@Yipper64 meta is trying to do this with their smart Ray-bans. I like to think the quest 3 is built for collecting Mixed Reality data, to have a more refined product in a few more years, while they figure out how to miniaturize the display tech for the glasses.

Yup, the commercial potential of AR is huge. Not just retail, but imagine architecture or engineering firms being able to render buildings and bridges in their actual spaces for the clients. Just the pancake lenses alone have to be a crazy good upgrade. I've only tried pancake lenses on Pico 4 in a store and was blown away by how it is way more like looking through a window instead of having all of those visual artefacts from fresnel lenses like in Quest 1 and 2. On top of that the resolution increase from Q1 to Q3 has to me massive as well for you. (From Quest 2 not too much.)

Yup, clunky headsets today, stylish XR glasses tomorrow. When smartphones become strong and fast enough they'll probably be all you need to power the glasses for AR/VR/MR, kinda like the Rokid, Xreal and PCVR, but then wireless, a bigger FOV, cheaper headsets, but more expensive phones xD. Today: PC + screen = 1500$, tomorrow: Mobile + headset = 1500$....

I believe, for the general person, entertainment in AR, and office work, doing work in AR is where you will hit the jackpot, because while VR is amazing, most people still want to be connected with the real world around them, VR’s main use scenario right now is only virtual meetings and gaming which most people dont care about. I have never owned a meta quest but when I saw that the quest 3 is gonna have a legit augmented reality, now im thinking…Oh yeah im buying that. This is becoming real, most would laugh and say Oh ill never buy that. But the same thing happened with smartphones. I bet my life savings everyone will own some augmented reality device in the next 10-20 years. Especially now that these big companies like Apple are getting into this field. Its gettin real folks.

Until recently, I never considered that Mixed Reality (MR) was something I'd be interested in. However, as I've been contemplating it more and watching videos like yours, my perspective has begun to shift. I primarily use my Quest for Fitness, and now I can envision the potential of incorporating fitness apps that utilize free weights, resistance bands, or an exercise bike within the realm of MR. Picture this: watching a movie on a grand MR screen where the snowfall in the film is mirrored by virtual snowfall in your actual surroundings, or immersing yourself in a horror movie where eerie shadows seem to come alive in your room. And then there's the intriguing concept of PianoVision, designed to aid in learning how to play the piano. It's becoming increasingly clear why Meta, is so enthusiastic about pursuing it. As always, thank you for the video.

@@DjR3aper A better question is, “Why both when you can just use one?” Why fix something that isn’t broken lol. Instead of just taking your phone out of your pocket and saying “hey siri, _____”, you’re telling me you’d rather either wear a headset all day for a chance to need it, or wait until it’s needed, put it on, power it on, then search? It’s cool, but realistically, unless you’re someone who needs 3+ monitors at all times, doesn’t care about their comfort, and is okay with being plugged into a power source all day, it’s completely unnecessary and inconvenient in every way.

Wonder if Meta will develop software to use this like AR glasses where ever you go. Like if you go grociery shopping it can help be a navigator in a store using AI and have a check list for things you are adding to your basket. Like commands for instance, "Hey Quest, can you help guide me to where the cookies are?" Using AI and the scene around you, it can help give a guided estimate, check lists like, "Hey Quest, here is a grociery shopping list I wrote," show it to the device, "Can you add a following check list that writes off each item I add to my basket?" Using AI and the cameras with object recognition it just checks it off on the list with each item added. So much potential to use mixed reality in our daily lives. Even if its a headset that isn't the form factor of glasses.

Yes, I've wanted supermarket x-ray vision AR for about 10 years now. You fill out what you want in your app at home, go the [app-known] store, and you can see all of the items right through the shelves, like power-ups in a game that show through walls. You can walk right to each thing in perfect order, and still see everything else around you clearly.

