Apparently Blur decided to put this song on the album at the last minute, originally intending "Movin' On" to be the closer. Good thing they did, this eerie track adds a really unique twist to the album.
@k-leb46715 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. I can see Movin' On originally being a hidden track of sorts, or a bonus ending to the album, with Strange News from Another Star being the real ending of the album. But then Essex Dog got added.

'Blur' is my favourite of all their works. It has an enigma that was a game changer for their careers. They took more chances and became actual musicians as apposed to a cliche. Granted 'Song 2' came out of it, but it was still unlike anything they had written before. :)
@deathkampdrone7 жыл бұрын
It was a very brave album at that exact point in their career, but they did so well. Personally I would have to pick either 13 or Modern Life as my favorite, but this self-titled album is sort of the perfect mix between those two albums. Truly great band! Im so grateful I happened to grow up with this band as my most formal musical long-term experience. So cocky at times, yet so dark and deep at other times - but always very saying about their time. Left-field pop genius.
@DokkaChapman7 жыл бұрын
I'm not, I just think that it doesn't really fit with the rest of the record. It's style and length stand out so much it's kinda jarring when put between 'Beetlebum' and 'Country Sad Ballad Man'.
@deathkampdrone7 жыл бұрын
IceCat7: Nah, it is pretty annoying. Very catchy, but very stupid too. :) It has become their Creep or Teen Spirit, as in that song that everyone is associating with the band. Even though it is actually not really a dumbed-down version of the band - it was quite the contrary. A fairly daring sound from a band who were ALMOST a boyband before that album. Just almost... Wouldn't put in my top 30 blur songs ever. But that's just a question of preference. It really is sort of powerful, but it wore out pretty quickly.

@@ivancollini85 I actually wrote it in Italian, but basically it's about a young man tired of his soul-consuming job in a factory. And because of this routine and his fear of having to live this way for the rest of his life, he often suffers from panic attacks. The scene I described in particular is him on his way home during the sunset, with a very muggy weather as the summer is approaching, adding to his already intense headache from the sound of the machines. While reflecting on his life, in an empty neglected street, he begins to have one of those episodes again, only to find himself lying on an hospital bed in the end (the album cover was also an inspiration for that, it's just very evocative)
