FBD allows you to do performance mods so long as you provide a letter from the mechanic saying its roadworthy Non-Performace mods (Wheels, Wraps, etc) dont need notification so long as they dont affect the performance of the car

I'd be curious to know if he's uprated the clutch and flywheel. If he hasn't whilst I know the OEM software map is created within certain safe tolerances to allow better longevity of parts, strictly speaking you should when you're mapping something to that extreme you should uprate your clutch, flywheel and brakes or face big bills down the line. Plus I wonder if he's declared it to the insurance and how much extra it has cost?

@@jagman84 you'll get insurance for anything as long as it's stock. Getting insurance for anything with modifications is damn near impossible so most people who remap don't bother declaring it to their insurance company because the odds of it being detected is low.

@@Smithy350 what’s the story with vrt, I presume the vrt was paid based on the car being factory tuned to a certain co2 and nox emission amount, could you possibly be liable to pay more now that’s it’s being tuned? Also could it possibly fail nct if it’s out of spec? (Genuinely not having a go, thought about getting this done before but was reluctant due to possible complications down the road)

@@rapidrick hey man not at all. I'll be honest I'm not sure. When I got the car from the dealer it was bone stock apart from the previous owner replacing the run flats with regular michelin pilot sport 4 tyres. After hearing about the budget 2021 announcement I'm not sure what's going to happen. Worst case scenario I can get the stock map put back on the car when going in for nct in 2 years time. Externally the car looks the exact same as any other f30 3 series

@@benno19891 massive difference. I actually ended up going with mgflasher and getting a downpipe for the car. Combined power was more than 400hp and 700nm. You could definitely feel a difference in power too with and without the charge in the battery

You can run it off petrol. Ive bought one recently and thats what ive been doing. Especially since i havent been doing much driving with lockdown. I havent actually charged it at all since i got it. In saying that, the car while running on petrol will somewhat charge the battery automatically. Ive heard if the car is in sports mode it has a good rate of charging the battery

Have one about a year - yeah you can, but there's literally no point in doing that. You're just lugging around 200 kilos of battery and electric motor for no good reason over a 328i. The hybrid grunt and range are really good so if you do buy one, definitely pony up the extra 500 quid for a charger for your house.

Hey Bob, Had a 'mechanic' cash in hand work on my car, doing brake disks, pads, and engine oil change, The car was damaged as the Jack collapsed as he was jacking it up, Oil leaked after he finished the job, had to redo it, Then I come to find I now have a Brake management light on centre console. before this we agreed a rate, but he had the audacity to ask for more, because of the issues, whats your opinion on this? thanks

@@Minime7k depends on how heavy your right foot is. If you end up not really using the electric motor around 30mpg. If using just the electric motor around the city 99.9. I usually leave it in auto and I'm getting mid 40s average. Now since my daily commute to work and back is less than 20kms I can just use battery power and end up filling up the car once a month. The fuel tank is about the same size as a fiesta at around 42 liters. I suppose that's the only thing you really need to look out for compared to a standard 3 series which would have a much bigger tank. It just depends on how you drive it. In my focus st diesel after that was mapped I could easily get 60mpg rather than 50mpg. With petrol engine not so much. Hope that answered your question Mark 😊

Whats the downside of remapping the ECU? I presume the insurance co is kept in the dark. Does mpg not suffer, emissions rise? Presume his warranty is toast

Downside is over time the car has a little more wear and tear from working a little harder but this is a fresh car so it may be years and years before anything could wear out a little faster (if even). I remember all the diesel lads chipping and remapping and mpg didnt suffer too badly of u dont change ur driving style. Emissions rise only as u floor it more and hence use more petrol. Warranty is gone if they find out for sure but on the drivetrain and battery. The warranty for other things is still good though (I saw from owners comments on here he bought in Frank Keane, i too bought mine there and they confirmed to me go at it and remap if i want but their warranty is drasrically reduced. Anything that goes wrong that can be attributed to remap will be their get out on covering it. I suppose though i wouldnt worry too much on wear and tear as they are the same engine in 530e and newer 330e and give out 280+hp from same setup so strong enough that he'll probably not run into any problems.

Ah right i mistook it that u did as it was mentioned something about it in an earlier comment. Basically they said that anything on the warranty that is caused by wear and tear won't be covered unless its a failure that should never have gone, and that they also wouldn't take it in as a trade in in the future (which is understandable). I had an f10 520d before this g30 530e and it had some warranty stuff like on basics and they were excellent for warranty service so i think youd be fine in general bringing to a bmw garage and them being fair in return. Just don't lie to them as they can tell its had something done once it gets to a diagnostic step.

if you commute say 15 miles and have a charger at work then it allows you to do 100% of your commuting on electric only and then only burn petrol when you go on longer journeys, actually works quite well in that situation. If you do long journeys a lot then yes it is a waste of time and you'll be greener buying a pure diesel or big battery EV...

Teslas were designed by people who cycle to work. Unimaginative cars, especially the new model 3 one. Looks like a 2000s mazda 3 saloon got a facelift. If u want to drive a car and have fun and occasionally turn left or right instead of a straight line you don't consider a tesla.

Very true. Been in a Model S as a passenger and thats about it. Similarly to how u most likely have bot been in or owned a BMW 330e either i assume. You and I can go on reviews and internet views. The Teslas are made for America where you have muscle cars go in a straight line. Teslas are great like many fast cars at straight lines. They get hammered in reviews for every day driving if you are a car lover. Important note. If u like dynamic driving, a sporty feel, a drivers car, then no one buys a Tesla. They are a statement in Model s form of having a lot of money (hey more power to ya) and being into novelty and gadgets. The controls dont make sense from driver perspective,the steering lacks all feedback, the interiors are shitty for the price point and very american (they dont have a patch on euro cars). So now Porsche has a Taycan Turbo s electric car that beats anything Tesla has to offer and handles i think there will be a new electric car for people to go on about.

@@tdikeith Well Keith, if you mourn the arrival of synchromesh for gearboxes then that's up to you. I have driven cars with no synchromesh on 1st and 2nd gear and the visceral driving experience starts to wear thin real quick. A BMW 330e in city traffic is about as involving to drive as a the laughably named Porsche Taycan "Turbo". Hint, it doesn't have a turbo. Of course BMW 330e's in traffic may have another kind of drama for the driver, in that they have a propensity to catch fire. Which is why there is a global recall on them and owners are advised not to use the tacked on electric car tax avoider mechanism. Because let's be honest, that's exactly what a 330e and it's ilk has been built to be, a modern version of the 1980s 1994 c.c. Turbo. A real actual turbo in this case, to avoid the higher car tax on bigger engined vehicles while delivering similar performance. PHEV = car tax saving. Most of them have never seen a charging plug in their lives. I know you have asserted your knowledge of a Tesla Model 3 when never having driven or even been a passenger in one - but I have to say I have indeed driven in, been a passenger in, both a 330e and it's bigger brother, the 530e. And very nice they are too, if pricey for what you get. Nothing wrong with them (apart from the previously mentioned catching fire) but in another 10 years, they will be gone, never to return. And the 330e only comes with an auto 'box, not a driver focused manual with six clutch actuated gears for the driving professional to pretend they are Formula One drivers. Oh and Formula one cars are automatics these days too. Give it five years maximum and Formula One cars won't be hybrids any more either, they will be electric. There may even be a team run by Tesla but they won't bother to stick a driver in them, Tesla's can drive themselves don'tcha know.
