So you don't need to take the hinge with the strong spring apart, correct? You just unbolt stuff from both sides

That is exactly right. I was so happy when i figured it out, that spring is very fiddly!

I have just done the same job on my mirror with new motor and cogs/ The mirror is now very slow to fold in and out also how do you line the mirror out so that it fold and unfolds to the correct position cause mine is well out of line !

ok if it's slow perhaps you didn;t line up the motor with the rest of the cogs 100% so it's struggling. Did it require a lot of pressure to screw eevrything back together? Did you only replace the motor or did you replace the inner cogs as well? Finally did you clean degreas and apply new grease before reassembly? And of course alligning the mirror was a bit of trial and error for me, i'm sure there is a trick to it but I haven't found it yet i'm afraid. I lined up the components sstarting with placing the mirror baseplate on the table as if it was on the car and assembled everything next to it pointing the way whey should be on the car with the mirror fully opened then used a PC power supply to fold and unfold the mirror. It took 2 attempts if I remember correctly.

Super video Vasileios;1 question please,some prick kicked my mirror,so still works,goes down perfectly,but when it goes up on the top it gets tilted and goes up and down a millimetre 6 or 7 times till stops...do you know what i need to change?

Thank you Mariano, well sounds like when they kicked it they wore out the gears towards one direction probably on the motor so they grab on and work on the way down but they skip because they are bent on the way up. Open it up, see what's messed up and replace the part.

.... Where did you get the gears and motor? Having read up a bit, it seems like these are unique to the M3 and M5 😕

Hi Ramsey, no, from my experience they are the same. I search on ebay "e46 folding mirror motor" and the one I have is not M specific. I have also since studied the motor of a non M folding mirror at my local scrapyard and the mechanism is exactly the same it's just the shape of the base and supporting structure that changed and of course the mirror body itself. The motor and cogs are the same.

Ebay, if you search for "e46 folding mirror motor" a few of them come up. I suggest you get one that includes all the cogs as well because your existing ones will be worn out and it's better to have them all new in there.

Vasileios Adamos Thanks man. I did check them out on Ebay, but after doing some research on the forums, I read that a lot of people said that regular E46 (non m) motors and gears don’t work on our cars. Thank you for confirming that they do work. Regards.

@@vadamos ey Vasileios it would be awesome if you can share with us the wire diagram of that Relay. How are the wires connected to it and then from the relay to the DC motor. Im planing on convert a manual folding mirrors into power folding. So if you can help me i would appreciatte it a lot

Ωραίο βίντεο στο κούμπωμα με το καινούριο μοτεράκι λειτουργεί κανονικά?? Γιατί το έκανα και εγώ άλλαξα μοτεράκι όταν το συνδέσαμε δούλευε κομπλε μολις κλείσαμε τον καθρέφτη τον βάλαμε επάνω δεν δούλευε παλι!!

Ευχαριστώ, ναι δουλεύει μια χαρά. Πολύμετρο στο χέρι και έλεγχος συνεχότητας των καλωδίων προτρίνω. Ίσως κάποιο να χει σπάσει, συνήθως το παθαίνουν εκεί που περιστρέφεται ο καθρέφτης.

Φιλαράκι πολύμετρο στα καλώδια να δεις ότι δεν είναι κομμένο κάποιο. Αν και οι δύο σταμάτησαν να διπλώνουν ταυτόχρονα δεν είναι τα μοτέρ είναι τα καλώδια που φεύγουν απ το ρυθμιστικό στην πόρτα ή ο εγκέφαλος των καθρεφτών.

@@ForFun751 ε ναι τότε χρειάζεσαι μοτεράκια έχουν φαγωθεί τα γρανάζια και δεν κάνουν επαφή. Ebay για τα μοτέρ και άνοιγμα βήμα βήμα με προσοχή, καθάρισμα τα πάντα αλλαγή μοτέρ και φρέσκο γράσο.
