I installed a Quaife about 10,000 miles ago. The one thing about having a dual purpose drain and fill plug is that you can't ensure that you get all sediment out when changing fluids. I'll be doing a change soon, but part of the process i go through will be getting a magnet into the bottom of the reservoir to find and remove any metal dust. That's the shit that wears everything down over time... Going to be a pain with the angle of the port though...

Hey Brian! Ur the best honestly I’ve been maintaining my bmw thru ur videos and im always more than satisfied with these visuals and instructions! Was wondering to, haven’t found a video on DIY transmission fluid change.. my car is at 160K and i was wondering if this is required to be replaced atm.

GL4 75w85 or GL5 75w90 ? BMW say one thing and Redline, Castrol and LiquiMoly say another thing. Is it different from a RWD than AWD ?
@maxwellkeeling37813 жыл бұрын
If there is one thing Brian has shown us is that the F series is quite easy to work on but the OEM BMW parts are $$$ 😂. You can use other 75w90 full synthetic diff oils that are significantly cheaper (can usually get 1qt of top branded oils on sale under $20 CDN) but YMMV and the BMW stuff is high qualitia either way. 50+K miles is a long time and $140 US isn't a bad investment either.

Oil inlet screw opened, small doctor syringe taken, sealant injected in and oil about half a liter. The whining became less, only when downshifting is it still there. 3 4 5 6 you can't hear anything anymore in 2nd gear the noise has become less and in 1st gear you can hear it even louder at full speed, the jerking at 140 km is gone, which I had before at 120 km

Thanks for producing another great DIY video. Man, what a bummer that the F30 diff doesn't have a separate drain plug. I mean...SERIOUSLY, BMW!!! BTW, that's a really cool light that you're using underneath the car. What is it? Is it just to provide better lighting for your videos, or is it something that would be good in the garage for the DIYer?

How much gear oil did you end up using? Looks like about 800-900mL unless you guys edited and cut to the 3rd bottle?
@that_ninja_jun Жыл бұрын
For anyone wondering; i just did this job on my 2016 435i GC. It took about 800-900ML, so just a bit less than a 1L bottle. I bought 2 bottles just incase, but have about 10-20% left of 1 bottle and an untouched bottle for the future

Can I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 75W90 for the rear differential in my 2013 BMW 335i with an N55 engine instead of the expensive BMW 75W85 fluid?
@JVR_Funwithdesign3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used Redline 75W90 in my F22. As long as it's GL5 and in the weight range you are fine. The one fluid that I stick with OE is the transmission. I used BMW manual fluid and it was pricey but it's not something you have to change regularly.

Just an FYI to all. Buy your BMW parts that KIES doesn't sell from BMW dealerships on the East Coast as they are much cheaper than the West Coast. It's still cheaper if you include the price of shipping.

Hey Brian! Can you please tell me, is the same oil suitable for front AND rear..? BMW gives a different part numbers for front and rear fluids..but is it the same stuff anyway?

I wonder how long it drained out after plug was removed, because some guys refill until it overfills then wait until it stops draining the extra fluid. But clearly from the factory there is more fluid than that. In reality we should overfill and immediately get the plug back in trying to lock in that extra fluid instead of letting it settle right below plug.
@gregcollins58652 жыл бұрын
Diff oil expands over time.It gets carbon build up, normal molecular expansion, metal, etc.. So even if you let it drain for an hour, you will get plenty of drainage when you pull the plug in a year.
@jojorodriguez3489 Жыл бұрын
Is it basically the same for g20? Make a video!
@NinjaTactiks3 жыл бұрын
Silly question, but could you reuse the same extractor that you use to pull the old stuff out or should you swap a fresh one in to avoid contamination?
@peterurban26503 жыл бұрын
I think there will be very low percentage of contamination, but in order to have 100% new clean fluid I think you need to use some kind of machine which is used for automatic transmissions fluid change.

I have had my m performance LSD for about 4,000-5,000 miles now. Would you recommend I change the fluid soon as it has now been ran in?
@TheDavididoff3 жыл бұрын
On a new LSD I would have changed the oil after 500-1000km. Then every year or 15-20K km. Because an LSD has lamella packages, which wear over the time. Not like an open Diff (shown here in the Video).
