I'm 66 years old, so I've been watching Nebraska football for 60 years. Eric Crouch is the toughest player I have ever seen at Nebraska. He took unreal hits over and over. I always thought this is the time he won't get up, but he got up every time.
@rooh5825 Жыл бұрын
I believe Eric Crouch was better than Tommy Frazier. Frazier benefited from legendary coach Osborne, a defense that was insanely good (including 1995 where 7 of the defensive backs made it to the NFL), incredible offensive line, ultra talented running backs, and Frazier didn't have a coach who keyed in on ONLY his QB's offensive talents. When you look at the load the QB carried, for Crouch compared to Frazier, I forget the exact percentages but Crouch did nearly double the work that Frazier did with respect to the overall percentage of offensive production. I think you swap Frazier and Crouch, Crouch wins two national titles, Frazier might win the Heisman, hard to say, I don't know that he was as tough. Crouch on the other hand, every bit as talented as Frazier, just didn't have the supporting cast. ***As I say this, I will admit that 1999's defense was decent for Nebraska, but it wouldn't compare to the 94-97 defenses.

Funny thing about Iowa and Nebraska is, yes they are geographically close, but besides stealing recruits from each other's states, there's not as much recruiting overlap as one would think. Nebraska recruits to the south and to the west, and Iowa recruits to the north and to the east.

Probably the most talented team in Nebraska history, lead the nation in turnovers and were still in the national title hunt the entire year. Literally gave away the national title due to carelessness with the ball. The 95 team was supremely disciplined but probably not as talented top to bottom...this 99 team had all the seniors from Nebraskas best recruiting class in program history and a future heisman winner.

"The Big 8/12 were weak, that's why Nebraska has been so bad in the Big 10" This game in particular, and others like this game, show how dumb that statement is. If Nebraska had joined the Big 10 in the mid 1990s, they would have still rattled off multiple national titles and destroyed the Big 10 just like they did 8/12. It gets aggravating listening to fans of Big 10 teams, particularly Iowa (they should know better) try to act like the Big 10 was so much tougher. Nebraska dominated everyone in the 90's, didn't matter what conference.

@@ralfigs But what is being good in his offense? Making lots of yards without scoring. Being good in his offense has been meaningless.
@ralfigs3 жыл бұрын
@@davebartels612 Frost's? Yes it's perplexing. Most teams even Tom Osborne's teams had goal line RedZone packages. You cannot run that spread offense in tight space. Even novice football 🏈 fans understand that concept. Frost's offenses are great outside the 20s. He has no type of RedZone offense. That is the difference in the games in my opinion.
