Those Spruce Grouse look pretty but it ends there. They eat Spruce needles so think what that does to the meat. It is dark and strong so area hunters leave them be and look for the light meated and delicious Ruffed Grouse.

I am sitting in my warm living room with a good cup of Louisiana Community coffee watching you out in the cold.Glad you enjoy that cold weather. At 80 1/2 years old it is not for me for sure. Do enjoy seeing you have such a good time at the cabin. We are having a very cold snap here down South and it will be rough for us as we are no use to it or prepared for it . Got all of our water pipes wrapped and emergency gas heater ready as we are all electric. Wish I had a wood heater but no place to put it so we do the best we can. Be safe and enjoy. I have such great success because I am 3 miles from a gravel road where Spruce Grouse often times go for their grit. The Ruffed Grouse seldom come in for grit.

I was just curious why you don't use your old manual well pump and or pitcher pump. I have the same exact one you have. I ran a 20 ft section of PVC in mine, with a check valve at the bottom so that the pipe stays full of water and you never have to prime it. You can also get new leather gaskets for the pitcher pump.

A few issues make it not worth the trouble. Worst is the amount of iron in that shallow well water. It is only water sitting on top of a clay layer that has no water at all. I tried auguring deeper but clay layer goes too deep.

Jim, it's going to take drastic measures to get some of those Cinnamon rolls. I have a cunning plan. You're going to need 14,000 grey bird feathers, 2,000 black feathers, a pair of long underwear, two gallons of Elmer's glue, a pair of large chicken feet and some cardboard for beak material. I think you can see where I'm going with this. Wait around outside of the cabin and you be eating out of Martin's hand.
