BMW E46 FLOODED REAR LIGHT FIX

Hello and welcome to the SPOOLIN UP channel!
After a few weeks of rain I discovered that one of my rear lights was full of water and condensation. In this video I demonstrate how I decided to fix this issue.
I started off by removing the light, then I found where the water was getting into the light unit. I was able to seal the gap between the light lens and the light unit with clear silicone. For good measure I also replaced the gasket that seals the gap between the light and the car itself.
This is a simple and easy fix, alternatively you could heat up the light lens to melt the glue, refurbish the lens and light unit, then re-assemble with fresh plastic bond sealant.

I'm doing the exact same on my E46 right now, its currently drying on the radiator, but I've found nowhere the water was leaking out from so I had to make a tiny hole with a hot pin up in the corner of the indicator section to let it drain out. I'm planning to silicone seal all around the light unit to be safe, I didn't have as much water as you so maybe not as big of a gap. Anyway this was a really well put together and informative video with clear and concise instructions. Thanks

Dean, im glad there is someone else out there feeling my pain. Do me a favour and make sure you cover your car or at least block off where the light goes until you put it back on because I did a bad job and I had water in the boot tray. How was the gasket between the light and the car? Not sure if this would let water into the light or just into the boot maybe? Sounds like you have it all sewn up anyway. Same thing going on here with my 325ci. Just needs a couple of goldfish and it's an aquarium. It failed the MOT and they said the entire unit was defective. I got home and its working. But definitely water inside. Going to sort this first and hopefully there arent issues with the wiring. Great clear tutorial TY boss.

I couldn't believe it when I saw water in mine, hahaha yeah the goldfish would have been a nice touch. Yes, as long as it works once the water is drained and you find where it's been compromised it can be fixed with just a thin but of silicone if it's separated like mine was. Apologies for the late reply. The light is still waterless and has no issues. Did you repair yours?

@@SPOOLINUP Got it done yesterday. Managed to pry the cover off, dry it out over night and then clean the inside. Used epoxy to glue cover back on and then sealed the edges with sealant. Polished the outside and applied new gasket. Only time will tell but looks good as new! Helpful video 👍🏼

Same thing with my tail light, but the water killed most of my LEDs. Don't know if it's fixable

One of my LEDs is semi dead and its never recovered. There is no proper fix unless you take the unit apart, which is a hell of a job.

Yes for sure, even my fogs have condensation on the front and its just one of those things. I wish every car could be like Kim because she never had that problem 🤣

@*SPOOLIN UP* i put a k&n panel filter on the jag, no real noise but throttle response was marginally improved ( or seemed to be, could be my imagination 😉)