I think good MR/AR is going to be what takes VR to the next level of user growth by providing a bridge between getting comfortable with the equipment and getting acclimated to being in that isolated environment. That is what may even make AR better in VR in some ways. All the benefits of VR in the world we interact with for real. I can say I wasn't really that excited about it until the past week or so, but if it looks as good as it looks like it looks, then I can see that gaining traction and the Q3 selling pretty well. I dig VR, but I understand that it's not very approachable in a sense. It's just now recently getting affordable enough to be a consumer grade product and has generated a real decent sized community. But, it's a shock. First there's just getting used to hearing the headset. It takes getting use to. So you're already experiencing something like discomfort. Then, for me, it isn't even the stepping into the VR world, but the disconnect from the "real" world that can make it eerie or provides a sense of isolation or vulnerability. IDK if I'd prefer AR/MR to VR as I've never really experienced good MR/AR. I have the Quest 2 and I had both of the Samsung Gear VRs when they were out. But, like the video said, most MR/VR were like demos and such. I've not really bothered to try any AR with the Quest 2 because, really what's the point? The VR is better at recreating the room than having to look at what passthrough displays. It'll be a year at least till I get the Quest 3. Maybe a little less, but I like to wait for some of the initial real world bugs QA just doesn't catch to get fixed. I am pretty excited to see what happens between now and then.

Mixed reality is the meta verse. That’s what people don’t get … the meta verse isn’t dead and in fact this is the beginning of it . The possibilities are endless . For example you could have a radio that hangs on the wall but it’s really a podcast app and you walk up and tap it and it plays a show or displays a podcast playlist . Or have what looks like an lcd tv hanging on the wall but it’s really a launcher for Plex… the possibilities are limited only by your imagination and I’m honestly shocked no one has mentioned this . Sure Zuck mentioned having a portal on the wall for that exercise app or whatever but that’s just low level basic thinking. I want an image of a tv and what looks like a stereo on a shelf but when you click it an entire list of songs shows up etc . The possibilities only end at the imagination…

Your enthusiasm is great, but it's going to take some ISO sensor improvements so lower light is not a grain fest (based on BB demo). You need very good light for it to be good- not great. Guessing it would have been a lot more expensive for the needed ISO/sensor improvements. Q3 looks better though than the Pico 4, since the image has depth. Huge improvement in that regard. Added: It's appreciated that the ads Meta are showing are not really through the set, but kind of deceiving since pass-through does not look that good through the actual set.

The fact that there's a setup process for the room hints that you won't be able to just walk from your living room into your bedroom and see a virtual TV on the wall in the bedroom. They said at the connect, that the Quest 3 is able to "remember" several rooms. And as far as i remember, they showed a "3d map" of a house, when the said that. So i understood, that you can easely go through your house, without losing the setup...

Not sure on mixed reality yet. Have to try it first. Has amazing potential and will be useful but it’s up to the devs to make it work well. Practically though, just being able to read a phone to see an email or password will save a lot of hassle. I’d also like to see an option to change how much is used in certain games. Eg when I play tennis I have a low pendant light in my guardian area so can’t serve over arm easily, I normally have to do it underarm. With mixed reality hopefully I could see where the light is above but also the court in front. I’m really surprised I have not smashed it by now! 😂

Just like now, the best approach to recording playing VR in real time is using an external camera (plus a window for screen capture). Sven capture might be a bit complicated by the passthrough into the game though, but I think it should just be a1-to-1 transfer

I want full on MR theatre where people have their lines from the script running down the side of their screen, and everyone acts and reads these plays or movies. Neil Stephenson invented this in his book, The Diamond Age (1995). And I'll be alive to see it and act in it! Now, someone needs to read the book, and take action!

Maybe in a future video you can see if there are ways to address privacy issues with the new mixed reality.

Only motion sick inducing if your unfortunate enough to be highly affected by it, most people they get motion sick for the first week or so of using the device and then after a week they are fine, this was my case, first week it knocked me proper sick, now I can spin around in circles in real life while doing flips or something in the game and I'm great xD
