This Nebraska team isn't even in the top 5 all time. The '91Washington Huskies were MUCH better than this one dimensional team on both sides of the ball. When your two best receivers are Clester Johnson and Reggie Baul with less than 40 catches between both of them, you're not going to be the best team of all time. They were a great team, don't get me wrong, but they played a bunch of cupcakes all year and met a soft Florida team at the end that wasn't able to handle them on the ground. A great team would have forced them to throw more, and they would have had all sorts of problems. Heck, the 2001 Oregon State Beavers would have probably beat this team, as well as the 2001 Canes.

That team had such insane depth at running back. Both Lawrence Phillips and Ahman Green were All American caliber players; and Clinton Childs and Damon Benning were both good enough to be starters at other programs. Childs rushed for 143 yards in this game. The second leading rusher for the Huskers that season? QB Tommie Frazier.

I will always cherish the experiences with Nebraska football from celebrating as a child with my grandparents at 72 and Dodge after the 70 and 71 championships from coach Osborne pulling me out of class for a football conversation. I was thinking "WTF just happened??" to watch this now I think is the first time I've ever seen it from another angle. Childs looked like he was out there running at about 60 mph down the field, no wonder we missed it in person haha. Wow the memories...

BadLeaders Nu actually graduated a lot of great players after 1994, including 4 starting offensive linemen, and 3 starting defensive linemen, not to mention CB Barron Miles, S Kareem Moss, FB Cory Schlesinger, etc. Normally a team losing all that in the trenches doesn’t get better. 1995 Nebraska was actually very young in the trenches, but they just reloaded with superb talent that would carry the team through to preseason #1 ranking in 1996 and another national title in 1997.

@bryan buhrman I'm not an ASU fan. I was just making an observation about strength and conditioning. Something NU used to claim as an edge and will hopefully get back some day so we don't have to watch 25 year-old clips about what real football looks like. Actually don't know why I bother any more, since every other NU fan I run into online seems to act like a jerk. Maybe they don't deserve relevance again. "Best fans" my ass.

Without Tommie Frazier and Lawrence Phillips and key Offensive Linemen and Defensive players that graduated, they were a COMPLETELY different team. @maubunky1 What. In 96, Neb scored 55 the week before and 65 the week after. Every team almost all unranked scored on ASU in 96. The 96 flop was all on Neb's back for not showing just like FL didn't 2 games before on the same field. In 96, Neb's SOS was 5, in 95, it was 24. When faced with tougher opponents, sugar coating won't happen.
