The M5 is generally undrivable in the states. own a 550 ix and before an M5. Got nothing to do with affordability. Just a more comfortable day to day car, unless you just want to be a showoff and the envy of other petrolheads in your neighborhood.

Me too. They're taking the car around on roadshows at the moment. I will be seeing it on the 24th of May in Philly. They are showing it to loyal customers (you are either in an M5 or 550 ix now).

No breaking period, but you are advised to let the warm up process happen each time you start up cold for the first 2000 miles. Yes, got the whole works on the car. Almost 90k, but has all the conceivable extras offered on it.

Great review Thomas! I own a 2014 550i xDrive and love it, although I wish I could drive it properly on the Autobahn, but sadly in the US we are constrained to 65 MPH on crappy, pothole infested roads up here in the northeast. Looks like this is an improvement on an already great car. Cheers.

After 4 months of ownership, I finally reached the end of the 1000 mile break-in period. Now for the fun part. Mild mannered Clark Kent wrapper with Superman potential is how to best describe this M550. Loud when you want; quiet when you need to be a grown up. Added the 20” 5 spoke wheels, a must to give this classically designed sedan some attitude. All black of course. Didn’t know what to expect when I purchased it, but it is truly an enjoyable automobile. Beastly and scary when it throws you back in your seat with a tromp of the right pedal. The old-school V8 rumble feels a bit American vs German. So far, I’m happy with the purchase.

Very elaborated video, I really enjoyed watching! Just love this very BMW M550i, great, elegant colour and fabulously beautiful alloy wheels. And I absolutely second your opinion - I would always go for this one rather than the M5. The latter is just far too aggressive both sound- and stylingwise and lacks every elegance. No matter what size is your bank account - one should always stick to a certain level of understatement.

My 2019 M550i xDrive is my 6th BMW, and is BY FAR the best car I've ever owned. A perfect blend of luxury, elegance, agility and tremendous power. I tested the M5 Competition and rejected it because it was too noisy and stiff. I tested the 540i and it was underpowered. The M550i is perfection. It is not a car, but a precision instrument.

Great review Thomas, as usual:-) This is a beautiful car. I've owned two BMW's, first the E39 540i for 20 years- never got over it. Absolutely gorgeous engine with 4.4L v8. Now the F02 750Li xdrive. Just feel that there are so many technological features in today's cars...it's almost crazy:-)!!! Thanks for the review. Keep it up👍

750Li perhaps not a good choice, 540 is really a good car especially comfortable enough but agile in corners, 750 without L version does still struggles at 200+ in corners, Long wheel base i imagine would be worse although i only drove 750i but you can't go wrong anyway with a BMW

Not a big fan of BMW but I really like how they've done the blank buttons for missing equipment next to the gear lever. On some cars like mercedes you can see that the buttons are missing for some equipmen and in a 100k e class that looks bad

Absolutely gorgeous, and thanks for the very informative video. I'm going to look for a Mediterranean Blue with Tortufo Merino full leather in about 2-3 years. MSRP is almost $100k USD right now for a loaded version. I feel pretty confident I can find the build I want for no more than $50k. Depreciation can be a wonderful thing when you're not the one taking the hit!

I must confess! If "I" wanted to buy a sporty car here in America, it's either a Caddy or a German brand since as of this model year, The U.S. does not make a interior large enough for my height! I'm 6'4" tall and am disappointed with all U.S. makers of cars since nobody makes a decent car for taller folks anymore! I do however LOVE this 550 BMW!

It ran over the bag because it's not just the ultrasonic PDC sensors that it relies on but also the Connected Drive Camera that's mounted in front of the rear view mirror in combination of the radar settings, that didn't detect that bag. I think it's also the software that didn't detect that it was a human being or another car to solidify the remote control parking feature.

@@videoMYcar I did purchase my G30 new but this is what issues I had along the way. The G30 suffered alot with the Air conditioner evaporator under the dash, I would recommend to ask if it's been replaced before. Mine has failed twice now and BMW has covered it both times. Passengers side engine mount factory standard one can be weak with the diesel engine. Interior wise nothing failed and I'm very respectful to my car so I treat the leather seats 1 per week and vaccum the car fortnightly and wash her weekly. I had and have two BMW the went over 200,000km. My F10 had no issues until 230,000km with the water pump failing my current car the G30 on the issues listed above and its at 200,891km

I had and F10 M5 and an F10 550. The 550 was a better riding, quieter, everyday car. The gearbox in the M5 was not up to par w the rest of the car, it was noisy when on the phone. I've raced cars professionally for 25 years and none of these big ass sedans are good track cars. I just ordered an M550i from BMW of Murrietta and am excited that BMW built something between the last two F10s I owned.

Everyone including BMW says that it's faster than the outgoing M5 0-60. However, I recall a lot of tests and KZbin videos showing that the outgoing M5 did 0-60 in 3.7. So it's kinda false advertisement. I'm sure the M550i with xDrive is quick and a great car. I just don't want BMW tricking ppl into buying this now based on that alone because the next M5 is around the corner.

Great review as always. BMW had better do something about the remote parking feature as you showed it is not 100% working as it should when it ran over that bag the first time round. They should do a firmware or software update for all cars that have this feature as soon as possible.

Thomas, the reason the interior sound has so much bass is because most of it is fake. It's synthesized engine noise (not piped in recorded noise as others have thought) but actually synthesized and piped in through the speakers. It's too bad. Sounds artificial.

mercecdes and audi pipe the engine sound itself into the cabin with engineering. BMW explicitly plays fake noise through the speakers. I think i know which one is more "dishonest"

"Pipe" in what way? The bmw also reads the engine to dynamically produce the sound. If pipe through means just open a hole to make the sound louder then it's obviously not synthetic, but I know for sure that at least some Audis just use the speakers.

The car looks great and sounds great from the outside but, based on the video, I am unsure about the engine sound from inside. But I know that we cannot fully judge the sound from a recorded video. Still, my current favourite BMW for both interior and exterior sound is the BMW M2.

Tnx Tomas One more you did a good job and a good review of BMW May I give some suggestion about bootlid closing force: If you use a torque/force instrument and put in on the striker, then press automatic closing button on the bootlid and wait until bootlid hit the instrument you will get approx force for the bootlid. I think the force will be 70-90 Nm which is ok. Greetings from Sweden!

I had the F10 and just got the new G30. No regrets and its really an amazing car and worth the upgrade if you decide to do so. However i had my f10 for almost 5 years and covered 130K kms on mine. Perhaps its better for you to use your f10 for a few years before considering a new car as the depreciation hit would be more tolerable then. As a tip i suggest regular oil change as the f10 528 engine i had was not all great with the recommended bmw oil change interval at aprrox 25k kms ! they later revised that number down to 12k km.
