I am sitting in my living room with a great cup of coffee watching you out in that cold weather. Glad I do not have such cold weather here. At 80 years old, the cold really slows me down. Our weather is mostly nice except in summer when it can get really hot and muggy. So I know no matter where you live there are pros and cons with the weather. Wishing you and Vonnie a great New Year. It has been comparatively warm all winter on the Canadian border.

We have beavers here to, our place has a donut shaped pond that covers a 4 acre area in total. About 5 years ago we had some beaver move from the river maybe 100 yards or less away and built 2 lodges on the island this year they have gotten very active including dropping an 8 inch around wild cherry tree.

Did you see any unusual birds on the Christmas bird count, given the mild weather. Winter is arriving here middle of the week. Not a lot of snow but getting COLD.

We saw a lot of variety but in lower numbers. Red and White winged Crossbill, Pine and Evening Grosbeaks, Black-backed Woodpeckers and Northern Shrikes. Lots of mice in the woods but only one Great Gray Owl. ROugh-legged hawks were everywhere with all the mice and little snow.

Neither have I. I will continue to call them Gray Jay. Most of the US had Blue Jays.

The Gray Jay was renamed to its old name of Canada Jay a few years ago. Canada Jays are easily tamed and very docile peaceful birds. The BlueJay is a ully and thief and full of mischief.

Been a few years now. That is a great May treat when on a walk. I used to do it on -20 degree walks but kind of gave that up.
