Toyota 4Runner How to remove front door panels

This video is part of a complete audio upgrade in a 2014 Toyota 4Runner. In this video series we are adding our plug and play amplifers to the stock Toyota head unit (stereo), upgrading the front and rear door speakers and adding a dual 10” downfire ported subwoofer box.
In this video we will show you how to remove the front door panel. This will give you access to upgrade / replace the stock speakers in your Toyota 4Runner. Using our plug and play harnesses along with our plug and play amplifiers, we will take this stock vehicle system and boost the power from 18 watts to 70 watts RMS to each speaker. In addition, we will be adding a downfire subwoofer box loaded with two 10” subwoofers.

How would you get the panel off if you couldnt open the door...bad actuator...

@@TerlinguaBBNP My son's got the car so I haven't been able to work on it but I think I know what I'm going to be doing. If I can get the panel partially off I know where to drill the door to pop open the lock. Plan B is to cut into the b-pillar and cut the bolts on the strike plate.

@@AlexN-jn6gg There is no mechanical switch to open a broken actuator in a closed door.

@@TerlinguaBBNP yes, I was able to pull the panel off enough to fit an angle drill behind it. I drill a 3/4 hole through the metal and basically was able to pick the actuator with a small screw driver to open it. Once the door was open, it was a 20 minute fix.

@@mzimmerman123 I know it now. Learned it hard way. Managed to pull the door panel with closed door enough to get to the lock and looking at the mechanicals of the new actuator managed to press one the levers with a screwdriver. Yes, scratches on hands and blood, so be carefull not to mess up panels and seats. Did not damage the panel. Just letting You know- its possible. Of course shop or dealer will not go this path. There is a mechanical switch, but most likely its transmission cable is disconnected from the actuator, which also acts as a mechanical lock. If You go this path- make sure to unscrew all the screws holding the panel, so when You pull it from the top with a little violence You will have to fight only plastic clips , which will pop out , but you will not brake panel at the screw mounts
