Great video. Thank you very much for sharing. I have a BMW 525D xdrive F11 2012 and lately i was worried for my differential. You are right about BMW service people if you ask to change the automatic ZF gear box or any oil change on a BMW they will tell it is a lifetime. Your video saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you very much. Keep on the good work:-))

Thanks for the video. But for F10 F11 you should use BMW certified differential oil. OEM BMW HypoidAxleOilG1 75W85.
@Juupke4 жыл бұрын
Thomassetty Hi, castrol is just as good, also you need to overfill the differential slightly, then let the car down and let it sit level until the oil starts dripping then you have the right oil level. As described and displayed in my video. Good luck!

The lifetime oil wasn't necessarily for owner appeasement. BMW offers free maintenance on new cars, so all of a sudden, oil change intervals were 10K and other fluids were lifetime.

After I saw you video I decided to do it on my 520d. Since I bought the car I have done 60000km so I was expecting that the old oil would be really black but it's not. It has the same golden color as the new one. How come your oil is black after just 20000km ???

Thanks for the excellent video and notes. Just to mention that your Bmw f10 has a non limited slip differential so you should have used Castrol syntrax long life 75w90 oil. The oil you used is designed for limited slip differentials but will also work in non limited slip differentials. I think it is important to point this out.

the viscosity of the original oil is 75W85 due to efficiency (that tiny drop less fuel consumption). For less wear and tear use the 75W140 like all BMW´s in the years before. Oils with non slip additives are not specifically needed in this case, but you can use these too.

You can do like what they used to do in the old days take a large mayonnaise jar half a gallon or gallon whatever you want make two holes in it large enough to put vacuum cleaner hose through one side that will extend into the bottom of the differential, the other hoes put it through the whole leaving it at the top of the lid barely going through you can seal it with silicone if you like, and attach it to the small end of your vacuum cleaner where it's got a crevice tool used for vacuuming between the seats you can put some tape to hold that in there temporarily and cover the rest of the hole in the crevice tool, use the vacuum from the vacuum cleaner to create a vacuum in the jar which will suck out the oil out of the differential and you can use the same process if you like for the oil change but there already is a old drain plug, most likely you can find the plugs you need online

dude, differentials dont need untill its min 50k miles-120k miles on passenger cars. That diff oil is black because factory replacement is dark in color.
@Juupke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for you feedback! Second thing could be, first thing regarding the interval I do not agree, in the first 100-1000 miles you drive a car the most wear and tear takes place, this goes into the oil. When changing the oil then you get rid of any iron particles and dirt in it by the production proces. On the other hand it only costs 30-40 dollar if you do it yourself so for me its worth it anyway for piece of mind.
@rayj333 жыл бұрын
@@Juupke In USA almost 90% of people doesnt know that AWD cars have differentials and as there is no service interval from factory, nobody ever changes them. Almost all the diffs last over 200k here lol. My Audi a4 B7 differential oil was never replaced untill 144k miles and I changed it when I bought the car. Its at 185k miles no problems lol.

🎉 Every 30.000 km diferencial oil change is NOT true, once in a lifetime maybe 😉 If we do every fluid change interval according to the manufacturer, then no one can afford a car anymore. Engine oil with oil filter, engine air filter, cabin filter, these are the most important intervals. Brake fluid, if the color is dark brown or green then change it, for me it lasted 10 years.
