BMW 633 CSI and Mercedes 208 tug. Custom restoration of Siku models.

In 1978, the Siku company released two iconic models of German cars on the toy market. One of them was a BMW 633 CSI, and the other was a Mercedes 208 tow truck. The Mercedes was in good condition, but I didn't like its color scheme at all. The BMW was badly damaged and had factory wheel axles that were too long. I made repairs and painted in my colors. Additionally, I made stickers of the German ADAC Roadside Assistance on a Mercedes. I also made copies of the boxes. The Siku brand is just as you said. "Budget" toys. Plastic chassis' and indifferent fitting doors. Plastic wheels with no rims, requiring decals. You made both models look better than Siku ever made them. I really feel watching restorations of "Budget" cast and plastic component models that for all the effort expended, a finer Solido, Dinky, Corgi, Mercury, or Spot On model would better reward you for a finished project. nice, love the colours and the decals for the BMW wheels. :) as one can see, SIKU liked to experiment here and there. the door spring for example, reminds me of Majorette, and the separate bumper pieces look a lot like Corgi... there also was one model with a plastic leaf spring much like Matchbox, and for a while some models had hollow stainless-steel rivets you could re-use a couple times.

@@PaulRestorer You can find them in older SIKU with the thick axles, before the "superfast" wheels came up, but not all of them had these rivets. right now I remember the VW Karmann Ghia, the Cadillac 62, and very early Opel Diplomat. You can easily detect them, they have a light golden shine while the rest is very oxydized. :)
