I own an 850i (purchased the 850i in 1996). It has 68k miles is calypso red, automatic service it religiously and it has NEVER BEEN a problem. Young BMW owner's ask me if is a new model. Ahead of the times when it was introduced. Build quality is far better than the new BMW's.

how the f- does this 1989 car have features even most modern luxury cars lack? unbelievable machine
@Unknownuser15110 жыл бұрын
And those so called features that are not available now are?
@kuruptzZz10 жыл бұрын
Unknownuser151 don't be a smartass...I have a 2012 BMW 335i, and although it's almost fully specc'd (besides only the useless driving assistance crap) and 23 years newer, I don't have most of the features they mentioned in this video...advanced interior particle air filter (even filters bacteria), seat-integrated belts (safer and more comfortable), advanced tire pressure monitoring (more complex than my car), probably more things, I haven't seen this in like a year
@Unknownuser15110 жыл бұрын
kuruptzZz So what you meant to say is that your car does not have those features. Gotcha.
@kuruptzZz10 жыл бұрын
Unknownuser151 exactly, and since my car is a pretty well spec'd modern luxury car, most other modern luxury cars apply as well...I mean even a brand new BMW 7 series doesn't have the things I just mentioned, and that car is about $100K
@Unknownuser15110 жыл бұрын
kuruptzZz the seat belt in the seat is nothing special. BMW did it because the 8 series does not have a b pillar. Just about every convertible has that as well as most GM full sized SUVs. If you want to stick with BMWs just check out 6 series grand coupe. Just about every luxury car these days has an active carbon cabin filter. I have not seen a modern BMW that does not have TPM that tells you the individual pressure, it's a very common feature across all makes.

This is a great car. It's not "cheap" to maintain but no more than any other luxury car of those years. The car is not "slow" (try to keep up with one on the freeway), but it is not fast in the Ferrari/Porsche style. It is a great cruiser. One of the best things about this car is the community that supports them. That is as much fun as owning the car.

Bmw should make a better and new concept car who could give birth a new 8-series.

Doesnt matter if its Training Videos or Documentaries , Technical Videos or even the Develphment of each Car as far this is beiing Recorded , is off course an idividuall matter . I know there is a Video from the 8 Series in how its beiing Develophed but I Like to see more .. much more . Also from the E34 BMW 5 Series for example .. And the M5 E34 . If there is somebody out there who has these old Videos on VHS or something .. Upload !

and thats the story of my uncle....engine and engine harness failure... a perfect world for me is this car with a toyota hilux reliability in it my uncle although wealthy it was beating the shit out of his bank account so i suggested that he buys another used 850i and use it as a source for spare parts ...turned out it that the whole used car cost as much as NEW engine wiring harness..and JUST the wiring harness no sensors no nothing..can you even start to imagine what would a new engine cost ?

thats only the fraction of the reason ,,,,the main reason they are cheap is the insane operating cost and failure rate it had
@B__L11 жыл бұрын
They are cheap now because of how big the engine is.

What a useless engine haha. 225kw and 450nm from a 5L, 12Cyl engine? The 4.0L V8 in the e92 puts out like 400kw and IDK how many nm's. Dat technology

E34Benzin the s70 IS weak. 300hp from a v12 is sad, but granted they weren't aiming for high hp figures (atleast i hope not)

Im pretty sure the 4.4 or 4.0 v8 was faster haha

No problem at all! I have exactly the same VHS in German too, which I will have uploaded sometime. There is also a cassette tape, also in German, which I'll have converted to MP3. Both were part of an internal BMW dealer training package ready for the launch of the 850i.
@timring112 жыл бұрын
No problem at all Kontroller100, I'm glad to have found this VHS tape! I couldn't agree with you more loewe7, I intend to keep my 1989 850i for life! @ajazarovits, there are a couple of others on the same VHS tape, one for the E30 3 Series and one for the E28 M5. However, both of these are not dealership training videos produced by BMW Germany, they are just motoring journalist videos (I think Quentin Wilson is in one of them), but these are probably on KZbin somewhere already!
