I'm about to order the BMPCC4k and one of the things I have been struggling with is what lens to get it. I definitely wanted a Prime Cine lens but wasn't sure what to get. I have been eyeing the SLR Magic T/0.95 25mm but I'll wait until I can hear your review of this lens before making a choice. My question would be how sharp is the lens wide open at T/2.2? That was the primary reason for me thinking about the SLR Magic lens is that while soft wide open, it is sharp from 1.2 and up.
@OfTwoLands5 жыл бұрын
Originally I had the Veydra lenses in mind then the SLR Magic since I like their lenses and the 25mm looked great. But then when Meike announced theirs I had to get one. The price is too good too. I found it to be sharp but not overly sharp wide open. I like soft lenses anyway but this one felt just right. Not too soft not too sharp. The built is really nice too and it was really fun to use.

This looks really nice. Although the lens is not really that sharp. For instance at 1:23 and 1:45, the distant buildings look a bit blurry with the shadows looking a bit muddy. I have a Super Takumar 50 (or 55mm) that looks similar but it cleaner, but retains a dreamy look. I use it on BMPCC4k. The Super Takumar is under $100 when used, but it looks, in some ways, even nicer than my new Panasonic 12-35mm. The Takumar is not that sharp either, but it just looks pretty all the time.

@OfTwoLands5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching !! And yes I do own a C200 as well. I was actually thinking of doing a video on that. I think they match up quite nicely and have used the Pocket as B cam for certain projects where the C200 was the A cam. I use the Canon for documentary work and interview etc and keep the Pocket for travel, gimbal work and video licensing. I would say the differences are mostly about the specs and type of camera more than the image. I do love the look of Super 35 sensor on the C200. Hope this answers your question a bit.

@i_am_groot45115 жыл бұрын
Yes the 12-35 is very versatile I agree. The depth of field is not very shallow, so get a vintage m42 like a takumar to go with it and a m42 to m4t adapter, don’t need speedbooster. I did a parkour video mostly all on the 12-35. But will make the 4K version soon with the vintage also. 12-35 very good all round master and like two lands said it has the stabilisation. Beautiful film, as always from you! :) It might be just me, but camera-wise I feel the new BMPCC 4K does not produce as ”soulful”, ”filmlike” or organic look as the original BMPCC. The old one had extraordinarily emotional color science, almost as with Arri Alexa series of cameras. Of course a lot is made in grading phase, but still - have others noticed this kind of more flat and soul-less look from the 4K version? Almost as if shot with Sony cameras.
@OfTwoLands5 жыл бұрын
Thank you !! It definitely doesn’t have the look of the original pocket but i wouldn’t say like Sony cameras haha. It’s more digital in some way but still very cinematic and ‘creamy’. With grading and a bit of grain you can get pretty close to the original pocket and in 4K.
