Best thing about this purchase was that I only lost $2,900 on the 2019 TRD Off Road from what I purchased it for back in 2019. Great resale. I own a 2006 Toyota 4Runner Limited V8 4WD purchased new in 2006 currently with 57K+ miles... it's unmodified except for the tires which I replaced with Geolander A/T G015 which made a huge difference (from the original H/T tires) in both rain and especially snow!! This is the fourth 4Runner I've owned (an '86, '88, and '94) and imho it's perfect... acceleration is not only outstanding but the V8 and its excellent transmission makes it SO smooth to pass, reach the necessary speed to merge into a busy interstate, or climb a long interstate hill without slowing down... a little known feature is the ability to plug your iPhone into the jack (3.2 mm) inside the armrest on the lower right and all Apple music and podcast's can be played through the incredible JBL Limited sound system. There's is no backup camera so I have to drive with care using my mirrors and caution and no lane assist, etc... I basically, have to drive my 4Runner using my brain. You (Untamed Motors content providers) are absolutely correct when it comes to purchasing a 4Runner that may not be the newest product Toyota delivers to dealers... when the 4th Gen came out I waited until 2006 to purchase, then it was obvious inside and out that Toyota has resolved all the 4th Gen problems... I've never had my 2006 in for anything other than preventive maintenance (a turn signal light bulb did go out recently and it was replaced)... despite being an 18 year old vehicle, there are no squeaks, rattles, or any mechanical or interior switch problems -- or -- no recalls, too! Would I like a back-up camera added to my 4Runner?? idk, maybe... I really like the 6-disc changer that's there... going on a long trip I can check an audio book out from the library (for free) and load it up, drive away, and listen to a compelling story making the whole trip go so fast... a 4Runner is a great purchase (I don't get any money for saying this)... my comment is based solely on my experience to date...

Had a 2000 4 Runner Limited that I absolutely loved. Drove it until our burgeoning family outgrew it. Went to an ‘04 Sequoia, put 175k on it & bought a ‘16 LC(still have), and added a ‘21 Platinum Tundra 2 months ago and a ‘23 Rav for my college bound daughter. Also retained my ‘20 LS500 FSport which replaced my ‘08 LS 460 that was, regrettably, totaled. All got started w/ my ‘99 GS350😊. Guess I’m solidly a Toyota guy, and I’ve never looked back. Will prob add another Rav to the fleet next year when my youngest daughter goes to college. I do still have my Dad’s 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (125k miles, garaged) & my G-father’s ‘63 GMC, 4-on-the-floor, 3/4t, 4x4 w/ a 305 big-bore Hercules V6 engine w/ 77k original miles on it, also garaged (they’re both deceased now). Short way of saying, I have car issues.😂

I like the 5th generation, I had a 2021 4Runner Limited. Very nice vehicle but the 16 mpg city was hard to live with plus the slow 5 speed transmission. I agree not to buy the first year of a redesigned model. Let them work out the problems and wait for the 2026 or 2027.

Got a 2015 4Runner TRD pro in 2018 with 34K miles on it. I’ve lifted it, added a roof rack, bigger tires, and I really enjoy the thing. 85K miles on it now, I’m just wondering realistically how many years I can get out of it. I put about 8K miles a year on it. If it goes over 200K miles, that’s still over a dozen years away.

I’ve seen 3rd gen 4runners with 400-500k easy. We have a 24 pro and a 02. The 02 has 218k on it and runs perfect.

Much better power and gas mileage on the 4 cylinder turbo engine compared to my old V6 model 4Runner, I’m sure I’ll get high mileage on my turbo Ive been using turbo engines at my job for years and most easily get over 300 thousand miles My old v6 struggles up hills and and 4 banger turbo goes up without a struggle

Nissan is making a come back in this game, with the frontier , path finder and rumored Xterra return. All naturally aspirated motors. I would 100% buy them over any of the models Toyota is offering right now. I’ve been suspicious about Nissan but the friends I know that got them are truly enjoying them and haven’t had many issues besides some minor recalls. This is why I’m not a brand loyal type of person.

Historically Toyota is known for its Kaizan philosophy; which served them well. IMO, they did not practice that philosophy when going from Gen 5 to Gen 6 4 Runners resulting in questionable quality products.

Even with better gas mileage the 2025 may never even pay off the price difference, no less the depreciation and worry factor about transmission issues. I was looking at the new Taco's and 4Runners but for the kind of money they want, I'm now looking at totally restored early 70's Bronco's - way more cool factor and will likely hold value or increase! Plus I can get parts and work on it myself!
@jeffreyfitch10062 ай бұрын
Since he mentioned it, from what complaints & data I could gather from Landcruiser forum pages, all of these transmission failures are directly related to people overloading when towing, & driving 70 mph everywhere they go. Not gonna defend Toyota's drop in quality, but don't be a moron with a new car. Drive it normal, use eco mode to maximize fuel economy, don't overload for towing. And who gets a midsize vehicle to tow anyway?! Wanna tow shit? GET A DIESEL TRUCK!

I agree they will make the 6th gen better but it will take years, if ever. The Tundra mechanical issues are still not completely fixed.

Definitely buy the 2024 Toyota 4-runner. Don’t buy the 2025

Just admit you are jealous and broke. The 2025 is better has a better look, more features.
@anthonys55812 ай бұрын
The additional features in the 2025 would be the reason why I would buy the 2024. The 2024 model already has more features than I’d ever need and I much prefer simpler vehicles.
@AlexAlex-gs1xh2 ай бұрын
@anthonys5581 nuh uh just admit you are broke the exterior outdated interior outdated very small screen can't even see navigation properly. 10inch should be minimum 7 qnd 8i ch screens are too small. Overpriced and no blind spot monitor standard which would be in 2025. It will be the wprde decision ever to buy a 2024 when 2025 are around the corner.
@anthonys55812 ай бұрын
I don’t care if the exterior or interior is outdated. I actually prefer the look of the 2024 version. I don’t want a big screen in my car. The smaller screens are great and I can see the navigation just fine. If you can’t “see the navigation properly” on the smaller screens, your eyes probably aren’t good enough to safely drive in the first place. Maybe get glasses? I don’t want blind spot monitoring either. It’s unnecessary and annoying technology for people that actually know how to drive. I don’t want a stressed out turbo 4 cylinder either. I’d prefer a naturally aspirated engine in a vehicle I intend to keep for many years. They are more simple, reliable, and cost less to maintain long-term. I can afford both, I’m just choosing the vehicle I think is better.
@AlexAlex-gs1xh2 ай бұрын
@anthonys5581 bla bla my eyes are perfectly fine I have perfect vision. The 2025 is better. People who are not normal will choose the 2024 over 2025. Bigger screens are better. Cry me a river. Keep crying about reliability..

Quite honestly I wish they would build one like they did in the 90s. Noneof the electronic bullcrap. Give me knobs and sliders for radio and heater. Screens are far more dangerous to look at when driving and trying to adjust your heat/defrost, radio, etc. Less emission garbage to screw up the engine. And when electronics go out look at the cost of repair. Technology is not necessarily a good thing. All it does is run the price up.

Inflation is killing everything. I saw a 2024 4Runner SR5 for 52k just 3 days ago. I paid 40k back in 2017 for an Off-road Premium with KDSS, moonroof, and sliding rear cargo tray. Piano black trim on the 25’s will immediately get pinstriped. Not sure what they were thinking.
