much Much easier if you do as I described. Pull straight out! Then re-install is super simple.

Did the pull up method, worked decently but yeah, putting It back is a hassle. Better to slide in the mirror side first then work back when installing the panel back in

Great video, you were right about the water bottle. :) 1) I put some tape around the white clips to help keep in place. 2) roll the window down and start from the front and push towards toward mirror when putting the door panel back.

I removed the panel to swap door handles and now my driver side rear passenger door doesn’t open the door from the outside. It makes a weird sound when pulling the handle. Any advice/suggestions on how to fix this.

​@TRDJon just an update. The video helped greatly! I replaced the interior window gaskets tonight and the door panel was a PAIN to get back in the metal trim on the door. My truck is a 13 SR5 but got it done. Thanks again for thr video!

Does this apply to a 2010 4runner and 2016? I’m try to replace my 2016 4runner door panels but the only cheap ones I could find are off a 2010 runner

Bro what are my chances changing speakers without removing those 2 cables for locking mechanism? (If I’m not doing sound deadening). Some what concerned that I might screw locking mechanism. I’m thinking if I could use a cord or something to support the panel from the door and fix the speakers from under. Checked with a shop and labor for 4 Focals are $100. And they said they will disconnect the speakers from lift gate. I feel like I could do myself if I’m doing Focals as they are direct plug and play. For stock headunit + Focals with an amp the shop quoted me insane price. 4Runner is definitely not that quiet vehicle to invest that amount of money imo.
