This is fantastic. My father was at this game as a member of the Pride of Oklahoma marching band. He’s told me stories about his trip to Lincoln that year. Lol. The Nebraska/OU rivalry is one of the best rivalries ever. I think all Oklahoma alumni wish it could come back. I would argue that there is no Oklahoma fan who hates Nebraska. It was never a rivalry of hatred. And that’s a tribute to the good people of Nebraska. We absolutely miss playing Nebraska, and I miss this rivalry.

very cool story. 2 amazing teams with so many close games with the Sooners creating many miracles!

My first time attending a Nebraska/OU game was in 1966 when OU won in an upset 10-9. I was also at the Game of the Century. Mildren’s pass to Harrison with just over a minute to go was barely overthrown (right in front of me). The Nebraska fans were always good sports, and the games typically had few penalties.

Wow!! Remember that Colt 45 commercial with the guy sitting on the ice during the hockey game. The Oklahoma/Nebraska game was must watch television back then. Don’t remember much of this game as I did the year before.

Funny to hear "regularly scheduled programming will not be seen." Hardly like ABC would have had soap operas scheduled regularly for Thanksgiving or Black Friday.

revenge was sweet! For almost 3 decades it was the greatest rivalry in college football. So many great players, coaches and teams. As an Oklahoma fan I miss those days with Nebraska. Great fan base.

Incredibly Chuck Fairbanks and Ray Hamilton would be Patriots together and become part of one of the most controversial calls in NFL playoff history. 1976 New England at Oakland.

I was at this game. My mom wasn't mad at the loss, but was livid at the fans booing Coach Devaney during his last home game.

As a Nebraska fan I remember listening to the talk about the game on KOMA radio which was barely discernible from all the static. It was a great rivalry until the longhorns ruined it.

This game was two years before I was born. Me er seen this broadcast on KZbin before. But I did watch Fleming on Sunday morning College Football Replay on ABC back in the late 70s and early 80s. I grew up in Alabama and the Iron Bowl played in Birmingham was the rivalry game in the SEC not just the State. But I shared so many memories of this sport with Dad watching this rivalry and so many other great teams through the 20th century. I was disappointed when this rivalry was swallowed up by the Big 12 schedule after 1996. And Nebraska stayed strong throughout the 90s through 2001 while OU faded in the 90s having that great 2000 season before Nebraskas national title appearance in 2001. But Nebraska was no match for Miami or Colorado in the reg season and after that year of Eric Crouch winning the Heisman, they weren't in a national title game again. Hard to believe. OU had a successful decade but ran into very string LSU and USC in title games. This rivalry, the Thanksgiving ABC college game will go down as one of the best of all time. Nothing like the 1971 game of the century and those great games in the 80s, ABC and CBS shared in the memories.

As a young kid I remember this and thought it was so exciting I could not believe it! Great game and times during some tough US times in Vietnam and the previous summer's terrorist attacks at the Olympics

If they did that doesn't mean they'll be a power in college football, just like around 1995

Strange seeing that wishbone formation. I guess it makes sense when you're a run heavy offense.
