I ended up buying a 2024 5th Gen. What it came down to for me was 1) fear of higher prices in the 6th Gen, 2) unknown initial reliability, which is probably again more fear. Toyota will figure it out. So, maybe in a few years I’d consider switching, but after having this new truck for the past month and a half, I think this is my forever truck. Or at least until I’m too old to get out there. And now I can’t unsee that double Hulk Hogan mustache. Thanks Jon 😂.

You made a great choice man. I've been driving my 5th Gen for 5 years and it feels like we just met yesterday. It's so great to drive and I still give it that second look when I walk away in the parking lot. There have been zero mechanical issues. I think I could easily drive it for another 5 years and I have full faith that it would keep going even longer.

Same. O3' V6 with 330K miles and going strong, even with original starter, U joints, etc. I've though about selling it when i eventually get a late model Gen 5 or maybe a Gen 6...but not so sure. Reliable and I know this car better than most people, and it's never let me down. Might have to continue as my "beater" car. If so, I would do an in the garage Raptor paint job, but everything else is excellent.

Since the 4Runner and Tacoma share the same platform, I don’t see any reason why the geometry and components would be different other than the length of the chassis. Thus the aftermarket community is already there making parts for a Tacoma, which likely will be an exact fit for the 4Runner

I have a 2019 TRD Off Road. I towed my 20ft fish and ski boat @ 5k pounds plus fuel and gear in the boat and gear in the back of the runner. Likely 6k pounds. No problem for the last 5 years. Wear on the brakes unless you have a trailer that has brakes and works with a controller. Then it's pretty simple. Give your 4R some oil and watch the rust (yearly oil coat) and you have a long lasting beast.

Hoping that with the hybrid 4runner, it will make a solid car camping setup-- being able to run AC/heat when sleeping inside, powered by the 1.87kw battery completely silent, with the engine only cycling on to charge it back up🎉

@guentherwilke2055 wow that's great news regarding using minimal fuel for AC--- 25% engine running time is excellent! Right, so far, I would lean towards the 1958 LC, but still would like to see/drive the new 2025 4runner TRD off-road hybrid. The Grand Highlander hybrid at 47k also looks compelling considering the interior size with both rows folded flat

I heard that the box in the back that shields the batteries can only hold 60kg…… And even if you do all of the outfitting for the back end with drawers, kitchen items and other items, you are going to need to pull it all just to get to the battery box in five to seven years to replace the batteries.
@guentherwilke2055
@guentherwilke2055 Ай бұрын
@@kthendrix8 From what I've read, the 60kg weight limit is specifically for the lid on the storage box behind the battery. I think most Toyota hybrids go more than 5-7 years on a battery.

As much as I understand a majority of 4Runner buyers don't mind the underpowered powertrain as much, and are more focused on getting from point A-B, the new powertrain is just better IMO. I drove a friend's 4runner and coming from a modern V6 Highlander, I was not impressed at all, and was a deal breaker to me. Considering the LC and the Tacoma have the powertrain and are already out, the amount of "issues" are less likely to happen to the 4Runner, especially since its made in Japan.

@YerBoyTroy
@YerBoyTroy Ай бұрын
@@arhamkhakwani5851 any difference between the GX and tundra 'build quality' is more attributed to Lexus being a luxury line vs Toyota , more so than built in Japan vs not built in Japan. Example the old rx350 vs gx470 were on par with each other fit and finish wise despite the Rx being built in Canada. Same thing with the 4runner vs the old gen Sequoia. Build quality was pretty on par between both vehicles despite build locations. Maybe back in the day when parts and manufacturing processes weren't globally standardized you had quality inconsistencies across plants, but nowadays it's pretty consistent across the board. Toyota invested billions to make this so

I've been something of a fan of the 4Runner for a little while now, but always felt it was more vehicle than I needed or would use. But with the recent buzz over the next gen I find that I'm more curious now than ever to possibly dive in to that Toyota pool. Besides waiting on that final pricing, one of the big concerns is the potential for any "first year" design issues. I've been in a Subaru Outback Wilderness for a few years now and it's really been a great car! But the more I look the more I think it might be time for a truck!! :)

6G folding rear seats leave a hump and seem to reduce the overall storage length which doesn't allow you to sleep in the back or lay something flat that is lengthy. Will the forward passenger seat be able to adjust its height for taller people, like the driver seat? Probably not. What about a place to hold a cell phone? Or cup holders that can accomodate larger width mugs? Probably not. I have owned a new 2002, 2008, and 2018, and hope that the smaller improvements aren't overlooked which they probably are.

LC250, designed by Toyota-Japan, made in Japan; no reported issues. 4G Tacoma, designed by Toyota-America, made in Mexico, same powertrain; all kinds of problems. Perhaps Made in Japan is the critical difference.

My 2005 4Runner's sticker had 17/21 for the V6, which is the reason I wanted the V6. But yeah, the later 4Runners, and so disappointed with my 2016 Highlander's 16/19, what in the world? Corvettes have better mileage! That is disappointing that a lot of style cues come from the Tacoma. My HVAC controls are 5 starred rockers, so easy to raise or lower temps, 3 degrees down, just press three times, and can do it with gloves on. Not a fan of the face either. The 2024 face is very cool. I like to rear window curving up into the roof. Standard safety assistance features are welcome. Also, my 2005 came with roof rack, fog lamps, side steps, all standard. I think the roof rack and side steps have been add-ons for a while. I'd like a new one, but will wait a year at least.

MPG's is a subjective term. I was getting 17/21 mpg with my 23 TRD ORP before 2.5" lift, 33" tires and 108lbs of Westcott sliders. Now my mpg is 15/19 which is right there with EPA sticker of 16/19. Once you start modding the new gen stuff MPG will decrease as usual. I believe the new 4Runner will have the same mpg as the new Tacoma, not the Land Cruiser, which is 19/23

4 cylinder engines under pressure will never last as long as a 6 cylinder. People buy Toyotas because they are reliable. When I buy a truck I’m not buying it because I’m worried about gas mileage. I buy trucks to get jobs done with power to spare and reliability.
