It's great to have someone with your level of experience as a working cinematographer providing a through technical review with an honest and practical assessment of the pros and cons of this camera. Based on your other product reviews, I have come to trust your judgement and opinions since you clearly backup and visually demonstrate your conclusions. I'm looking forward to your next video.

you sold me.. im going to have to buy that book.. great review on the camera by the way :) And one more thing seriously. I think everyone who shoots and edits their own stuff should take at LEAST a weeks time to research audio engineering and how it works (not implying this is you). Throwing a compressor or a limiter on the audio bus alone is a major Godsend. Also the main benefit of the miniXLR ports that many film makers don't get is for interference issues. The 3rd prong essentially works as a noise cancellation route (as opposed to a 2 ring mini jack).

Great informative video. I found your channel some time last week and really enjoy your professional take on gear. I find you one of the most interesting presenters to listen to and have been following you for a while, not a lot of videos I noted, and then you went quiet. Now I find that you've been active and there are a lot more videos than what I came across earlier. I feel like I've been in the Twilight Zone. Old video, I know, but great nonetheless, like your video of the ZCAM. If you're still reading this... would you choose the ZCAM S6 or the 6K PRO in 2024 for indie / low budget narrative short films at a similar price (used, around $1200/$1400)? Third option, albeit expensive, would be the FX30 but does not inspire me that much...

I didn't test autofocus. Ran out of time as I had the camera for only a few days. I have read how some do use autofocus to initially set focus, the proceed to roll camera.

The tint on the ND filters is on purpose and nonexistent when used correctly. Cinema Chimp covers it well here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIbLqGSbnputidU And there’s a statement about it from BM. The ND filters are professional grade and extremely high quality.
@cinemak17593 жыл бұрын
First off, I did not mention the standard production protocal to white balance the camera with each scene. Going to 6 stops of ND you would normally white balance the camera. If you do not know standard professional production procedures then you should learn them. Other reviewers mentioned a blue cast, and yes there is a blue cast without doing a custom white balance. Second, I believe I said the biggest imnprovement to the camera is internal NDs. It's a blessing and completely elevates a disruptive camera. Blackmagic did provide professional filters for the camera- simply try using cheap ND filters as comparison. Are they perfect? No, but absolutely usable and i wouldn't even think about the very slight blue cast at all to be honest. There will be many other problems to deal with on set. Now to your point- Google Arri Alexa LF Internal ND filter blue tint. Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money developing full spectrum color neutral neutral density filters. Key phrase- "full spectrum color neutral". A single Arri FSND neutral density filter, PV size, cost $670 at B&H. There are 8 filters in a full set of ND's. Do the math. Naturally Arri has a behind the lens filter module too. Blackmagic apparently "stacks" ND's to achieve 6 stops of attenuation. Very typical technique. Does the stacking of two NDs produce less than full spectrum color neutral attenuation? I don't know, I didn't test for it. Usually it does, which is why we have so many NDs on bigger budget productions. BUT, the results are usually excellent with most cameras that have internal NDs, so no one gets bent out of shape over it. Now, have marketing/advertising departments ever twist things around to benefit their products? You decide. But it's only for internet blabber because the ND's on the BMPCC6K Pro work great and I wouldn't worry about a very slight color cast- your lens set may have a greater color cast difference between lenses. As I said, there are many other things to worry about.
