Thanks for the shout out. One thing I'll add about finding these rising thermal lifts, is a method I like to use in semi-flat country to find them. I will walk creek banks, that are at least partially forested, in the middle of summer. As you walk along the creek you will hit an area where it's just noticeably cooler. That is an area where the thermals are doing something different. what I find in flat ground or semi-flat ground is that most of the air is rising up the hillsides in multiple directions, and then whether it's a small gully or something you'll just hit a spot where cooler air is rushing back into the bottom... hot air rises cooler air falls. And sometimes it isn't following the ground it's just coming directly downward or as I like to call a downdraft. to me that has been one of the best ways of finding them is to walk those creek bottoms, even at noon, in the summertime until I hit an area where I just feel the air is 5 to 10° cooler, or at least it feels like it. That's an area that I pay a lot of attention to. During peak movement, this same areas can have the reverse effect, all the surrounding hillsides are dumping down into them then at that location I find a lot of times the air is just going straight up. That is an area that can be exploited very well right at that crucial moment when thermals are starting to kick in for the day or in the evening time to exploit. The buck will definitely believe he has The thermals to his advantage not realizing that if that one spot the wind is not doing what he thinks it's doing until he gets there. It's not science, not fool proof, but it works enough to fool them to make it a tactic to look for.

I got so much to learn. I thought I knew thermals but I think there's more I don't know then do know. Thanks for the great podcast. Any recommendations on what to check out on more of the advanced thermal tactics? I could watch this all day.

Hi Beau! This question is for you. I know you like hunting those creek bottoms. How do you know what that wind will be doing at your stand before you even get to it? Before you even leave ur truck? It would be very disheartening to drive to a spot, then hike to your stand only to discover that the wind is not doing what you hope it would be doing?

GREAT info!! I have a question though regarding thermals with no wind influence. Rising (warm) thermals to be specific. I 100% get that dropping/cooling thermals will follow the ground down hill like water would flow. BUT where do rising thermals go? Do they follow the ground up hill OR do they go vertically straight up???? Again this question refers to no other stuff influencing air currents beside thermals. THANKS!!
